I bought a small device, shaped the size of a 22 lr cartridge that you place in the chamber and it shoots a very bright red lazer down the barrel. Less than $40 from Victoria and only took 10 days to get here !
I just adjusted the sights, both red and green dots, scopes and iron sights, on 5 rifles, cleaned and lubed them all in about 1 hour.
Didn't need to shoot any ammo, in fact I did it all inside the shed, shining the lazer bore sight onto a far wall at 30 meters. Its a casing shaped like a 22 lr cartridge, that u put in the breech and turn on. It shines a very bright red lazer down the barrel and u simply line the scope cross hairs up using the micrometer adjustment onto the red dot. That's it.
Styles are available for most common calibers, 223, 303 etc, and all around the same price.
I opted for the one with external battery's, (2 off AAA),but there is a model with an internal tiny (expensive and very short life) mercury cell for around the same price.
Next step is to put a few rounds downrange and see how good it really was, but I'm impressed so far.
I'm a prepper he's a prepper, wouldn't you like to be a prepper too ?

I'm interested in the field test results when you do one.
A rifle that shoots a very tight group doesn't necessarily do it in a straight line like a laser. The bullet paths have curvature between exiting the barrel and arriving at the target. Kinda like a lawn bowl. But less extreme.

That will probably be the weekend.
The scope is not for ultimate setup, its to get things lined up and then do the final lining up at the range you are going to shoot at, to allow for drop etc.
Its only a tool to get you onto the target, to get to the bullseye will need real noise.

Never used a laser bore sight, but I imagine with ammo running at $2 or $3 or even $10 per round, that it would pay for itself fairly quickly.
My understanding is they are just to get you on paper quickly, then you zero more precisely the traditional way. Which is just your starting point. A chronograph and a ballistics calculator, or a lot of testing at various distance is what follows if you want to consistently hit your target.

They "get you on paper quickly" Precisely! mine does just that but most of the time you are still 5 to 10 rounds away from being fully dialed in!

For some reason this thread is provoking fond memories of the Camp Carnage mad minute. A Camp Carnage Mad Minute was an awesome demonstration of street legal firepower using bolt, lever and pump action rifles for some serious pest destruction! I still stand in awe of the very skilled shooters who demonstrated their considerable ability including the Doctors, Lawyers, War Veterans, Security Officers, Company Directors, ADF Personnel both serving and retired and also not to forget the trophy class hunters and champion target shooters! The undercover cops and assorted Fed Spooks were a serious disappointment though, like they couldn't shoot for shit the wankers!

That's right, instead of using dozens of rounds and the time involved, its a few minutes to get things roughly lined up, then out to the range for a final tune up of sights, red/green dots etc, without wasting much ammo.
No matter what type of bore scope u use, you will still need to make some noise to get things dialed in 'spot on'.
Bring a gun. Even better, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.

Field report re bore lazer.
Was about 1 inch too high at 30 meters, the limit of my eyesight ! Readjusted the scope and green dot, tried again. It took about 5 shots to get it dialed in, and another few ! to get it spot on (read fun).
It certainly saved ammo when adjusting several weapons.
Interestingly, the fit in the bore is quite snug, but if you push it right down, it gets nice and tight, but is a bit harder to remove.
The design is such that you could even push the bolt home if needed.
You cannot save the planet but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

Further comments after field use, going after some pesky rabbits that are making a mess of the gardens.
Aimed for the head with the green dot, at 12 meters. Hit the top of the shoulder, in line but a little low. That's good enough for me and my poor eyes ! The high power led spotlight does exactly what it says, so bright it stunned the game.
So easy finding things with the IR vision. The two farm cats stood out, as did he sheep/lambs and ducks. The rabbits were easy to spot, behind the farm cats. Resolution is good, field of view is a bit restricted, but adequate for small game, like looking through a hole the size of a 20 cent piece in front of your eye.
More of the same tonight, then its the turn of the rats, but with the air rifle, the .22 is a bit too powerful and I'm not into cleaning up a mess of splattered rat in a chook pens !
When disaster strikes, the time to prepare has gone.
