Obviously, there will be massive job cuts and forced to go only self-checkouts. They have already removed the bakers and butchers from their stores and with usually only 1 or 2 checkouts open funnelling everybody else into the self-checkout aisle, there is only a handful of people restocking the shelves anymore as well.

My first real job was with Coles, sad to see them going in this direction, but, it will all collapse around their ears, just as self driving cars are running into things and so on, the technology will eventually fall over. Unfortunately by the time that happens, its all over.

Just another nail in the coffin of "Not going to use those stores anymore". I'm not going to sit here and say I'll never buy anything from those stores again (lets be real, there's limited options otherwise) but if I worked at a store I'd be seriously considering finding other employment. The micromanagement that comes along with something like that seems horrid. I feel sorry for the folks that don't really have a choice but to stay there.

we avoid coles and woolies to maximum extent. Do most of our shopping through drakes/foodland and sometimes Aldi. We're progressing our food self sufficiency to the point where by the end of the year we'll just be buying dairy products, oil, pasta and rice. Fruit, veg, eggs, dry pulses, red meat and chicken we'll have covered.

Stocking up on dog and cat foods, as well as dry pellets for rabbits and guinea pigs. Chook and cow/horse/sheep feeds are a bit different, but in a collapse, they can probably survive on their own given enough land.
Started shopping locally, prices are a bit higher than town, but doesn't involve a 150km round trip and the resulting petrol use. We still shop when we have to go to town, usually Aldies.
