Parts ordering and P.O.S system, our life line here in store has crashed.
Our in store Commonwealth Eftpos machines are down. Called the Combank help desk and reply was "Due to unforseen circumstances, the bank is currently closed. Try back later"
Mobile phone just went flat.
Internet is the only thing we currently have
Random....i hope so.
Ive never felt as unprepared as i currently do.

Aaaaaah, modern technology!!!! Making our work days more efficient and making our lives so much easier.
I guess it shows that no matter how hard we try, most of us are reliant on modern technology for our daily lives!
Ever seen the series "Revolution"? A world without power - how would we make it!

The problem is Aus, that could be one of the way's how the SHTF will start! So I say to myself regularly, have I got enough preps???
And as Jay said, we are so reliant on modern tec, if something happens even for a short time people panic!!!

Phone: I carry a back up battery with me, cost me $5. Store POS: Write out receipts. A pain, but keeps you trading and I'm old enough to remember people doing that once upon a time. Banks: Mostly I hate them

the show revolution was great till the ending .. wish they did it like Walking Dead... never ending unfortunate chain of events rather than that bunker of oh so predictable...

Well don't give it away - we are up to season 2 episode 19 - just downloaded TWD season 1.
I did think it was funny that they all had nice clean teeth, shiny hair, and nice ironed clothes.
But, it did give a lot to think about how one would handle all the power going out.

And as Jay said, we are so reliant on modern tec, if something happens even for a short time people panic!!! Gaz thats a great point - at what point does something like this go from being a short term nuisance to a real SHTF situation - and at what point do you decide to act. Thinking out loud and with my work situation in mind what would you do in the follow situation? 10am on a Wednesday morning, sitting in front of the computer going through KPI reports when suddenly the screen goes blank and the lights go out. Everyone is happy to have a break from work and mills around chatting and wondering when the power will come back on, but looking out the office window you notice that cars are backed up as the traffic lights are out of order too, and people in the nearby offices and shops are all standing around outside, obviously the power is not just out in your office. A quick call to the wife's mobile phone and all you get is her voice mail - that would be right, she has probably left it on the counter at home when she went to work this morning. With the power still out in the office, and it starting to get stuffy with the AC off, you head down the stairs and out to the underground car park which which is banked up at the exit as the gate is out of power, and no one knows how to raise the boom manually. Now what? At what point of all this do you grab your backpack and head home? Do you stay at work for an hour, two, all day? Do you wait for your boss to tell you to go home early, or wait for the power to come back on? What about your kids at school - are they without power too? What will your wife do, will she pick the kids up or just head home, do you need to pick the kids up or meet them at home? Just as the panic sets in and you realise that you should have had a plan for something like this, the exit sign by the gate flickers on followed by the rest of the lights - the black out is over - phew that was lucky, this time anyway!

For some reason here in Narrabri this year we have been having these little blackouts, 4 so far! One morning I woke up and all the power was out everything but one power point (really strange). We checked the fuse boxes and as hubby was doing so an electrical worker was outside our house and had done something to turn it back on. Hubby thanked him for whatever he had done and asked what had happened all he said was they don't know what caused it (freaky!) This is happening a lot and each time it does thoughts rush through my head am I really prepared for this. The answer is always no Im not, even though im better off than some. If the cars are still rolling along then I don't panic too much!
Are the landlines still working? Is traffic stopped because lights are out or because of EMP? How far are you from home, as you may be able to hang around for a while! So many questions!

Jason, for me as a prepared (Prepper..LOL) person, I look at every situation as major! I think if I saw that cars where stopped but going and that the mobile even if it was message bank that it was not a solar flare or EMP! I would probably wait for a while! Ring power company???ETC... Then decide weather to stay or go!
There are some scenario's that will not be as out standing as some! like an EMP compared to an economical collapse! But either way there will be tell tale signs that we need to learn for any scenario! That's our responsibility as a prepared person!
Practicing what we may do for different scenario's is like an athlete preparing for a event or a sailor prepping his boat for a round the world race! We all need to invest time, have a number of plans and resources to cope with any event!
If it happens and we are only partly prepared we are still better off than most with no Idea!!!!
