How many people here can walk and run in bare feet?
Until I was maybe 17 or 18 didn't need footwear, I could walk anywhere in bare feet (heck I didn't even own any shoes until I went to school). I can no longer do that and I consider it to be a weakness that should be addressed.
Of course I plan to stockpile shoes and boots but if you lose the lot or have what you are wearing stolen what then, you are buggered.

This is a good topic. I could also run flat out on rocky terrain, gravel, and could walk in the bush scrub. Years of living in town now has almost lost my ability to do so. I was once running after the cat on my parents property, and ran straight into a patch of 3 corner jacks. Owww...but not as oww as it would have been for someone not used to being bare feet lol

I don't think you need much imagination to decide that people will rob you or worse to get a pair of good boots, you will be more inclined to fight if you are buggered without them and that could go wrong. Conversely you may be inclined to do the same to someone else but it could all go pair shaped with you winding up on the wrong end of the argument. Or maybe you take them off to wash or sleep and they get nicked. Either way it's better if you can get by without them. They are always going to hurt

The same could be said about clothing. Running from zombies barefoot and naked wouldn't be fun. My best friend is a naturist (nudist) and I've tee'd it up to go for a nude bushwalk with him and some of his nudist friends the next time I go visit. If SHTF and I'm out there in the bush with no shoes or clothes, at least I would have experienced it first and will know what to expect (sorry for the horrible visions peeps lol)

I've always had a in the back of my mind that around home invasions, house fires etc. I would be defending my house or evacuating in my birthday suit because I sleep nekkid It never occurred to me that it might end up being an emergency bug out as well. I remember hiking for a few days in school for an orienteering thing and my shirt rode up so my pack was rubbing against my bare skin. It got all raw and was SO painful to carry for the next couple of days.

I also normally sleep in the all together, but it depends on where I am sleeping. As we have been living on the road since 2001 there have been times when I did not feel as secure as I would like and I've worn more clothes in case I had to be up and out quickly. One night (back in 1972) I even slept fully clothed (boots and all) with a knife under my pillow, but that's another story

I do not see it as something to even consider trying to achieve. I have plenty of items that I could make some rough as guts moccasins out of but for now I have a good selection of footwear to suit most occasions and this is a prime example of why you should not keep all your eggs in one basket if you're worried about house fires, robberies etc.
Not even Cave Dwelling Tally Rat mountain men go bare foot.
