Thanks for that Peter, a few things I wouldn't need (I'm not likely to fish for sharks for example but pretty comprehensive kit. BTW, where can I get a lock-picking kit?

Awesome vid's Pete, Thanks for posting them! Thanks for that Peter, a few things I wouldn't need (I'm not likely to fish for sharks for example but pretty comprehensive kit. BTW, where can I get a lock-picking kit? graynomad i got mine from gadgets direct, have bought 3 kits now with never a problem. I dont keep mine in a BOB, more so just in my general preps. I do however have a few loose pick's in my bag. www.gadgetsdirect.com.au/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=160

Have you considered the simple joys of a small bolt cutter or a titanium crow bar?
Kinda useful in so many ways...

The pick kits as I posted above work great and are cheap.
I suggest purchasing a few of the smaller picks separately as I broke a few learning how to use them lol

A very good point but there are some locked things that you can't be subtle with. But if you crop a padlock off you could carry a spare padlock "just in case" but that seems OTT for a bug out bag unless it's a planned event.

Don't ask me to explain, I've got no idea why. Maybe they just feel too 'James Bondish'

I purchased mine, taught myself how to use them, then put them in a box incase a "what if" situation ever arose.

Google "Bogota picks" I have a set of these in my wallet. Its only two picks so they're very low profile. They do the job of a multitude of picks. I also collect assorted electrical cabinet keys and have an all in one car window punch and seatbelt cutter which fits on my keyring. Called a RESQ TOOL i think?. A large (Magic key) Bolt cutters!!!!! sit in my car for that unexpected inconvenience.

Forgot to mention an assortment of different size galvanised U shackles. Sometimes its best not to cut a lock. Especially if you need to re enter a premises in a "zombie apocalypse scenario" If the lock is holding a chain, say round a fence. It's better to pull the chain around to the front, cut a link off the chain. Attach the U shackle and spin it back to the rear. The lock has not been touched and you can come and go as you please.

I filed down some assorted keys from different manufacturers, Lockwood etc to use on the matching lock and got my locks stuck. I filed them all down to the number 9 position to get that snooker ball effect but no luck. Maybe using blank keys is what makes the difference?

a good and heavy padlock is good in a BOB. Especially if you plan on going places. Doesn't hurt to have a chain too so you can lock gates.
With the Chain and pack lock, you don't need a hand to hand weapon. You _have_ a hand to hand weapon.
