China have been ramming swedish ships for YEARS, dominating that whole coastline. The swedish just cover it up saying 'we don't know who sunk it' (pay no attention to the Chinese flags on the boats) It's only now that there is anti-Chinese sentiment that this sort of thing is being leaked. China is just pushing more and more to test their boundaries. No Asian country in the region can do anything to stop them militarily so China can pretty much do whatever they like.

Yeah, be interesting to see if Vietnam "suddenly" comes into the US alliance, getting billions of US$$ in aid, and military assistance. Be interesting to see what the nation of Vietnam does, and, if as you say Jacko, why is it now suddenly making the news??

imho. Australia is the only country/continent on this planet that can ask everyone else to FO and ignore what happening around if SHTF .... just my 2 cents True, but, our economy is strongly tied in with SE Asia, some of our biggest trading partners are China, Korea, Taiwan & Japan. We are reliant on imported oil, and have very few refineries left. If the SHTF, we will be severely impacted. Our closer ties militarily are causing a negative responce from China, and even the Indonesians are getting fidgety. For whatever reason, which is beyonf me, our armed forces are trying to emulate the US style of military. We may be far away and isolated, but we have fertile land, lots of space, and water, and fairly good infrastructure. Our resources are desired the world around, and if some reports are true, in central Australia, they have discovered an oil reserve that they say may be bigger than that of Saudi Arabia. I think we need to closely watch what is happening with China!!!

but seriously, the consumerism culture is not sustainable. Just look at the cars manufactured outside of Australia. Stacked up and parked and left to rot because factories cannot afford to be closed.
When SHTF, you will not need as much oil as now. Australia can survive without the rest of the world. But only when SHTF. Not before.

From China to Australia surviving..
Australia and SHTF, well we have a few weeks at best of fuel, it's our life blood of our 'Just in time' economy, so we quickly loose transport, food production and everything else in short succession. The power will be out if people can't get to work too, maybe a day or two without fuel. So half a day of Christmas/Good Friday break buying at the supermarket [Ever seen when they're closed just for one day!] and then crazy crazy behaviour. In the longer term with our infrastructure built on large distances between growing and distribution, we're pretty much all screwed unless people swarm to the country to work farms and somehow not starve and bring tents.

Every long weekend you'd think people will never see food again. I was talking to a shop owner in Gin Gin a while back, they said during the "Bundaberg" floods last year the town was cut off and they had to restrict sales of items like milk, people wanted to buy 10 cartons etc. And in Gin Gin this was a minor event, just a cut road for a few days. God help us if things get worse. I don't plan to go anywhere as I hope to be largely self-sufficient in a couple of years, but if that doesn't pan out I have a motorhome and soon will have a camper both diesel and with fuel for 2000k (plus extra in a trailer) so if I have to bug out to a farm to work for my supper at least I'll be very comfortable Ain't that the truth.
