Thanks guys. Yeah I think the place is going OK, a bit rough and ready but that's how I like it. Nearly finished now and I'm looking forward to doing "hobby jobs" instead Good, because I've got a few 'hobby jobs' for you at Ft Frostbite. I'll pay you in beer, ammo, good times and petrol money Sounds good, I'm on my way

Update on progress. I start the workshop awning. Awning finished, this will give me extra sheltered area to work. More roofing, this time the "pallet compound" area. This will eventually be a propagating space for plants and also a space for the jointer/planer and the wood lathe, seperate from the main workshop because of the amount of crap these tools produce. Chris liked the awning so much she wanted it extended to make a carport for her car. Carport finished. Now I start cutting steel for the camp kitchen cladding. The awning serves its purpose, it's raining but I can still work on the car in a sheltered area. Start of the camp kitchen cladding. Camp kitchen finished. It's all lookin' good in a sort of colonial-rustic-chic way I think.

Nice rig Milspec, I used to be into astronomy and have often thought of buying something myself, but it's a very cold hobby and I already have more that enough interests.

The US and other reserve banks pay interest on borrowed money/bonds. But pay interest to who? Who did they borrow from?

...The Gov pretends to borrow from a reserve bank that can create currency at will. So do you think the reserve bank cares if they ever get paid back?... I think I've just had an epiphany People say that the whole world is in debt and I thought maybe to China but I think they are 40 Trillion in debt as well. So the common response is "Who to? Mars!" Am I correct in saying that the "debt" that we talk of is just this borrowing from the reserve banks? If so who gives a toss?

Love your work GN, inspiring as always. If the media picked you up as the prepper role model, prepping would take on a whole new level of respect. That's a pretty decent I beam ... going to be a heavy duty press by the looks of it. I'll keep an eye on your forge skills, my GF would be up for a Viking sword when you're ready, she's a shield maiden at heart I'm a LOOOONG way from making a Viking sword, how about a fire poker I am getting better at working with large steel though, for example

Some updates. A bit more roofing over the workshop container. The terrestrial TV reception is crap here so I finally got around to setting up our old sat TV dish. Laying out the the brackets for 5 new solar panels to hang off a container roof. Brackets made. All done, the new panels are the 5 on the right of this pic. Another 8 panels laid out on the ground, these will be made into a tracking array I think. Blower hooked up to the forge, I'm nearly ready to do some blacksmithing. New bench made for the new 3 in 1 press/brake/roller. I make a start on the hydraulic press. One of the locals looks on.

I agree, pretty down to earth and balanced I thought with only Wilkinson taking the attitude we usually expect.
I have to say that I've been watching this show for a few months now and more often than not (by a huge margin) Waleed Ali makes sensible comments about issues and says stuff that I agree with, I'm not sure he's really as portrayed by most prepper/right-wing forums and groups.

Fresnel lenses also make interesting heat rays! I pulled one from a TV a few months ago. The plan is to make a solar oven with it.

The earliest long distance comms was in fact the marine lighthouse ... Lighthouses project a beam of light using a Fresnel lens, I use a Fresnel lens to project my camera flash further, so maybe it's possible to get one that will focus say a torch beam so it's more directional...OTOH maybe just use a laser.

@spinifex, spot on! Videos like that do a good job of showing that some people just choose a different path in life and their reasons are completely valid. I remember reading many years ago that you should "re invent" yourself a few times in your life, and by that they meant new career, lifestyle etc. The concept must have stuck because this is my 4th "life", #1 photographer, #2 electronics engineer, #3 nomad, #4 homesteader. Will there be a #5? Maybe, but for now I'm happy consolidating my spread here in the bush....actually, I'm in the process of building a nice little metal fabrication workshop, well I have the workshop, I'm now acquiring the appropriate tools. Maybe #5 will be having a metal fab business
