As one of the steps towards building myself a wood gasifier I have decided to make myself a 500mm wide sheet metal roller/bender. There are some pretty neat and simple builds on YouTube. My design is being influenced by what scrap metal I had lying around. I've never used a sheet metal roller and my question to anyone with experience with these machines is: what governs the desired spacing between the two lower rollers ? I will be bending 2-3mm sheet and flat bar up to 5mm. I may also machine some grooves into the rollers to accommodate rolling tube. This is a bit of a niche question so I won't be surprised if there isn't much feedback. Picked up a pair of old 45kg lpg bottles for $80 today. That means the gasifier project is underway. Look forward to seeing updates on your progress

Apologies Joey just found the space blanket whilst unpacking some more boxes from our move back to WA seems to be a bit thicker and more durable than the normal emergency blankets will give it a proper test and more thorough review when we get a cold night.

Carried a Leatherman for many years, wore out 2 or three, mainly where the pivots are. Now carry a pocket knife, just a cheap Bunnings one and replace it every few years, as Leathermans are not cheap. I went to the bank the other day to get my balance, and fell off the roof ! Definitely a member of the pocket knife brigade. Have several different multitools, Leatherman and Gerber( no real issues with either) but stopped carrying them on my belt years ago as constantly getting snagged moving around locos at work they now live in my work bag and glove boxes. Have a gerber dime on my car keys but only ever used the pliers a couple of time and blade for cutting straps. With my lifestyle when I need tools one of my tool boxes are usually close by. On the subject of pocket knives I inherited my Dads small "Bunny" brand when he went into the nursing home, I found this knife for Dad when I was about 6 years so it's had nearly 50 years of use and abuse, holds a nice edge and not hint of movement in the blade pivot. It's only a small 2 inch blade but does most jobs I need it to( probably skinned 1000 rabbits over the years). They're still available on ebay, but not sure if they would still be the same quality.

I did pose the question Re. Inequitable treatment and got the typical HR duck and weave" we'll endeavor to accommodate if possible, but your area needs to be vaccinated". Majority of my work is one on one training and assessing. "

There is no logical reason to force staff to be vaccinated. So why are so many employers insisting on it? Both mine and the missus' employers have done this. Had an interesting tele link-up with HR asked a few curly questions. In response to " is there alternative duties for mutli skilled employees response was there may be opportunities, then in the next sentence she says if you don't get vaccinated they will class it as unsatisfactory conduct and performance manage the individual. Suprised the unvaccinated and single dosers aren't being singled out and forced to walk around ringing a bell yelling "UNCLEAN, UNCLEAN".

Definitely agree with the dry run theory. We did a lot of self evaluation. Whilst we would have loved to stay in Tassie all our property and most of our family are in WA. When my previous employer offered me a role back in WA,99% day shift Mon - Fri, in a town where my parents and sister live(sister was a nurse in the Air Force for a while,so potentially value and things to learn there), also still own 2 properties here factor in the bonus in Oct and the salary is more than double what I was on in Tassie. They also paid for the move so it really was a no-brainer. The Mon-Fri day shift has already allowed me to complete a few of the hundreds of ideas and projects constantly spinning around in my head. Pretty happy with what we have achieved in the few weeks back in our own place.

I've fitted all vehicles, including the tractor and quad with UHF radios so we can all be in contact at all times WTSHTF. I've also carried out tests with the new ch 8 repeater and I can access it with a handheld from almost any hill between here and the coast, about 200 km away. With the Ute radio its almost continuous coverage within 200 km radius of the mountain its on. And being solar powered means that in a power outage, as happened regularly out here, it keep going. (we have a 20 kw off grid solar installations so that's not an issue for us). We also have enough handhelds for all family members and those expected to just turn up after the collapse. That said, Ham comms are the ultimate and I have several high frequency transceivers as well as backup homemade transmitters and the knowledge and parts to make more if needed. My main receiver is a ww2 Kingsly AR7, all valve, running from a ww2 genemotor, off a completely separate 12 v solar system in the radio room, and totally EMP/CME proof. The backup, backup, backup transmitter also runs from the same battery supply and genemotor for the 1,000 volts high tension it needs. This is just a hobby, perfection is not required, fun is. tropinet.com/uhf-repeaters/Is this what you're talking about?

I'd be interested in the emergency blanket if I was happy I'd likely get a couple for each car.

I hope Scotty from marketing doesn't grow two heads or have his testicles fall off! They should also have an independent citizen in attendance to check the vial is randomly selected and that it is all legit! Been saying that to the missus for months. How many of these pollies that are getting vaccinated publicly and promoting the vaccine are possibly just getting placebos. We'll never know.
