Biggest thing i noticed in that picture apart from the boys with their toys was the lack of infrastructure maintenance The road is cracked and sunken The curbside grass needs mowing The power pole looks to be unsafe and needs to be replaced The amount of road debris that's evident but that could be from recent rain so i'll let them have that one
As for the looting side of things well crap people do crap things its pretty simple its a mentality based action where i live in a small town with 160k people the crime statistics are terrible the growth industry here is security for an example these are some of this years numbers and i mean from Jan 1 to now Feb 27 120 stolen cars 123 assaults 17 unlawful entry with violence -dwelling ( home invasion )
In 1 day there were 4 car jacking while its not a statistic that is easy to get as its put under the stolen car category it is a regular enough event so everyone knows now to keep their doors locked while driving around so now they just nail you while your putting your groceries in the car hence this has a lead to an increase in people doing their shopping online and getting it delivered.
In the last month I've had an attempted theft of my hilux in broad daylight at 09:30 in the morning My cameras picked up twice now people in my yard creeping around the house checking windows and doors at night and the other night while the wife and i were watching the last of a movie when i heard the screen door being tested to see if it was unlocked so i just set off the panic button on the wife's car and they fled from the property My neighbors on both sides have had their dogs poisoned 1 survived the other didn't
To put it into perspective where i used to live those numbers would be the yearly average for the whole state not just 2 months in one town and to be truthful we are seriously thinking of selling up and moving back because these crime numbers tell me its only a matter of time before my household joins the statistics and there is no escaping the crime where i live because its across every suburb as those elements that are joyfully committing the crimes know certain people have nice things so go terrorize and rob them instead of their own communities and the police are hamstrung because its not politically favorable
So basically its got nothing to do with what states and who people vote for its as simple as this
Entitled crap people with no fear of repercussions will do crap things because they can but you have to have the critical numbers of crap people to get things like looting to start so if you have a community of people with families who work and strive to have a better life no mater of race gender or creed they tend to contribute rather then take

slightly off topic but if you live in an area prone to power outages and extreme cold then it might be worth investing in one of these bendigowoodstoves.com.au/rayburn.html +++ I like the looks of the #300 stove, but they don't give, or I couldn't find specifications and other details... Was it them or me ?? ?? No its them they didn't give any details probably because they cost an arm and a leg plus the sole of your 1st born The one i had ran 3 radiators and once it got up and running it worked very well at keeping the cold out of the rooms and didn't use as much wood as a normal fireplace the downside is the price and weight i paid just under 10k for the kit but it was worth it knowing if the power was out i could keep the place warm and snug even if there was tons of snow and ice outside If i was going to build a new home again in a cold climate i would go nuts with insulation in the building and install one of those stoves again with radiators in every room because once you get the system hot all the way through which can take many hours if your water is nearly frozen i can guaranty you wont notice its cold outside

Well today i slipped on a barker egg and nearly pulled the mower on myself so i'm going to hazard a guess i'll probably die from some random event like choke to death on air

I have for years used comercial rodent bait stations on all my properties and ill never not do it i even have 6 deployed on my block now they work well and are as safe as you will get. i remember one year there was a mouse problem and every farm around me had mice invading everything including chicken coops but i didnt because at the time i had 30 of those bait stations deployed around the property so i was getting them before they reached the farm and built up in numbers that were a problem your local rural suppl shop should have them in stock heres a link pestcontroldirect.com.au/shop/product/ratshot-rapidkill-rodenticide-blocks-2kg/Nothing like a good chemical warfare program to attrit the enemy. I want to see the ones that generate from raindrop impacts. Getting solar panels generating at night during storms would be epic. Get a system that combines wind and solar so even at night when everyone is in bed using very little power your wind turbine is still charging your system especially if you live in a wind location

My own parents taught me what was important to stock up on and luxury items were highly valued by everyone including those that had everything
The only thing i'd really like to add to the thread is the biggest problem with any form of stocking up on items is well its horses for courses.
For an example my parents lived through a country being bombed into submission then occupied by multiple hostile forces then the country being split and living under communism. During this journey of basically different stages of SHTF the needs and skills required to survive and be comfortable changed as the civil and social conditions changed but one thing remained the same unavailable or prohibited luxury items where always in high demand and could pay for people to turn a blind eye to certain things or even to see that you got benefits you were not meant to have
In the end it was gold that bought them a chance for freedom in other words a commandant agree to send a couple of guards to go for a toilet break giving them 3 minutes to cross the line while he covered for the guards naturally there some shouting and couple of wild shots in the wrong direction for show because well its all about impressions
So my point is never turn your nose up to the value of luxury items when storing items for prepping because you never know whats going to be valuable to the right people at the right time

Hey bce ... its the internet. Not worth getting angry over. The main reason the internet exists is for idiots to spread bullshit, porn and advertising. This forum is the ONLY place on the entire internet where I interact. I don't bother with social media for the same reason - too much moron-ism on display. Anyone using reddit for sourcing their medical information probably needs to learn through suffering. LMAO. I remember once pointing out to a friend how it was ironic that in this day and age of the internet we have all the greatest achievements and knowledge of mankind in the palm of our hands and what do we do with this unimaginable pool of information and inspiration? look up porn , cat videos and try to win keyboard arguments He blankly looked at me and said yeah but its funny hmm that 10 year age difference really does come through at times As for reddit meh its just another resource pool that is infected with stupidity and ignorance

I'm glad to see some robust discussion from both perspectives (and they are perspectives because we're all on the same side as far as being preppers is concerned). Strongly held perspectives discussed in a civil manner is something that is lacking in many walks of life. I think such discussion is a good thing, it gives people an opportunity to hear alternatives and challenge/reevaluate one's own perspectives. I suspect the lack of such robust discussion is why we see many of the divides in society today. Good work people. Keep on keeping it civil. The biggest problem i find is an alarming majority of people are so misinformed they can't actually hold a civil debate and the moment you highlight concerns that you have which are based on hard factual data from more than one source including sources that you may consider from the other side they instantly fall back in to the position of name calling and throwing out titles like Snowflake , latte sipper , trump supporter , some sort of phobic and the favorite one "you must be racist " Now when this happens i know the other person has no factual data that's provable so their point is purely ideology based. My point is the last 10 years this has really picked up and i prefer to not get involved in any political discussions as i feel that even if i can give people documentation proof it matters little because its all about the ideology not the functionality Truth of the matter is people need to spend more time out of the echo chamber and smell the flowers in the real world

My 1st car was a 1974 F100 running a 250 down flow motor matched to a T18 gearbox also know as a mop in a bucket. That old girl went everywhere i wanted to go yeah it had no luxury items like aircon but it was a solid old truck and i loved it. The motor use to get vapor lock at low speeds or when idling to long due to the intake manifold being directly above the exhaust manifold so that was a bit of a stupid idea but i was 17 and didn't care one little bit i upgraded to a 1984 F350 4x4 running a 460 with air conditioning after that

The US is little different than China when it comes to using social media to Identify and suppress dissidents. ................................................................................................................................................................ A Chicago real estate company has cut ties with one of its licensed agents following social media posts showing her presence at the US Capitol on Wednesday. An Allentown, Pennsylvania, teacher has been "temporarily relieved" of his teaching duties" until his school district can complete a formal investigation in his alleged involvement at the protests. A Texas attorney named Paul Davis is no longer employed at his company, Goosehead Insurance, after social media posts appeared to show him talking about his participation in Wednesday's events. edition.cnn.com/2021/01/07/us/capitol-riots-people-fired-jobs-trnd/index.htmlyou would think by now people would understand don't post incriminating stuff and at least try to to avoid having your face plastered all over social media

I've always maintained the stance if you want to play medic then go be a medic There are plenty of jobs and volunteer positions that will give you 1st hand experience dealing with stress and busted people There's nothing playful about being a medic. There's nothing heroic about it either. It's an admirable duty. It seems we live in society abundant in snowflakes who are easily startled and confused and lack a proper sense of duty. I tend to find that we live in a society of people that don't want to get involved in things that don't involve them uness there is very little risk to themselves and there is some sort of award for it.
