I will definitely get some Cipro & rehydration salts too! Try to get extra Cipro - keeps much longer than most antibiotics and is a great addition to your preps.

I've been to 6 continents - only Antarctica eludes me - and with the exception of those I've lived in for many years, the only country that has taken down my wife and I was Zambia. We were so careful with bottled water/beverages, but we made the mistake of trusting one place that said their ice was cubed from imported bottled water...was very bad...thank God for Cipro!
We always travel with Cipro and rehydration salts (especially important for kids as severe diarrhoea can kill a child within 1-2 days). Not much different from a bottle of Gatorade or Powerade, but those can't always be found.
Jay - I may have offered this before, but let me know if you want any restaurant suggestions in SE Asia...I've travelled a lot and am quite the food hound.

Fortunately, your craving for twinkies can be satisfied in most capital cities

Good point frontsight. Do I want WWIII...absolutely not. Does it feel like the world's superpowers are backing each other into corners...absolutely.
November will be an interesting time.

At this point, 6 of 9 respondents believe there will be a war. With what has been happening in the South China Sea and Russians bombing Syria, I'm increasingly worried there will be a WWIII. Who starts it isn't as important as who finishes it.

Peanut Butter w/ plastic spoon, foil pack of Premium crackers (Saltines), a Jack Link's Terriyaki Beef Steak and 1-2 Atkins Caramel Nut Bars. This lasts me most of the day when hiking or fishing.
Then again, I think of Snickers Bars as 'rations'. When I snowshoe (not here obviously) or golf I just toss enough Snickers in my bag to have one every 90 minutes.

Growing up it was always birch bark and matches. Fatwood if you could find it (stumps).

The USB battery charger is new too (PortaPow Intelligent USB Charger for AA & AAA) - looks really cool and means I don't have to worry about plugging into a wall...can plug directly into the solar panel or hand crank.

Hey Frontsight - I just picked up a small 15,000 mAh solar panel (Solar Charger - Solar Power Bank GRDE) for charging phones and rechargeable batteries via USB recharger as well as an iRonsow IS-088 Dynamo Emergency Solar Hand Crank Radio (crank/solar and doubles as a smart phone charger power bank). Literally just received them, so haven't had a chance to try them yet, but they were well reviewed on Amazon.

Thanks, Shinester. At this point I am only really interested to try canning or freeze drying my homemade spaghetti sauce (with or without meatballs). It isn't about cost - it is about having ready access to a food that takes 6-8 hours of simmering to make. May explore this further down the road.

Easier to just buy canned Plumrose Skinless Hot Dogs for $5 from your local Woolworths or Coles.

It may sound terrible, but I wish I could pay someone (or a local company) to can for me. I love cooking, but don't dare trying my hand at canning...afraid I might inadvertently kill the family
