After having to drive hiluxes and now starting to get 78 cruisers for my work car in the mines, I'm glad I never bought a Toyota myself. Nothing but issues with the hiluxes auto boxes always going into limp mode towing a 2.4t trailer up a ramp, had to get the Toyota dealership to reprogram the boxes because all 3 were cactus from new. Glad I got a navara for my own car, so much more comfier and economical over the luxes. Had a look into the Hilux gearbox, it was an issue with previous Hilux models but has has long since been fixed. The new 2. now has 150kw and 500NM vs preciously 130kw and 450NM. Electronics have been upgraded. The ride is still a bit harder - that is the cost for better off-road ability.

Breaking down in a GAZ vehicle in woop woop will be a catastrophic disaster. Also relationships between Russia and the west are very strained, there are ongoing sanctions etc.. Getting spare parts could be very problematic. Things like non standard tires has caused me grief in the past. Ok this thread has now been officially hijacked. Perhaps it is a Hilux thing- never had any issues with Hilux, up till now have only ever had manual gear boxes. Toyota does has best reputation for reliability, spares and maintenance is more easily found. www.zerohedge.com/personal-finance/visualizing-best-selling-car-america-every-year-1978Since 1997 the toys have dominate the US market baring a Honda in 2001

I’ve been in the izuzu and iveco in the bush doing real work. The iveco is superior with front, rear and centre diff locks, 37’s, super low range with splitter gears and a hefty load capacity. It’s much more comfortable, easier to drive and just better at everything. The NSP can carry more. I don't by new either, the hilux is a company car with a fuel card, unlimited private use.. it is a tax thing. No issues so far. Lada had lots of problems and is not reliable. Bug out vehicle needs to be trusted. The mining industry has tried most manufacturers, and now only use Toyota. The vehicles get hammered in open pit and underground mines, no other makes of light vehicles hold up.

Had a Russian vehicle before, had heaps of problems. Never buy Russian or Chinese vehicle.
My Hnew hilux came last week, has 240v 1000w plug output which would be useful in an emergency.

High altitude nuke are very much developed and ready to go... Quickest way to take a country down. Take out the grid and internet, and comms; Then the citizens riot - no need to invade until the society of the country has completely collapsed.

Why bother. There's no pistol powder anywhere and some primers are nil in stock as well. Was at a very small firearm dealer in NSW on Saturday (rush of blood to the head and purchased a 410 shotty), The dealer said only just got powered in the last week and its has all sold out. I found it strange but watching these guys they say they are getting powder in from Australia (6:38 in vid) but due to shipping regulations not allowed to transport more than one container of powder past NZ per ship... !!! Also say that all countries and civilians are now purchasing ammo including European civilian market (9:45 in vid), that there is a worldwide shortage.. Next month will be stock up on ammo month......

Massive que for food all over country. Family members and others say there is no bread except, even in areas not directly affected by riots. Distribution systems failing, with majority of country on poverty, many going house to house begging for food. Whole neighbourhoods closed to residents only and manned by residents. Military in photos are very poorly equipped, we used to take webbing with food, water and a few spare mass, the country got no money all been stolen, security forces very badly equipped one can easily see how thins falling apart www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/its-war-zone-south-africa-deploy-25000-troops-country-brink-civil-war

South Africa looting has got out of hand, police just watch as entire shopping malls looted, warehouses destroyed, police looting themselves, police out of ammunition. Armed militia/neighborhood watch groups patrolling streets arresting looters etc.. All army reserves been called in. Highways blocked power station burning, shops closed and mass shortages...... Government has lost control... ++ ++ ++ This seems it could be the US west coast in another week or less ?? ?? Sarcasm off... Some articles have come out saying is this the USA future.. Gun violence in cities are at all time record and many are saying the authorities are loosing the big cites to gangs.

How awesome would it be if that was here. At least my family is safe but would not mind being out on the streets in the old country (South Africa) _ I have a brother and mother still there. It is not far from Mad Max type scenario. Key learning are that police can’t deal with large scale unrest. In Australia if there is a problem they get police in from other areas to make up the numbers needed. If unrest broke out in Australia in a few spots it would be uncontainable. It is 9 meals (3 days) away from anarchy. Speaking to work colleagues they only have like 2 days of food on hand. When economy goes and there is a banking holiday, won’t be long and Australia will have mass looting. Hehehe with Frostbite suffering from lack of bikini imports – there will soon be other distractions.

Armed militia/neighborhood watch groups patrolling streets arresting looters etc.. All army reserves been called in. Highways blocked power station burning, shops closed and mass shortages...... Government has lost control... some good vids in the link below. www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/south-africa-crumbling-amid-widespread-lootingUpdate (1702ET): Vigilante groups and armed community members patrol Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, the two provinces hit hard by the social unrest in South Africa. The country could become a failed state as the police and military have yet to quell the violence. Update (1455ET): Social unrest raged in South Africa for nearly a week as food, fuel, and ammo shortages materialized. Farming, manufacturing, and oil refining have gone offline in certain regions as the worst unrest in decades continues. President Cyril Ramaphosa released a statement Wednesday that deployment of the military will expand. Political leaders have requested the president to put more boots on the ground as local police forces are overwhelmed. In some areas, police have looted businesses themselves as the country descends into what could be a failed state. "President Ramaphosa welcomed proposals made by political leaders and said expanded deployment of the South African National Defence Force was being addressed," according to a statement from the president. According to the "Unrest Map" via PolicyLab, the unrest unfolds in two provinces, Gauteng and Durban. Many rioters have crushed massive supply chains and transport networks in Johannesburg and the southeastern province of KwaZulu-Natal. The Port of Durban, the fourth-largest container terminal in the Southern Hemisphere, has been impacted by the looting. Reuters reports looters have hit Durban warehouses and other news outlets say the port area has come to a standstill. "Sadly, South Africa is on its knees. Entire communities have been razed, but more significantly – at least for those trying to calculate what the future might hold – the violence has targeted vital nodes of distribution: logistics capacity in Mooi River; local food and dry good stores throughout eThekwini; large malls and warehouse facilities along the coastline and up into Pietermaritzburg," local newspaper Daily Maverick said.

I am sitting in an office of 2, each wearing a mask and then come lunch time the other guy takes mask off to eat – it is kind of pointless.
In public esp public transport wearing a mask is recommended. If one coughs the distance traveled by moisture droplets is like 5m. If wearing a mask it is something like 0.2m. also the amount of virus released is much less – so masks do reduce spread. My understanding is the virus is attached to moisture droplets that are breathed or coughed out which behave differently to smoke.
The purpose of the mask is not to prevent you from being exposed in an areas that has become contaminated, but reduces the spread by an infected person. With Covid one can be asymptomatic and still be infectious. Only sick people should wear masks – but one does not know who is infected.

The new season is a few episodes in , I'm always keen to see the shelters and food strategies put in place from the get go , as one earlier season contestant said , sitting around making furniture and jewellery instead of building and getting food will end your experience quickly. The other interesting debate is how contestants get to choose from the list of items and the hardcore friction fire folks seem to struggle being they're alone . I have been watching as always. New half dugout shelter this yea by a PhD -US/British female contestant that is looking good. Finally a boat that works - they have a tough location with lots of hunting restrictions. As with last two seasons the producers have got very strong contenders, it is the only reality TV show that I watch..

I have tried to organsie a few forum get togethers, had one in Maitland a few years back - a few people said they would be there. It ended up just two families. Preppers have too many issues with big gov = big brother, conspiracy theories..
How about a "Preparedness Expo", get speakers from SES and Rural fire services (RFS), emergency planning for fire - floods, blackout local civil unrest {that would be pushing some boundaries}, what is in an emergency evacuation bag!, emergency food storage, blackout kit, water purification etc.. - that would get a lot of mainstream interest, but would take a lot of organizing, can get vendors that sell 'prepper type goods' .
Personally just a camp out with like minded people with a few key skill set demonstrated - no media or anyone else need to be involved.
