shipping containers as a building block is quite cheep, you can build some nice houses around the 100k mark, but they are unsightly... can be a pain to work with, but easy to expand and they are used all around the world as low cost workers accommodation, and the military use them too for the same purpose
it will also be easier to expand the size of your home (need a extra bedroom no problem, no need for engineers reports about the structure, its rated at 100 mph + wind speeds, the list goes on)
but unlike brick or weatherboard it can look quite nasty and messy if you don't do any painting or improvements

you could clad the outside in hardyplank, the stuff with the grain texture actually looks good and lasts forever, over 20 years ago my parents built their home and did that, paints easily too.

I'm about to clad mine in sleepers (the fuax 8x2" treated pine "sleepers" that Bunnings et al sell), ask me in a few weeks if it was a good idea

So far, well at least it looks pretty good IMO. These two sides have been finished since the pic was taken.

Yeah it's nice and clean, no fasteners. They will probably warp and shrink but that's OK as we're going for the rustic look

The difference it made to the temp inside that container is amazing. Used to be after a couple of hours sun it was almost too hot to hold your hand on inside, now it's cool to the touch. We'll be doing the lot eventually. Got one of the doors made The main roof finished And the stove installed

I wish I could get P.P on board with a container home. All he thinks about is resale value *facepalm*

It's usually the other way around with us men trying to convince our wivies to live in a shipping container If it looks like graynomad's or some of the others that Aus posted you would think you wouldn't have a problem selling. They could still build a house and use the shipping container house as an awesome guest house ;-)

How did I end up with a guy like this? Seriously? Lol most guys I know even get over excited at the thought of their gf being on board for a container house, if only for how cheap they are! The way I see it is resale won't be an issue as I will want that as even my bol for the rest of my life anyhow!

Maybe one day you'll convince him
It would be interesting to see what he thinks about the ones Aus posted or graynomads's project. My wife has hesitant when I mentioned the idea but after showing her some designs she thought they were pretty cool
There's also shed home kits www.sheds.com.au/download-a-catalogue.html

Nah I have already tried that route, he agrees they're cool but wants resale value :/ And doesn't believe there is demand for a container home :/
