After going through my preps today, i have realised that after moving house (and town), re-establishing my business and just a general attitude of "i;ll do it later", I am now basically back to the beginning with my preps, Aside from a couple of months worth of food, some basic FAK stuff, knives, firearms and archery equipment, I pretty much have nothing sorted out.
This is not a positive thing for me (obviously) and I am going to have to pull my head in to get back on track, the only bonus for me is that I have been learning a lot more about different skills lately and am happy that my construction and what I can only think to call "engineering" skills are a lot better then they were 6 months ago.
I will be using this thread to update everyone on my progress and would love some input on both where to start, as well as peoples opinions and ideas on what I will be moving onto at each stage.
Later today I will be posting up what I am looking to have sorted by the end of August and will be doing a month by month "plan" to try and keep my spending on unnecessary crap to a minimum
Cheers Reth

Look forward to hearing how you go with the "re-prepping" As someone fairly new to the preparation world myself, it will be interesting to see your plan and what you decide is unnecessary

Is there anything you'll do differently now you have a fresh start?

Hey guys, thanks for the encouragement, i will be concentrating on taking a more structured approach this time. Allocating certain amounts of money per week and prioritising based on my previous experiences.

My advice start small, by the sounds of it you have a lot of kit floating around,
I personally have mine set up in 3 lots
1. A suitcase with bug in equipment (alt cooking, etc)
2. A area where projects are put together (atm my survival kit)
3. A area with excess stores (currently a large container with food, but you catch the drift)
I personally have been shopping so hap hazard with no real focus or direction that im almost in your same boat, so i revised exactly what kits i need
(I also have a easy reach black out kit, and a fak sitting in the kitchen)
My major point, pick 1 project, finish that project, work on the next one, just from my survival kit project i have a pile of extra stores so i chose to make the same as a xmas present for close faimly (that are also active campers)

So after having a think I have decided to conentrate on my food stores and storage for the month of August.
Here are my goals for August, a bit optimistic but I may as well hit the ground running.
- Purchase vacuum sealer and plenty of bags - start dehydrating fruits and jerky again, i need to find a local source for bulk fruit but worst case scenario i wait until i head back into Perth and grab 30-40kg then. - vacuum seal or store enough food for 2 months for my family of 5, it isnt a huge amount, but the vacuum sealer will take a chunk out of this months budget
- Purchase at least 2 of those 24 packs of water per family member (10 in total) OR keep an eye out for a cheap small water tank in the local buy and sell pages.
- I am also going to try dehydrating some eggs as I have seen this done on video and i think with the vacuum sealer + silicon bags it should hold up pretty good.
That should do me for now, I will see if i have bitten off more then I can chew but for now it seems doable, just need to pry the money from Mrs Reth before she buys more useless crap!! :-)
BTW in regards to dehydrating apples, we have found they shrink considerably. On average we fit over a dozen apples into a single sandwich bag!

Sounds like a good plan! Since buying my dehydrator I've done heaps of dehydratin but haven't managed to put any of it into food stores... We eat it so damn fast! The jerky was literally gone the same day it finished.

Well, you started out on the right foot - to have a plan..Just be careful making jerky - as with Step, mine barely hit the bags before being eaten!!!

I thought i may as well post up a pic of my current food stores. This is the pantry at my place and becuase of its size a relative position in the house it is also the best place for my food storage. I have enough food in here at most times to survive comfortably 4 weeks. 6 if rationing. The other wall has 1 chest freezer and stand up freezer along with the flour, sugar, pasta, spuds and rice. This is where all my new dehydrated food as well as the water supplies will be stored.

Nice. It might be kind of refreshing to start over.. Do things better and not feel like you're covering the same ground for no reason.
I'd recommend taking a risk-analysis approach. Look at your situation and foreseen hazards, start with the most likely threats and the most dangerous, then work you way through to the unlikely and limited impact threats.
Look at the challenge each presents and what your response to it would be, then dedicate however much time and money to each and work your way through the list of threats
