OK, so I have made a decision of sorts. I have decided to go the route of knowledge this month. I realise my FAK is woefully inadequate, but aside from the most basic first aid I sont have the knowledge to do anything else, so buying more stuff isnt going to help. I have checked out Dr Gaz's threads and chosen a few books based on his recommendations.... BUT once i got to amazon i started looking around and have now got around 20 books covering a wide reange of prepping activities.
My list is below, I will not be ordering until tomorrow night as i would love some additional discussion on books people think are worth a look.
- SAS: Survival Handbook
- Mini Farming: Self-Sufficiency on 1/4 acre
- Back to Basics: A complete guide to tradtional skills
- The Encyclodepia of Country Living
- The Survival Medicine Handbook
- Where there is no Doctor
- Basic Butchering of livestock and game
- Where there is no Dentist
- The Trapper's Bible
- Ball complete book of home preserving
- Lyman 49th Edition reloading handbook
- The ABCs of reloading: The Definitive Guide for Novice to Expert
- Reloading for Shotgunners
- Lyman Shotshell Handbook 5th Edition
- Medical dosage calculations for dummies
- IV Therapy for Dummies
- Where women have no Doctor
On top of ordering these books I will be grabbing a St Johns Off Road FAK to bulk out my basic supplies for now and continuing my food preservation.
Cheers Reth

That sounds like a nice variety of reading, not sure if you're anything like me... but I buy books then don't make time to read them. I hate it, so now I don't buy lots of books at once or they don't get read...
I haven't forgotten about getting you pics/info on my stuff. But 'those days' come in three's and I've had two so far so just waiting for tomorrow...
I've got tomorrow off work, so I've got my Camping FAK, my work FAK, my shooting bag FAK and my flatpack FAK in a pile in my preps store room. Tomorrow I'll get the vehicle FAK outta my hilux and take pics of all of them.
I need to go through them all and restock for expiries and damaged packaging etc anyway, so it's a good time to take pics for you while I'm at it.

Where There Is No Doctor (and its ilk) can be had as free PDF downloads. The SAS Survival Handbook is available as an iphone/ipad app (and I assume Android as well). Just FYI.

I totally agree, and of course there's always the 'what if' factor when your ipad's not working because you can't recharge the sucker. But thought I would put it our there for folks.

Hey guys, I havent touched this thread for a while but thought I would give an update. I have just made a decent purchase on Ebay and gotten the following 2x Baofeng UV-5RK hand-held radios 2x extended aerials 2x 12v chargers for UV-5R 1x Lansky Sharpening system, i am really looking forward to tying this baby out!! 1x 10w Portable Solar Light System Kit - www.ebay.com.au/itm/231331125701I really like the idea of this little unit and with the 12v plugs for the Baofeng I can now recharge them, all my batteries from AAA to 9v as well as my spotties from this unit..... not at the same time obviously but I shouldnt need to charge them all.
