You've all probably figured out by now that I love orchestral music and electronica. This is what orchestras around the world need to be doing to attract new audiences. Man would I have loved to have been there for this...

Well Pete ... if it's orchestras you like ... try this.

This one of my favorites ... but a bit too much percussion going on at times. If they dialed that back and lifted the strings, esp bass ... it'd be spot on for my ears.
SAHunter ... can you pick all the songs in this mix?

The first one (orchestra) was clearly synthesized, but it was arranged well. The second one (concert band) was well done. But concert bands always do seem very "boomy" as we're generally more used to hearing orchestral music (the strings play a vital part in film music, etc).
I'm always interested to hear music arranged to be outside of its original context.

I live in hope that Iron Maiden do a full double album with a reputable symphony orchestra. Metallica did it in 1999 to good effect with the San Francisco symphony. I.M. has better composed music as a base to build on.

I presume every generation must think this to some degree ... but I listen to the 'popular' music now and look at the performers (and they are performers not artists) that my kids follow and think "Will anyone even remember any of these songs 20 years from now?" and I answer myself: "I doubt it." It's throw-away sound for a throwaway society. Landfill music for the landfill economy we live in.
