Seeing that Mike Oldfield track reminded me of "Tubular Bells" - basically a pop-ified attempt at minimalism. Which reminded me of some proper minimalism. I was privileged to perform "Piano Phase" by Steve Reich in the early-mid nineties.
Steve Reich discovered that he could play two tapes (as in old-school magnetic tape reels) with the same music, but by changing the speed of one tape it created an interesting effect. This piece does so several times, until the two pianos return to being synchronized. It's heavy going, so listen to the first two minutes to get the gist of it, then skip to 16:40 to hear the end.

For the record, that is not a video of me performing it. That was back in the VHS era...

The Bloodspot singer reminds me of the inaugural burping contest at Curtin University Business School in 1996 (?). I won that contest, by the way, as I sculled 4 cans of warm kola-beer immediately prior to the competition.
Enough said, really...

The first track from "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. If you only want one jazz album in your collection, this is the one.

Speaking of songs about drinking ... I love this. Audio rubbish ... but that's beside the point! I thoroughly enjoy these blokes. Make sure you get right to the very end. Knighty (singer) is such a legend!
