It's a sad fact that old school disposals stores are few and far between these days. Shops where there's rows of old military gear at semi-reasonable prices seem to have gone the way of the dodo, but would be a prepared person's paradise one would think. I'm fortunate enough to help out at one, albeit on an ad hoc basis, doing some stock ordering (mostly knives) and occasionally in store sales as well, which I'm trying to get more of. Some will have seen the army mess tins (in the Sales area of this forum) which the boss has a stack of that he can't move, and would be happy to get anything he can for within reason. It got me thinking, what else would you guys look for in a shop like that? Chances are we have some in stock and maybe I can help APF members get their hands on some otherwise hard to find gear, without having to resort to outrageous ebay prices. So, what sort of stuff would you guys be keen to find in a shop like that? I can't make promises, but happy to help if I can.

To me its the actual visiting of the shop. I used to spend hours with the young fella walking each isle and looking at every item. Sad to see it now gone and the next best thing is Aussie disposals. OK, but no genuine army issued items. All new reproductions

Nighthawk, I am interested always in genuine ration pack issue FRED's the std Issue folding knife with the spike, actually especially the knife. Mess kits as you have advertised, I'll take two at either of the prices you suggested and old aluminum canteens.

FREDs I'm pretty sure we've got heaps of. I'll have to check prices. Not sure about aluminium canteens, but plenty of the green plastic ones in a couple of different styles, with or without cups and covers.
We've got heaps of camo uniform gear, and not just Aus, but some British, US etc.

I'll have to see. They do come in occasionally, just not sure if there's one there right now.

I'll get a better pic next week. I'm working there all day on Tuesday so if people want me to look for anything I'll have plenty of time up my sleeve.
