Our strawberries aren't doing so well this year, they are just offshoots from a few years ago though so maybe they need replacing. Last night we ate our home grown broccoli, the kids and I snacked on cherry tomatoes straight off the plant this morning, and today I picked fresh herbs for the savoury muffins that I'm eating as I type The pawpaw and mango trees have green fruit on them so should get a good harvest later, the coriander has plenty of flowers so hopefully I'll have plenty of seeds soon. I've got pumpkin, watermelon, beans, capsicum yet to fruit, and plenty of herbs (unfortunately my basil hasn't done well at all which is weird because it went nutso last time). My cauliflower was a failed crop, so I'm letting it go to seed so I can collect some later - not sure if I should use the seed from a failed crop though? I'll have to research that a bit more. Another flop was the garlic - the plant died on me in the last week or so and when I went to see if there was a bulb under the dirt, the pot came up empty. What the?! It's been fun, this is the first time I've planted 'staples' like broccoli and cauliflower, unfortunately I forgot my seed potatoes when I did my last seed order so they'll go on the next one.

Just a small herb garden and a few underperforming potted citrus trees. Lemon, lime, cumquat and a lazy mandarin (that never produces fruit)

I just (re)started a veggie garden recently. Our yard is full of BIG trees and hedges. Excellent for privacy and temperature control, but it's super shady and the trees hog all the nutrients in the soil. Barely anything grows. Not even weeds. BUT I realised that the unused carport down the side of the house was the only nice sunny area we have, and I'm having a go at a veggie garden again (after having given up years ago). So far, things are growing! Plants. Growing. In my yard. I'm in shock I'm starting slow and so far I've got- - strawberries, which are disappeared by a 3 year old predator the moment they turn red - Kale, growing strong but riddled with caterpillars, I'm working on that... - globe artichokes - tomatoes For the shady areas, if anyone else is interested in what can grow, I'm having some success so far with- - Herbs- oregano and parsley do okay in my shady areas - Wild rocket - Chamomile - Nasturtiums - Wasabi!! - Celery, grow from kitchen scraps - Mushrooms- yes it's that shady - Fruiting trees- coffee, guava, brazillian cherry- these are all new and recommended for shade, but also more tropical than it is here so I'm not sure how well they will do.

I have the following growing in the vegie gardens and in the greenhouse:
Tomatoes (cherry and roma) potatoes lettuce (lots of lettuce with summer coming) capsicum (not well though) spinach spaghetti squash cucumber strawberries carrots pioneer beans
also coriander parsley lemon thyme thyme oregano chives
Have a newly planted orange tree, but given it is small, don't expect a crop this year.

I just hunted out some of the seeds I bought recently (thanks for the reminder Rem), and I've got kale, carrots and stevia going.
I also forgot to mention the lemon & orange tree that I planted in the same hole recently.

Just added another capsicum plant, plus some basil, garlic chives and spring onions in. Had to pull out 2 potato plants to make room - so got a harvest of baby potatoes. I sent them off with hubby and daughter for them to have for dinner tonight Love the idea of my child eating home grown vegies Also picked up some snowpea, tomato, English spinach and sugarloaf cabbage seeds for planting later in the year My spaghetti squash is going fabulously! I put in 3 seedlings that I grew from seed, but I might have to cull 2 to allow enough room in the vegie patch.

Just moved, but found a space for some veggies - tomatoes (cherry, roma, black russian), chillis ( LOTS of plants ), eggplant, cucumber, pumpkin, plus thai basil, mint, swedish mint, thai eggplant ( which is a small tree ), and kaffir lime.

Bought the house just shy of 12 months ago so this is the first serious go we're having at growing our own. Mrs Reyefull's got the knowledge & is in charge of it all, I just do what I'm told & try to learn while I'm doing it. So far all we've got in is sweet corn & tomatos with marygolds amongst them, more is to come though. Sweet corn on the left 2 rows, tomatos on right. All tomatos in here, the flowers are marygolds. This is just both of the beds in one pic, 6 rows, 3 in each bed. Another bed nearly ready to go. Not sure what's going in here yet, I'll have to ask the boss.

We were lucky enough to have a few citrus trees & a decent size grape vine already established when we bought the place too. 2 mandarin trees out the front. One out the back. A lemon tree that tastes horrible, think it's too old. There is a young one growing near it but it doesn't produce yet. The grape vine, it's about 10 meters long. It didn't produce last year, pretty sure it hadn't copped enough water, starting to look good this year though. Mrs Reyefull's nectarine tree she put in, affectionately known as Nec.

Plant Basil amongst the tomatoes- it is a good natural repellant for bugs that like tomatoes!

Hi All
Just finished a great crop of broccoli and cauliflower, recent plantings include tomatoes(grosse lisse, tommy toms and romano), bush beans, snake beans, capsicum, eggplant (globe and finger), radishes, mizuna (salad green) rocket, ocra, beetroot, potatoes and all the usual suspects in the herb garden. Biggest problem here is water (mid north coast NSW), could be a dry summer for us. I know everyman and his dog has tips on growing tomatoes, so here's mine- only have 12 leaves(branches) on each plant, remove from the bottom up. Better fruit.
good gardening all
