Inspiration indeed. The 3 microwaves amused me... redundancy Looking good Grey. Bit of an overkill for the occasional warm-up of frozen stuff eh? I don't even know if the two old ones on the floor still work, if not maybe they can be used as faraday cages

Very nice work Gray. Looks great. Be carefull though. You might end up giving people "Prepper Envy". Possible eh, after reading that other thread...nah, we've got no permanent water. Many people have way better setups than us, I think we're doing OK but I'd like to spend a heap more, maybe when I win the lottery.

Love it, I now realize I met you in mk1 about 10 years ago in Huonville on the water front. good to meet your acquaintance again. Have been following you for years. Hopefully we will catch up again Wow, that's a blast from the past. And another member has just PMd me, we met while I was building the truck all those years ago in Queanbeyan. You can run but you can't hide. Are you in Tassie now? Moved to Tassie two years ago. When I met you in Huonville was basically in front of the missus's family house. After 8 years in south west WA she got home sick. So packed the entire farm up and moved it to SE Tassie, not far from Richmond

I'd think the people who know about your place are all friends and neighbors to which you might just find are more help than hindrance.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm truly envious of your hand-cranked drill press. Along with everything else you've got going on.

Excellent update. I've been criticised before for running threads on my retreat, accused of lacking judgement on persec and/or boasting about my progress, but I firmly believe threads like this inspire others, so well done Grey. Frostbite I for one really enjoy the updates/progress on your place so please keep them coming.... Grey your place is awesome

Boasting about progress is great, only the envious get disheartened. The competitive work harder

I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm truly envious of your hand-cranked drill press. Along with everything else you've got going on. They are fairly common on eBay et al, the hard part is getting a local one because few people will ship them. I had to drive down to Brisbane.

The pallet "compound" is nearly finished. It was going to be a lockable enclosure but I decided that's too much work and anyway anyone with a car and a chain could rip half of the wall down if they were serious. The motorbikes will get chained to something solid but the wheelbarrow and garden trollies etc can fend for themselves. As we had many pallets left over I decided to clad the container with them as well, partly for aesthetics but mostly to provide shade to keep the interior cooler. The corner was going to be 90°, but I decided to make it beveled with 30° and 60° corners. These required gusseting to join the wall sections. The whole thing is pretty rough, but in keeping with the "rustic chic" of the house. The entire thing has been spayed with diesel, that is not a job I would wish on anyone, I had diesel dripping from my nose, all through my hair etc etc

Just put a bike cover with the Suzuki logo over those cycles. Nobody bothers stealing a suzuki. Good idea

Sea container house with pallet fences & cladding up on a hill surrounded by trees... you're building the structures of my dreams grey. Keep the photos coming.
I've seen this done painted (as below) but never kept raw like this, I prefer your way.
I cant stress enough how much I enjoy your style. Unashamedly leaving the containers as containers, pallets as pallets... your homestead makes a statement and is a work of art.

Thanks familyprepper and paranoia Wow, look at that, more pallet cladding. I like it but in my case I prefer to at least try to blend in with the surroundings, once you get maybe 50 meters from our place you can't see a thing except the one remaining unclad end of a blue container. It'll be covered soon as well.

This is just all kinds of awesome ...
GN you should have your own TV show! I'm sure plenty would watch it.
It'd put 'The Block' into the shade. (I hate that show so much)

Thanks for resurrecting this Spinifex, here are a few more pics taken over the last year or so, there may be some duplication in other threads here as I can't remember what I've posted before Wallaby in the living room Building the pallet compound The drier tub fire Wallaby in the workshop Start of the forge extension to the workshop Forge extension Welding two steel lintels together to make a post for the forge extension corner Corner post in place Lifting the lintel beam for the workshop doorway Beam in place I go off into the bush and find a nice post for my leg vise. Backfilling started and post for leg vise in place. Cutting off the excess on the leg vise post Excess cut off (I decided to use a chainsaw as the crosscut was blunt) Forge extension backfilling complete, leg vise post trimmed to correct height, half wall complete, and various tools and stumps temporarily placed. New storage shelves for lathe stuff. Making a gun safe Part of the gun room Starting the roof over the forge extension Roof detail Roof finished Partition that divides the workshop from the pallet compound One of the dunnies and the HWS for the outside shower Strapping for the cracked incinerator pipes Unleashing my inner stone mason Currently the outside shower and clothes line area, will become a camp kitchen soon The forge extension is clad with old corro, two of the workshop shutters half open View from other end of the workshop We collect water in one tank and transfer to another, this spar filter helps to clean some crap in the process Some fun in the workshop 16 new batteries Some hand tools The garden in full bloom last year Some produce from the garden The pallet compound is now a propagating area, at least that's the plan but we've not propagated a single plant yet. Truth is the garden is pretty much on hold this year, too many other projects plus I now work full time. A retro look at the forge extension Playing around with a new idea for a tracking solar array 13 new (to me) panels, I will probably use 8 of them for the tracking array, meanwhile 10 of them are connected to the new solar setup
