That's awesome Rob. The workshop is so simple but so elegant. And the fold up windows are a really nice touch for natural light and ventilation. Even lunch that hops inside ready for eating lol
I'll try and stop by to say hi one of these days that I travel past your area as well Rob

Thanks GN - I LOVE the small fireplace made out of the dryer tumbler-though I had to check twice to see if there was a photo of the wallaby in a camp oven or on the grill!!
You have done well, and given me a few ideas for my set up too!!
Please post more when you can!

Hey Grey...please don't forget to post those pics across the ditch! The folks at prepnz would love to see them (especially Tails, as he's building his little river lodge out of them)...cheers, (Admin) Pion...

This is just all kinds of awesome ... GN you should have your own TV show! I'm sure plenty would watch it. It'd put 'The Block' into the shade. (I hate that show so much) It's nearly happened a couple of times Spinifex, here's one example I can't understand how shows like 'Swamp People' etc go multi -series on mainstream TV and really interesting stuff like your work doesn't. Do you ever do 'consulting' work for folks with plenty of coin?

@spinifex, spot on! Videos like that do a good job of showing that some people just choose a different path in life and their reasons are completely valid.

Because the 'interesting stuff' doesn't appeal to the 90% of the audience that have their brains switched off.

GN should at least get on an episode of 'Grand Designs' ... Kevin Mcleod would go for it.

GN should at least get on an episode of 'Grand Designs' ... Kevin Mcleod would go for it. My truck was on an episode of "Worlds most extreme homes" a few years ago, they flew a camera crew out from the UK. Still showing on cable in the US I think as I occasionally get an email from a viewer.

I remember reading many years ago that you should "re invent" yourself a few times in your life, and by that they meant new career, lifestyle etc. The concept must have stuck because this is my 4th "life", #1 photographer, #2 electronics engineer, #3 nomad, #4 homesteader. Will there be a #5? Maybe, but for now I'm happy consolidating my spread here in the bush....actually, I'm in the process of building a nice little metal fabrication workshop, well I have the workshop, I'm now acquiring the appropriate tools. Maybe #5 will be having a metal fab business

That's a most valid point frostbite makes... WTSHTF there will be a change to the current supply & demand stats... In old-school societies (think villages), there was serious demand for trades such as the baker, the chandler, the blacksmith, and the lumberjack. Now we seem to value the barista more... When things go bad there will be serious demand for those who can repair/modify firearms - I think particularly in rural areas where the yuppies & greenies don't have so much to say. Gunsmiths will be as valuable as the blacksmiths of old, as firearms have largely replaced swords. Although a good blade definitely still has its place.

Maybe #5: bought a lathe and became every shooter's best friend I have a lathe, and there's a milling machine in my near future as well

Some updates. A bit more roofing over the workshop container. The terrestrial TV reception is crap here so I finally got around to setting up our old sat TV dish. Laying out the the brackets for 5 new solar panels to hang off a container roof. Brackets made. All done, the new panels are the 5 on the right of this pic. Another 8 panels laid out on the ground, these will be made into a tracking array I think. Blower hooked up to the forge, I'm nearly ready to do some blacksmithing. New bench made for the new 3 in 1 press/brake/roller. I make a start on the hydraulic press. One of the locals looks on.

Love your work GN, inspiring as always. If the media picked you up as the prepper role model, prepping would take on a whole new level of respect. That's a pretty decent I beam ... going to be a heavy duty press by the looks of it. I'll keep an eye on your forge skills, my GF would be up for a Viking sword when you're ready, she's a shield maiden at heart

If she's anything like Froya from the show Norsemen then I'll be very envious.
She's the Lagertha type from the other show .. she has got a wicked sense of humour though.
