Rather than investing spare cash in pm’s, which seems to be the prepper creed, I invested it in a second cabin so an extra family can bug out to my retreat if ever shtf. Now to get busy dividing it into rooms, lining it , wiring it up for 240v and installing the solar and water tank.

That's pretty fantastic frost, I see you got everything in before the trash weather settles in. How much did that set up cost you in total? I remember asking a while back but not sure if that was the same shed or not. I vaguely remember you linking a site where they listed those sheds. I'd be much obliged if you could send me that way again, I had it saved in my bookmarks but like a typical numpty I've lost the links when I upgraded my PC and was too lazy to import my settings 🤣.
I think PMs are a good place to go IF you've got everything else in place. You can't eat metal and it makes for a pretty terrible shelter too. Having your shelter and supplies fully stocked first are better IMO.

The shed is 12m x 6.5m x 2.7m high, 4 large windows and 1 glass sliding door $10500 from Best Sheds. Add slab, lots of excavating, and a builder who charges almost $3k a day (because he is the only builder in that area available in the next 2 years), and the fitout that I will do myself and I’m looking at about $40k all up.
Mrs Frostbite said shed was too big for me to build myself, so that decision cost us $11k, yet she is happy for me to help my work wife put up a 24m x 12m x 5m high shed on her property in a couple of weeks.

We layed the Lino floor before building the internal walls. Much easier this way if you want one continuous length with no joins. All the walls will be fitted with a steel stud frame, insulated with earth wool batts, then lined with gyprock. No timber to rot or warp apart from the doors, door frame and skirting. Everything I build is built to last well into shtf. That Lino was 48m2 heavy duty stuff (not cheap Bunnings rubbish), so heavy it was loaded onto my trailer with a forklift, but unloaded by myself and Mrs Frostbite, who almost burst a valve. It was rolled out by myself and 4 ladies. Girls are just as capable as boys, you just need an extra one or two for the really heavy stuff.

That looks fantastic! And for $40k total, bargain. Does the lino have a decent underlay to it? We have similar wood look lino in our house. I'd hazard a guess that ours is the Bunnings quality stuff you're talking about, it's absolute garbage and we're having it replaced with vinyl plank boards with some pretty thick underlay underneath each panel in the next couple of weeks.
We've had our first cool day today and you can really tell that you're just walking on lino straight on the cement. Sounds like the stuff you got is probably a similar thickness to the vinyl boards we're installing.

Cafe curtains? How do they handle the wind? We roll them down in the wind the protect the outdoor dining area. They handle it fine. We keep them rolled up when we aren’t there. Been looking for 3 large windows to properly enclose the area.

A very devious person swapped mugs on me. Everyone was in on the joke, even Mrs Frostbite and my son. Think I need to amend my Will.

Looking great frost! I've been spending some time investigating 'simple' things like laying pads and the like for when we have a bit more space. The search is on for a property that suits us but also has enough space to whack a similar shed on the back. We're not looking to add living space to it beyond a gym at one end (other end will be long term storage/gear storage etc) but having a gym at one end would mean we could convert it if needed. I'm making sure that whatever we build it'll be basically as vermin proof as possible, and a relatively consistent temperature inside which can be tricky to manage around here.

Vermin proof is easy if you don’t have a personal access door. We use corrugated foam infills between the slab and the corro steel, which serves as formwork for a layer of concrete. At the roof end of the sheet we use spray foam to seal the gap between the corro sheet and the flashing.
Maintaining temperature for storing food is much harder. I don’t know if that is possible in a metal shed. I always wanted to lay a slab, get a concrete culvert placed on top of the slab, then fill in the open ends with core filled besser blocks (with a heavy wooden door of course). Basically an above ground cellar that won’t have the issues with dampness that underground cellars have.

That's a pretty good idea, better for a surface-level option. Warrants a bit more investigation I think.
