I'm not particularly into primitive survival, though I really DO like this video about one man and a machete making a home for himself. His fire is even a rocket stove.

As did I, seems to be a problem with the page itself.

Looking at it, learning a little about how to make cob [dirt walls] having the right spot with clay in the soil and water nearby, with a hatchet or machete, with means and skills to make some kind of cordage, do people feel that they could do something like this? I for one do, we used to make wooden structures in scouts all of the time, though with rope. It's just something that until seeing it, I hadn't even considered as doable, yet the skills to put it together aren't too far removed from most of us.

Excellent! I was thinking the sparks might catch the roof alight but then he put the chimney in. I can hear Hubby (builder) saying, the main support beams on the roof and corners need to be bigger. Overall if push comes to shove, it's very doable.

Most vines can be intertwined to make rope right? Obviously you wouldn't use things that snap to easy but most vines will work yeah?

In terms of making actual rope, I'd be looking at the flexibility of the fibres once they've dried out. In my completely unqualified opinion, many vines will become too brittle once dry.
I do know that hemp is excellent for rope, but growing the stuff is illegal without licences AFAIK.

Just pull out our large supplies of zip ties and duck tape instead of vines lol. But I suppose if the vines dried out enough to snap and cause the structure to fall, just replace with fresh vi es as needed.

I doubt drying out would cause a w&d structure to fail. I was talking about rope in the previous post.

To true Joey and Shine. Probably wouldnt get council approval cause it wouldnt be classed as structually sound enough being made out of clay and sticks and all.lol.(3 little pigs and big bad woof comes to mind). Nice idea about the caravan Shine

Is it possible to build a cabin on a caravan chassis and get away with it as its not a fixed structure? (Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs did this as he couldn't get a permit to build on a patch of land he had)

You can build whatever you want on a remote property, just don't tell anyone and build it away from prying eyes and you won't get the visit from the building inspector
