Was just watching a youtube video of this bloke , and thought to myself this is probably what most of the general public who are unaware think of preppers ....
It was aired on SBS 2 .
Its not a good idea for him ( or any prepper ) to be saying infront of the cameras " when I get a gun licence I will probably get myself a remington 700 , it will be mainly used to shoot people ..... oh I can also make molotov cocktails and pipe bombs " ...... then there is the footage of him swinging his weapons around which at one point gets caught up in the clothesline out the back.
Infact in all seriousness I think he might be suffering from some sort of mental illness , depression maybe ? .

Seeing stuff like this is both sad and frustrating, this guy does not represent preppers, well, I certainly hope he doesn't!

An oldie but a goodie. The media love beating up any kind of fringe element, helps people feel better about themselves and they sell more revenue from advertising with more viewers. Of course we all know that it's nothing like that, having met 7 preppers in person locally and getting the hint of character on this forum especially [the other has some kooks lol] there's plenty of very sensible and together people who have spare tyres for their lives.

Yeah, they said the same about a fellow called Noah too. That worked well for them didn't it. Hey Noah, nice boat you got there, expecting rain are ya? Noah "why yes I am". crowd, "LOL oh Noah, your such a crackup". Hey Noah, nice farm you got going on there. Noah "why thankyou very much". Crowd, "hope you got a big shovel". Crowd "what's this wet stuff?".

Hmmm...dunno what to say really, except maybe this guy will be toast if he encounters someone with real skills.

I made it 2:45 into the video, where he rants something about "I'm just going to take people out if they attack me". I frankly can't stomach this sort of rubbish.
On the other hand, I'm quite happy if the general population thinks that preppers are like this guy - a camo-wearing, soldier-playing, weapons-throughout-his-shithole-of-a-messy-house, obese, priorities-seem-to-be-gasmasks-and-food, outspoken twit. When people visit my house, they won't see that crap around the place, so they won't have any reason to suspect us of preparing.
For example, outside of the police officer/s who processed my firearms application, members of this forum, and the folks at the gun store, only four people know that we have firearms - myself, Mrs Pete, and a couple whom we trust. That's it. We see no need to broadcast it around the country - wearing balaclavas or not. Although this is a reminder to myself to upgrade SSAA membership to include firearms insurance...
EDIT: a couple of post office staff will also be aware, although I doubt they give two hoots.

This clown watches too much tv, and has no life. More importantly, he has no basic understanding of what being prepared really means. Much like many on the US show, Doomsday Preppers, he is quite delusional and out of touch with reality. Remember that show and the bloke who set up explosive traps around his property??? Well, he got raided by the FBI and thrown in jail. Sounds like this bloke will get a knock on the door early hours of the day - and deservedly so!!!

Whilst the post office people might know, I also typically pay for my fees a long way away from where I live as a precaution. In terms of preps, one person [Mrs Shinester] knows I do and where I live, and whilst you guys know, there's no concern there as even if you knew where I lived and turned up with nothing, I'd hand you a spare rifle, set you up with some space to live, get get to work as you'd be more of an asset than a liability because of skills and mindsets, unlike most of the rest of the world. OPSEC is pretty important in my mind.

I thought I was the only one who did that... I also have a PO Box for anything even vaguely prep related, and have a couple of email addresses that do not give a clue as to my name. My gun safe is in a part of the house which would only be found in the event of a very thorough search - with the keys equally well hidden; even my firearm paperwork is held in a safe so no-one will chance upon it. Heck, I even make sure when I take a rifle to or from my car it's carried in such a way that it wouldn't be suspected as a firearm - even if a neighbour was looking in through the window. I am cautious about what I write on which computer (even what prep sites I visit and log onto) , where prep-related books, files, food & water stores, etc are kept (again, they're not obvious). I go to the extent of moving my laptop so that the "Ausprep" logo isn't visible to our office security cameras, so that no-one I know would suspect a thing. OPSEC is not just pretty important to my mind; it is critical - even to the point of obsession. Should things go south, I want chance to be on my side, not the other person's. This particularly applies to a number of family members who have failed miserably at earning my trust, as well as one neighbour who is possibly the nastiest piece of work I've ever met.

My safe is hidden behind a false wall with any evidence of hinges of bolt locks hidden away. I also make sure I close the garage door when I remove my rifles from the car. My safe and ammo box keys and ammo storage steel locker are all kept separately, with the most important keys (safe keys) in a spot that is so well hidden not even a rat could find them.

OPSEC is pretty important in my mind. I don't know where you are, but thanks and I would/will reciprocate, should things get to that point you guys would be welcome. And speaking of "hand you a spare rifle", I have an old TOZ17-01 22, nice gun and from my research pretty accurate although I've hardly fired it so can't really verify that. I've seen them for sale for as low as $60 but the catch is that at that price they probably don't have a magazine, and even if they do it's only 5 rounds and you can't buy any more...or so I thought. It turns out that the Mossberg 802 Plinkster mags fit just fine with a couple of small modifications (tried one the other day), and these mags are very common. So I have seriously considered buying several TOZs and using them to hand out to friends/neighbours/etc should they wind up here without any "tools". Don't spread this around though until I corner the TOZ market

I just realised that this is a totally empty promise as (I assume) nobody knows where I am, so you won't be "turning up". I guess that's why we need pre-SHTF networking in the flesh, not just on the web.

I've watched this whole entire video when me and my friend got seriously into prepping. This guy is the dumbest mutt out and he will die alone (I remember him saying he was gonna leave his mum long behind). He's overweight and unfit and I struggle to think how this ninja (he thinks he is a ninja) is going to take down any preppers with firearms. I hope SBS will leak his name to weapons licensing so that he NEVER obtains a firearm. As far as I'm concerned he is a danger to the community, they might have an earthquake like we did up on the Sunny coast and he'll start his bug out plan, and kill his neighbours for their vehicle thinking its the end of the world. This guy paints a bad picture for firearms owners let alone preppers. Not that he is an owner but he is clearly someone who wants to own one but SHOULD NEVER own one.

Not sure he would really be a threat if he had a firearm, certainly don't think he should own one but he certainly seems the type to buy a rifle bolt on a heap of cheap "tactical" stuff on it and then think he is a sniper. Not the type of person to make the commitment to become a proficient shooter.

Not the type of person to make the commitment to become a proficient shooter. Agreed. I do agree that he probably wouldn't be a threat to anyone he *tried* to shoot, because if his firearm technique resembles the way he held that sword at the start of the video, he wouldn't be able to hit the broad side of a barn at 10 yards. The problem is that he would lack the discipline to use a firearm properly. His own carelessness would probably make him a threat to himself (preferably sooner rather than later) and to others. I can picture him now - in a one-day power cut, dashing around like a fool thinking he's one of few survivors of TEOTWAWKI after the first 6 hours, with a chambered round, finger on the trigger, tripping over and sending a stray bullet (or if he had a semi-auto, even worse) into some poor sod's house.

Speaking of Youtube, are there any decent prepper-related channels to view? I can't actually access Youtube, Facebook etc now (as they're all blocked in China (where I live)), but I should be overseas in a few weeks, so can catch up. I did watch a few vids from a guy last year that were good, until I viewed a couple where he basically blew all his opsec, plus detailed the frankly ridiculous situations he is prepping for, which meant I couldn't watch the rest of his vids without thinking back to some of the crazy shit he had said.
