Caught a glimpse of some sort of survival show on the box yesterday. Stupid show, seems about a bunch of jerks which are given a million smackers between them to hike 180 odd km to a camp in 14 days or something. They were 4 days in I think, and if you drop out the others get your share of the dosh. They haven't even worked out how may km a day they need to travel to keep on schedule. Apparently they were doing less than 5 km a day. A quick calc shows they need to cover a minimum of 15 km a day to have a bit of time up their sleeve for weather etc. Stupid show, and more stupid people in it. They even get some sort of supplies, lollies and energy drinks, whilst hiking. I'm not saying that at my age I could hike 180 odd Km though a mountain in 14 days, but its doable with forethought and planning, especially for the younger people. Anyway, seeing show like that give preppers and the like bad names. Many years ago I watched two series called out of the wild that took a few weeks. Group of people dropped deep in the wilderness of Venezuela and Alaska and had to walk out. I found the series very good. If one looks around you can find a free place to watch.

This seemed to be set in the Snowy Mountains in Aus.
Do not make peace with evil, destroy it.

I am a fan of the franchise. I am disappointed in this series. the woke casting is bad. I think the heavy aboriginal casting os due to traditional hunting rights allowing them to hunt more animals.
contestants having no bow and arrow makes it not as fun, hunting can only be done by live trap and bludgeoning the animal. id be surprised if we see anything killed that way.
i dont know why nobody builds a pier to get deeper into the lake. Its like they havent even watched the series before going on. thats the key to deeper water access for fishing. that seems to be the way to win this season, sourcing fish.

That ALONE Oz version is very low rent, I gave up on it a few episodes in! Bowhunting is illegal in Tasmania but even if it was kosher the seriously Woke producers wouldn't have allowed them, it is SBS remember.

Watching alone in Canada on SBS Viceland. First episode tonight, 4 days in and nobody has left, most of them already catching food, mostly with a bow.

Alone US Season 10, the 10 items each contestant took. A few shovels this time.

I reasonably suspect the winner of Alone Australia won by cheating. And good on her for doing so. Survival is about doing what ever it takes.
There is no way she simply pounced on a wallaby while out taking a pi$$ in the dark.

Not a complete waste of time, but most contestants quiet pathetic. On another note season 10 US is about to start, contestants and items they took below. Why SBS does not give us the items they took. www.history.com/shows/alone/castOne person took salt, quiet a variety of items, last v season most took the same. The block of salt was a surprise and not something I would personally take. But it would have its uses. Food preservation, and the ability to make any terrible tasting food more tolerable. Salt is an important medical addition. Look up the symptoms of salt deficiency. In high rainfall environments away from the coast and especially when drinking rainwater caught as runoff from a tarp ... salt deficiency creeps in and menal acuity and attitude begin to decline. Salt is so abundant in modern diets that we forget its important biological function or lack thereof when deficiency sets it.

There is no way she simply pounced on a wallaby while out taking a pi$$ in the dark. I thought the same when I watched it. I remember thinking it strange she was filming herself at that precise moment, and I thought she was up to something dodgy when I heard her 'pounce' even before she announced she'd caught a wallaby. Wallaby's are rather cautious and even if one was near her camp, it would have scarpered the moment she moved near it. It's hard enough to pounce on a semi domesticated wallaby let alone a wild one. I suspected the wallaby was captured prior, likely against the rules, and she concocted the idea to film it and make out like she caught it through sheer luck so as to satisfy the rules of the contest.

Excluding the Wallaby she did get the most food in. Discovered fishing works with earthworms and even ate a few worms. Got the heart of a fern.. Had the most body weight at start of competition. Woman have a much lower metabolic rate than men, also her being older - in a pure starvation competition she would of won hands down. The win was hers wallaby or not. The producers always make the runner up look better than what they are doing to keep a bit of tension in who is going to win. A the end of the day she had no real competition...

She’s got no competition in the ugly stakes either. Enough to make even me gay.

I've just finished atching season 7 of Alone. Bloody awesome! A proper doer from Arkansas not only stabbed a musk-ox to death and ate its face for the fat content ... he stole a winters worth of dried mushrooms from a Squirrel ... and chopped more wood than he could use befoe day 100 rolled around.
two women made it into the final 3 ... one got pulled on medical grounds just 11 days before getting to the magic 100 days and a million dollar prize. I think she had it in her to get to 100 days. Robbed.
Heaps of good Bow, snare and fishing action. Makes the Australian series cast look so damn lame its not funny.

The US from abut season 6 started to get hared core contestants and put them in areas with big game. Apparently the British now have an alone series running. Not starting very well. Alone review – have any of this survival show’s contestants even been outside before?amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/aug/06/alone-review-channel-4-survival-show?fbclid=IwAR3NPKSFxgkifTp7HulrkItzcfiFkw5kTgo9wY87hXKMz4WTMaetm1QsClUOnly one episode was available for review, but so far everything is going as you would expect. One person axes himself in the leg while building a shelter and has to be airlifted home before the first afternoon is over. Another looks around the acres of trees before her and wonders how she’s going to manage when “I get lost in Tesco.” And no one – with the possible exception of builder Louie and his bottom, a naked shot of which opens the programme and is the most interesting thing we see – is camera-ready.

Expecting another woke casting train-wreck ... where "culture" trumps merit We own a very special brand of mediocrity in Australia and in no place is it better demonstrated than through the likes of our Politicians and Public Broadcasters etc.
