For me I enjoyed watching it, in particular looking over the psychology of the people in a harsh environment.

The psychology part always interests me too! Makes you think how mentally prepared are you.

Season 3 (Patagonia) is starting on 8th December. The episodes are usually available online a day or so later if one hunts around a bit.

Oh there's a second season, don't think I saw that. The 2nd season was good, was very different to the first - but they focused a lot human dramas and not so much on the survival skills & strategies they guys used. There were also 3 woman in the cast that did very well. One big loud mouth idiot tapped out after 5 hours!!! I am keen to see how things went in Patagonia. Looks like after each season the guys do better than the last...

First episode of alone was aired last Thursday. Patagonia is an interesting place - lots of things going on. No marine environment and more diversity of large animals. A number of very strong contestants that are producing some interesting things. This is the one TV show that is very genuine and no games or underhanded business. Yeah one spoiler a person tapped within a few days due to the isolation.

Having just watched ep1 of s1, I'm surprised none of them tried making the raised off the ground so it can stay alight even if the ground floods

So having finished season 1 finally. What would be your 10 items you would bring with you if you were going on this show. Providing that: fire steel, tarps, clothing, torch with batteries was already supplied?

So having finished season 1 finally. What would be your 10 items you would bring with you if you were going on this show. Providing that: fire steel, tarps, clothing, torch with batteries was already supplied? There is some confusion with the items one can take, the fire steel counts as an item. Also season 3 just finished it was in Patagonia so - I would take different items for Patagonia than Vancouver Island. They get cameras and a motion sensor camera with night vision that is very usefull List of items chosen by contestants season 1,2,3.. www.bestbugoutgear.com/alone-gear-lists-what-would-you-choose/www.aetv.com.au/alone-full-gear-list-and-prohibited-items/SHELTER12×12 ground cloth/tarp (grommets approved) 8 mm climbing rope 550 parachord – 20m 1 hatchet 1 saw 1 axe BEDDING1 multi-seasonal sleeping bag that fits within provided back-pack 1 bivi bag (gortex sleeping bag cover) 1 sleeping Pad 1 hammock COOKING

My list will be very controversial. no food rations, no fixed blade knife or fire steel, if in up north in Vancover island would take fire steel.
SHELTER 1 hatchet/machete 1 saw
BEDDING 1 multi-seasonal sleeping bag that fits within provided back-pack
COOKING 1 large (no more than 2 quart) Pot, includes lid
HUNTING 1 300 yard roll of nylon single filament fishing line and 25 assorted hooks (No lures) 1 primitive bow with 6 Arrows (must be predominately made of wood) 1 small gauge gill net (1.5 m deep x 6 m long and 2 inch [50 mm] mesh) 3.5 lb roll of trapping wire
TOOLS 1 multi-tool 1 small shovel

Excellent series, halfway through season 3 Patagonia now. Most contestants tap out due to loneliness or worry about family, even when they have the survival down pat. Two medical emergencies (that I can remember)due to sharp objects being axes. One while cutting kindling and the other tripped and fell on his unsheathed axe while walking. Some survival experts failed miserably with their techniques and starved. Major lesson was to get your head right, and always adapt or change your survival techniques if they dont work.

If there's 1 thing I would add in that list would be a set of waterproof playing cards. That would be a huge boost for all the time stuck in the shelter waiting out rain

I tried looking for the first series on DVD but it doesn't look like it is. My bandwidth isn't enough to download them. Looks good from what little I have seen on YT.

'History channel put the first 2 season up on their web page for free, you might need a US IP address. There are a number of online sites where they can be streamed from.

Discovery has a new reality TV series that is starting called the Wheel, they are allowed 2 keepsake items. I have not bothered to go find links to view the show yet. In alone a book or would be good, all you are allowed is one photograph. www.discovery.com/tv-shows/the-wheel/about-the-wheel/
