Whats the fine for chopping them down?
Factor that into the cost of the house and build where ever you want?

Very pretty spot that's for sure. Any plans to build something underground along with all the other plans? Root cellar, fire shelter, hideout?

The big problem I know with coastal land for retirement is the high break and enter rate , needs higher levels of security even when your home Dogs fenced cameras , when your not there don't leave anything behind your not willing to lose . Post SHTF staying on the coast in a high population area is a death trap . Why do you think coastal areas are bigger risk? And how far from the coast do you think is safer?

True to a degree but exposed fields of fire and to well Advertised. My BOLs are all stealthy and cost me a tank of fuel. I too post many photos of my place and in fact have had a high web profile almost since there was a web. So I guess my OPSEC is shot all to hell and back...but on the other hand I doubt any normal person could find me, maybe they could but I did have a professional skip tracer try once with no luck, admittedly he wouldn't have tried very hard as he was just doing me a favour, but I think you would need access to stuff the average person doesn't. So I'm not worried about undesirables finding me using info I post, and the non-prepper neighbours/friends/etc that do know me don't know about this side of my life (unless they are on these forums and I don't know about it )

The comment about fields of fire left me perplexed. He/she mustn't be a military person, because surely fields of fire need to be exposed to be effective. Genuine question - can you please explain this? "Fields of fire" isn't a term I've heard before. I'm guessing it's having a location with clear shots at a target?

Field of fire works both ways, but I guess the defender doesn't HAVE to cross it, an aggressor does.
We have trees right up to the house so someone could approach easily without being seen, but OTOH nobody can take a 500-yard pot shot at us either.

We have trees right up to the house so someone could approach easily without being seen, but OTOH nobody can take a 500-yard pot shot at us either. In South Africa we used to set up "field off fire" referring to the arc (between two set points) that you will be shooting or keeping watch on, then the guy next to you arc of fire will slightly overlap. So when setting up an ambush you are not all shooing in the same place - the same can apply to defence etc... I suppose different meaning to different people. The artillery in the old days would set their guns at different ranges, and when the attacking 'army' gets to the set distance mark within range of artillery then you open up the big guns into the "field of fire". Depends what methods or weapons you are using to defend or attack with some 'preppers' plant explosives at strategic locations then when the attacker gets to the location one places a round in there or detonates the charge depending on how things are set up..

The obsession some people have with extreme OPSEC has always confused me. I suspect it's a bleed over from American prepping culture where some think they're going to be in a war with the US gov or NATO.
Your homestead/BoL is not a military base, people are not trying to track down addresses of places to raid the minute rule of law goes out the window and those that would are opportunists, they're not looking for a firefight on unfamiliar land against people who own guns and have the skills to use them.
Now it makes sense to know the lay of the land and have some extra bodies around but honestly in my opinion your best defence is being remote. There are always going to be softer targets closer to the cities for those opportunists to take advantage of.
To Frost and Gray... Thank you both for sharing your properties with the forum. I'm still a long way off from a second piece of land personally but the goal is there and seeing the process you've both gone through has been great.
We could all go dig holes in the bush, tell nobody about them and act like hermits... But who wants to live like that. Please keep the updates of your beautiful properties coming!

Spent the weekend at this retreat. Forum won't let me post pic, says space has been exceeded, and I dumped my free image hosting site when they started charging a monthly fee.
But anyway, did some more work there in preparation for our 9m x 6m shed. Neighbour removed a massive stump with his excavator, about 5ft thick, from where I want to put a slab. Took 2 hours to dig it out. Same neighbour is hiring a trench digger soon to put in some water pipe, so will dig a 70m trench for my power cable. Neighbour on other side is an electrician, and has offered to put in meter box, distribution panel, cable and wire up my shed. Networking at it's best.

I'll check with the owner and see what is going on here with the pics.

Imgur image hosting seems not to be too painful and free.

Finally worked out how to post pics. Here's the shed slab, 9m x 6m, poured last week. Just waiting for shed kit to arrive. <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;">
