Hi Paranoia, π..lol Yes I do. It's only the prep for dehydrating that takes the most time. When it's in I have a lot of Time in between cycles. Trust me I have my very lazy days where all I want to do is read. And when I'm un well I don't do anything. I am ashamed to say that in the last 2 years of prepping what we had amassed added up to very little. Then with all this NK stuff. It's got me really worried. As soon as it warms up again....middle of Spring..my prepping kinda comes to a stand still. We have loads to do..and I have everyone working on it.. I'm not prepping right now, lol I'm sitting here with a cup of tea putting up a post. by the way how did you know Oh wait I know. Lol spy vision..(giggles cheekily). It's very relaxing doing posts. Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it. and remember prep with all your hear today as there might not be a tomorrow. Kind regards..ππ..cookie I'm sure you've got more than the average bear after 2 years.
Interestingly spring is my busy time! I've sorted all the winter preparations and I'm basically in planning/sorting mode until spring. I might plant a few trees over the next couple months but its fairly quiet all the produce has been eaten or stored and most of the garden is in fallow.
I'd be curious to hear more about your hydro setup, how big are we talking? What is the method of watering?
If you're getting relaxed posting you must be pretty chilled out with the 100+ posts in the 2 weeks you've been here! I've been enjoying your updates to be sure.
I'm not willing to share how I knew about the tea... that will come in time.

Nori sheets are fantastic but can get expensive buying from the supermarket... I get bags of loose dried seaweed from Chinatown and they can be mixed in with the rice or in soups. Chinatown is an amazing place to find bulk prepping goods. Dried mushrooms, beancurd, noodles, seaweed... they like their stuff in bulk too. Also a really good source for bulk tea... if you're into that

Lol. I will tell you about the hydro set up as soon as my dads out of hospital, As its his baby. It's pretty darn big though. It's at least 15 foot long. Polly pipes pumps water from a water pod on recycle. He designed it all him self. It grows amazing vegetables though...and no sand. In the lettuce leaves. I know he was begging the HYDRO mob in Perth....wink wink nudge nudge...for Their ideas and they gave him hundreds of little pots to grow the food in. The sugar peas were so sweet and the snow peas were enormous. It's packed up at the moment As we are only at our little place on weekends at the moment.
Kind regards..π..cookie Ps...it's nice to know people like my up dates. I hope I don't bore anyone with my ramblings. Lol

I look forward to it. I've built and ran quite a few hydro setups and aquaponics setups with all different methods of water/bed management, always interesting to hear the methods people use.
If I remember correctly you're out west? Don't know exactly where you are but if you're ever in Jandakot I recommend visiting 'Backyard Aquaponics'. Just to see a few different styles of system up and running. I'm over in south aus now but was in WA from 2006-2013.
If I ever get the time I'll be building an aquaponics at this property... just need to get off my ass and build my glasshouse.

A friend of ours built a glass house completely out of kerb side clean up. He got all the glass sliding doors he could. He even got them out of the quokka free section. Same as the building materials...seen as how your ex wa.. I'm pretty sure you know what the Quokka is. We don't have a glass house..we have a huge green house thingo. Lol I say thingo cause it needs weeding...seriously...... My dad was given the green house From a plantation in Carnarvon. He also has a machine that lays plastic sheeting down and buries the edges of it and punches a hole in the plastic for planting either seeds or seedlings. We have almost everything out there, lol the green house is at least 50 maybe 60 feet long and about 14 foot wide. It's covered in netting. To stop the birds.

Quokkas are those little things that live on islands that you kick or something? I forget some of the local stuff...
Greenhouse sounds great! I like them big...
I have the materials from 3 double bay glasshouses I disassembled a little over a year ago currently lying in one of my paddocks. They're 10m x 30m each but I need to replace most of the wood as they were free 'as is' on the provision I cleaned up the site after removal. Probably going to build a small 5x5 one or something until I get motivation together to build one properly. The disassembly of those glasshouses cost me a couple months back problems and many physio visits so I'm hesitant to jump back into it full on... old pane glass is HEAVY.

Thank you for the Jandakot plug. Will most certainly check it out. We go to spud shed Jandakot just about every two week. It's so cheap and it's where I get all my capsicums from.....funny thing is I'm Not a huge fan of capsicums when their fresh...but dehydrated in recipes. Not that's a whole different matter. I wish we had a spud shed here in Northam. We r getting an Aldi's it opens some time in sept/ oct. I loved shopping in Aldi's when I was in America. It was great so was wallmart. But there really is no place Like home...I craved eucalyptus trees..and of all things meat pies. Lol they have pot pies...not the same. Anyways. Hope you have a wonderful night, lol what's left of it. Kind regards..π..cookie Ps I enjoyed talking to you.ππ»

Good morning everyone,ππ, Well I bagged up the cheese I dehydrated. It's gave my 80 baggies with 3 slices of Cheese in each bag. So at 2 bags per person for10 people Thats 4 weeks worth of calcium. Got a long ways to go huh! It also gave me cheese to blitz into a powder. And that will get used for White sauce and to sprinkle on sandwiches. The cheeses slices is to just munch on.....like having cheese Flavoured chips. Lol very yummy. Kind regards..ππ»..cookieβοΈ

Hi everyone. I know. I'm still here. So I have just made my first hardtack Or soft tack not sure on that one. I have tweeted the recipe a bit to include More protein. I hope it works. My dads in hospital...he is super sick with Pulmonary Edema. He has been there for 2 weeks now...And the stuff their feeding him Yuk.π I though if these turn out ok and he likes the flavour Maybe he could start sucking/munching what ever and hopefully. It will put some protein back into him. Anyways their in dehydrating now..should be done or almost done When I get up in the morning. The mix tasted yummy. Just hope it sets.ππ Hope you have a lovely evening.π..kind regards to all..cookie

Hi everyone ππ Yup I know...dedication. So I have been researching hardtack. Wow huh. It's so cheap and easy to make 3 ingredients...that's all so all up it might cost you About $2.00 to make some and it's nutrious enough to keep You going. I'm all for the cheap side of prepping. Money doesn't grow on trees and well I am prepping for At least 10 people in our family. So now when it's day light I'm going to have a go at making hard tack..first off it will be the Original way...then I will make some with chocolate flavoured whey. As its really high in protein. I'm looking forward to filling buckets with it. Wow wasn't that amazing. Hardtack that is over 150 years old. The original hard tack recipe. 4-5 cups of flour 2 cups of water 3 tsp of salt. Mix altogether into a dryish dough. Press out then cut into rectangles..then stick Skewer holes into it on both sides and either bake or dehydrate....I am going to dehydrate it. It's such a basic recipe. Lol.....don't be afraid to experiment. Prepping doesn't have to cost a fortune. I sure try and get the cheapest.
This is exciting to me. Lol Nite nite ..kind regards..π..cookie

You can dehydrate hardtack instead of baking it? You bake it before eating, yes? Or is it just a salty raw flour flavoured biscuit you get?

Good morning everyone. So my first set of hard/soft tack is almost done. It looks like it's working. It's really hard.
Hi Peter..according to some of the pages I looked at last night When I was researching hardtack yes you can dehydrate it. Although I'm not a 100% sure that's why I am going to experiment Today with it all. The ones I made last night were with Coles 500g oat bran. I added the apple sauce and a tiny drizzle of honey. It was still Dry so I added some water. Added cooked quinoa and 3 scoops of Chocolate whey protein. It tastes pretty good. If you had to eat it every day I guess you would get sick of it. Lol like anything I guess. But it's the fact it's protein....that's what got me involved. Then when I researched hardtack and saw it can last up to 150 years....lol with the extra protein From weevils...it's still worth an experiment. It's what they have given soldiers in all the battles...plus they had them on sailing ships. So I'm prepared to give it a go.....I hope there's will have a go as well. It's so cheap. Really. Kind regards to everyone.. Keep your head up..you can't see what's coming looking at the ground..ππ..cookie

Hi everyone. Sorry I read it wrong last night. Cook...up that's right....cook till totally Dehydrated...guess I shouldn't research When I'm tired. βΊοΈ But I will still give it a go. They say.... I know here I go again. Lol They say once you have soaked it for 15 minutes To fry it up with some butter. So now I want to know If you have to fry it up to make it taste better wouldn't it still Work theoretically. To make the raw mix as Peter pointed out.. Dehydrate it and then rehydrate it and then fry it? I am defiantly going to experiment with that one.
Thank you Peter. I appreciate all the help you and Remmy have given me. Like I said before. Lol I'm definitely not an expert. Kind regards..ππ..cookie..ππ
