Hi everyone. Hangs head in shame...I feel dreadful for giving the wrong info. It will make sure next time I really research everything throughly.
But on an up note. IT WORKED. LOL YAY
So this is the recipe I used last night. And it's worked. And it's not baked and yup yup yup it's rock hard..will defiantly keep. Tastes nice and not quite as hard as a concrete slab...but still very hard. Total trying time in my sunbeam food lab dehydrator is 10 and a 1/2 hours at 70 degrees. The thickness I pressed them out at was about 2 ml thick.
Recipe 1 cup of cooked quinoa 3 scoops chocolate whey protein powder 1x500 g bag of Coles brand oat bran 1 jar of Coles brand apple sauce 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water A drizzle of honey?
So I have written it down in my cook book as protein snack.
Hope everyone has a go..let me know what you think of the flavour. Sorry guys but the most expensive part was the whey powder. $30.00 In Coles. Now on to try the BAKED hardtack...wish me luck🍀👍 Kind regards to all..😊..cookie

Hi everyone.😊 So today I am trying tofu jerky. It's in the dehydrator as we speak. So how was your prepping day today?
You know prepping doesn't have to cost a fortune. You can start right now.😊 All the people here at Asprep are fantastic. Nothing is too big or too small a question And everyone is ready to help and to answer any questions. When I started prepping it was just a couple of extra cans of spaghetti a week in the Shopping..and not a brand name..just the 0.75c cans from Coles or woollies...or Aldi's where Ever they are cheapest for you. 4 extra cans of beans even will feed a family of four for an extra day. And let's face it every day you survive is worth it. We decided to cut our junk food consumption In half. It gave us a little extra money to prep with and we are healthier for it. AS anyone here will tell you. You prep with in your Means... if that's a knife tapped to a broom stick for defence then so be it. We all have our ways of prepping as everyone Here will tell you. Your survival is important to everyone. Don't give up. I will always try to find a cheap alternative to food prepping. Even in recipes I'm not perfect not even the best....not even close..but I am willing to try...and I/we hope you join up. There are loads of ways to prep food...or weapons..or grow your own food...even talking to some of the Wonderful people here that also are prepping with kids...you can and will learn so much. I have in the short time I have been here. Lol and yup I probably talk to much but hey this is How I communicate. This is how you learn about me. I have my quirky moments and tend to ramble On and on and on, lol bout well anything. Some times talking helps alleviate the stress and uncertainty you might be feeling about if you want to prep or not. I am me..you are you..and I hope I get the chance to meet you. Have a lovely night...kind regards..😊☕️🌻..cookie

Hi everyone, How is your prepping Saturday going. Well I dehydrated the tofu jerky and like the beef jerky I make I dehydrated it till it snaps...no moisture. And I have to say...it's lovely. It's like eating tofu chips with A mild spicy smokey flavour to it. I used the same recipe that I use For my beef jerky.and the tofu I used is macro organic tofu protein 13.4g I am impressed. Miss 9 loves it. And once again It's something she can take to school as a healthy snack. The school she goes to Is very strict with food. So many other schools still don't seem to care but her school does. I am making the hard tack today...I couldn't make it yesterday. Lol I ran out of gas. Picked up some cheap lantern wicks for home made oil burners. Want to give that a try in the next Couple of day. I am pleased to say that Coles in Northam is stocking more powdered eggs.. And more of the always fresh toasts...someone keeps buying boxes of them...😋 Anyways hope you all have a productive day...it sure is a lovely day. Kind regards to all..👍😊🌻..cookie.

Hi everyone. I just made chicken n mushroom with extra protein. I boiled chicken mince...rinsed it under hot water...boiled it again rinses it again. Put it back on the stove..added ground flax seeds..quinoa and oats with powdered chicken stock And ground pepper...stirred it all through. Then added 2 punnet's of fresh mushrooms A tspoon of chicken stock and some almond milk....simmered till all the flavours mixed Together and the mushrooms cooked..the oats thicken it naturally. Tastes great and it has more protein because of the extras. Going to set it dehydrating in a bit...just having a quick cuppa.
Don't be afraid to experiment..taste everything. If you don't like it you won't eat it...lol Kind regards to all..😊..cookie

Hey everyone, Yay..they worked a treat...the hard tack biscuits Cookies..crackers are so hard they should be called concussion cookies. Lol They smell great and mine have a lightly golden glow. So now I leave them out to finish drying and then I will Vacuum seal them away..that way no bugs or weevils. So now I am going to make bucket loads of them .lol I am going to try different flavours with them. Maybe add some more protein to them. Hope you have a go. Kind regards. To all..😊👍..cookie

...Vacuum seal them away..that way no bugs or weevils. Just remember that rodents (mice, etc) will still be able to smell food through the vac pouches. They'll also eat through it in no time, so I'd recommend storing in some proper food grade buckets with sturdy lids. Bunnings has them at a reasonable price (for a shop) or you can order them online. I've had a very bad experience with second hand buckets; they emitted a very strong sour smell after a while, presumably from the mayonnaise they were originally used for.

Good morning world. Hi Peter, Yes I already have the buckets. Hubby got them from mitre 10. Bunnings would in deed have been cheaper .. But unfortunately we don't Have a Bunnings. But it's ok. They are food grade buckets. I have 3 sizes. I re bad everything I get from supermarkets as I don't like weevils and unfortunately I have had some bad stuff......the rice was the worst. More weevils than rice.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day. To all the old mums, new mums and soon to be mums Have a glorious day. Kind regards.always..😄..cookie

Hi everyone, So I have read almost all the dehydrating threads and almost all of the other threads And I can see that what I offer up as information really isn't anything new. I was wondering why no one comments...guess I know now. I won't ramble on any more. Sorry everyone. Cookie

And yet no one comments. Lol how is a person meant to know If it's a good thing or not. No one commented on the hardtack. Oh well. Learning more and more how this works. Cookie

Hi Cookieoz Your posts, along with those from others, on dehydrating have been very useful. They have certainly inspired me to try more of it. I've done other preserving before, but dehydrating veggies is so easy that I can pop a few in the machine and just leave it to do its thing. I have kale in there now that I want to try powdering to add to smoothies.
Please don't be offended at a lack of replies to posts sometimes. I often don't comment on things because I don't get to check the forum many times a day. This is the first time I've had a chance to read the results of your hard tack experiments. I'm guessing it may well be the same with others. And now, I just have a couple of minutes and I'm checking the forum on my phone so it's slow typing - I prefer to type more replies on a computer but I only get to do that rarely - perhaps once a week or so. I try to remember to click "like" but am often interrupted in my reading and don't finish.
So lack of replies may not mean lack of interest, but just lots of posts to read and reply to when people finally get to it - I'm sure that's the case with many people here.
BTW, sometime I do plan on trying to make hard tack, but I don't think I'll get to it for at least 3 weeks, at which point I'll come back and revisit relevant posts and I'm guessing I'll have questions and comments about it then.
(I hope my reply here has come across with the tone that I meant for it - a gentle explanation just to let you know you're appreciated - hoping there was nothing harsh sounding in my reply.)

Hi tomatoes, Thank you. That was very nice of you to reply. You your self must know where I'm coming from With the dehydrating side of things. You just don't know if your doing a good job or not. By the way thank you for putting me back onto almond milk. I love it more than ever and with it being so low in calories Hubby and I have both lost 3kg each this week. So thank you. I appreciate it. Kind regards 😊 cookie

And yet no one comments. Lol how is a person meant to know If it's a good thing or not. No one commented on the hardtack. Oh well. Learning more and more how this works. Cookie Honestly, I'm having trouble keeping up with the volume.
I typically only do 1-3 posts a day. I read the forums on my phone when I've got 5 minutes here and there, make a mental note if I feel I have anything to add to the conversation and if something has already been said or responded to, I usually don't post.
For the hardtack thing. Its something I'm interested in, I'll probably try it. I read your post and thought 'that's cool, I'll see if I can try that soon' but keeping it in my mind long enough to remember to post on it when I got home isn't going to happen. To me, soon is sometime in the next 4 weeks... and its a maybe.
So I appreciate the threads, the info. Even that which has been posted before, its always good to see a new perspective, a new recipe. Just understand you're operating at a speed I'd never be able to keep up with. Expect it to take a few days for a response from me on anything substantive and please don't take that as a sign of disinterest. Even now, I should probably be in bed, but I'm just getting a couple out before the week begins again...

Thanks for that... I know I go fast...I don't slow down till night time. Hyperactive...that's me. But when I stop...man do I stop. I have a lousy immune system..something the Drs are stumped at. So I only go out n about maybe once a week. Sorry. I forget sometimes. Kind regards..😊.. Cookie

Hi everyone, So last night before bed I decided to dehydrate some Greek style feta cheese. I sliced it thin, spread it out on the trays equal distance apart and set it going On 50 degrees for 7 hours. Wow oh wow oh wow. It's scrumptiously yummy. I love it. It's crispy and lovely and tasty to chomp or suck. It sort of makes your teeth feel squeaky when you chew it. Defiantly will be repeating the process many times over. Oh and no fat comes out when it's dehydrating....just like craft cheese. Hope you have a go and experiments with it. Kind regards..👍😊..cookie
