Not yet, but I'm working on it. I have about 3 months worth of what we regularly eat put away at the moment. I only started about a month ago.

I could not live on that shit that she has put aside for her family. No way! Imagine how painful it would be eating that same crap every day, day in, day out for over a year! God there is a reason they call that kind of bread Bunghole! At any one time I always have over 30kg of Venison in the Freezer which I can make Bangers, minced burger patties, steaks etc. I read to the picture of her meal from the 350lbs of grains that she was saying that she has and stopped there. What on earth was the go with this woman claiming that Humans positively Need Butter for organ function!?? I have not eaten Butter for years and I am still kicking quite well.
Does anyone include Meat as a major component of their food storage? I love meat. Like a Dinosaur I reckon I would go belly up without a couple of meals each week being based around Meat.

Yup meat eater here! Start to feel shaky after a couple a days without it. And butter is actually good for brain development and for your bowels. It has butyrate in it which helps to build up the lining of the bowel! You can get butyrate from resistant starch as well!

I have been working my bum off canning and dehydrating this last month but it's worth it. I really need to get some water stored even though we have rain collection drums, I would like some casks of water stored as well.

Meat will be a MAJOR part of my food stores. I'm a carnivore. I don't eat rabbit food lol.
My concern for me, is I cannot eat beans or lentils. Every year I try again, but their texture just makes me want to vomit. I can't even handle kidney beans in a chille con carne. It's not the taste as much, but the texture. Rice wheat and pasta will be the route I take

Yep it's nice to have a freezer full of meat, but how do you keep it frozen when the power goes out??? Yes mate, I know you have a gennie and lots of fuel! But a freezer uses more power than is acceptable for a gennie or Solar! I would suggest canning and Smoking/salting for long term meat prep! I have come to the understanding with food storage that having extras like, legumes, wheat/cereal grain is great as long as you have a mill to grind the wheat and some great recipes to use the food you store! And some people can't or won't eat beans and or some grains! So what then? I am only storing what Jinny and I like! Yes we like Beans and I have made some great dishes including bean rissoles.!! We have canned meat (Rump and Blade), vegetables and lard! Next I am going to can butter! I looked at the number 2190, and you say, well?.. that is how many meals there are for 2 people in 1 year! So if I have a piece of bread with each meal( 2 for breakie, 2 for lunch and 2 for dinner thats 6x2=12 slices per day for 2! That equals 3/4 loaf (500gram) = 5-6 cups flour or 1kg grain! So 300 loaves of bread will last 365 days! and = 300kg of grain for 2 people for 12 months! Just for bread! Most people consume 200-300 grams of meat per meal, we have meat 150x2 time in a year so that is = 90kg of meat for 1 year. !!!!! This works for all other foods if the values of weight per meal is used! Most people do not realise how much food we eat in volume/weight per person each year, so food storage can be daunting! And don't be frightened to put away lot's of comfort food, yes Junk food to keep some reality and normalcy in our lives when all else has gone to shit

But a freezer uses more power than is acceptable for a gennie or Solar! I would suggest canning and Smoking/salting for long term meat prep! Nope Gaz, not my Solar system. I'm currently producing far more power than I am using and that includes a Cool room & two Freezers, one being the fridge freezer & the other a 700L Deep freezer and the cool room an old fridge motor in a steel insulated walk in box. My system is total Overkill but in my experience you're never left high and dry or disappointed and found wanting with Overkill. I already do plenty of smoked Deer, beef, goat and even bunny Jerky. It's amazing how small a 500 gram piece of meat shrinks to, once baked for 8 hours. Not really interested in Canning at all. Happy with my Cool room and freezing & Got plenty of Spam and other things to do instead. Most people consume 200-300 grams of meat per meal, we have meat 1500 time in a year so that is = 450kg x 2people = 900kg of meat for 1 year. !!!!! HOLY SHIT!!! I thought that I ate a fair bit of meat but this is a crazzzzzzy amount! LoL Gaz Do you seriously eat meat every meal and 1.2kg of it Every day! I'm lucky to eat 2.5 kg in a full week! My Venison steaks are usually 500 grams or so and when I have chook it's no more than a breast being 250gr and then a beef steak being 500gr and this is between 3 and 6 days a week but only in one meal per day of meat eating. Christ I don't even think I could stomach that much food weight in total in one day! haha Today I have had two bits of toast for breakfast and a bowl of curried cauliflower for lunch that was no heavier than 400grams. Tonight's dinner is a Salad that will weigh about 400 grams and I am full for the day! You must be a bloody big man Gaz! LoL

Sorry Nate, We eat 200-300grams a meal, this would also include fish and other meats/seafood (protein). That 1500 was 150 x2 not 1500, I will correct that now!! Thats 300 meals = 90kg..LOL And I would love to hear more about your Solar system! If you want to PM me about it, that would be great! No and size of panels and size of inverter and Batteries.. Thanks Nate

yep, meat is pretty high on my stockpile lists as well! lol, look at us, little pack of carnivores XD hell, i need one good serve of meat a day or i get very fatigued and listless! a big part of my preps are for hunting too (my location isnt densely populated enough to be hunted sparse, and not everyone has guns, snares or knowhow, even fishing gear!) good part about being in the bush, lol XD im also storing packets of herbs, and spice mixes, they can make a big difference to a basic meal of meat, veg/foraged greens etc and rice pretty easy to justify in the shopping basket too, the bagged ones are pretty cheap
