So we are in the midst of a global pandemic and financial crisis. The news is in overdrive. The world is changing around us. I'm monitoring the news which is covering mainstream moderated content.
However I'm also actively searching for signs of deterioration in order to stay ahead of the preparedness curve. Ie reports of civil unrest and organised crime activity linked to the pandemic.
So far its been minor, skirmishes at supermarkets, isolated looting incidents and the profiteering orientated organised bus loads of shoppers clearing out stores. I have a suspicion that bigger and more violent issues will occur in the US and act as a catalyst for increased incidents here.
I started this thread to capture news of these incidents since they may not feature in the mainstream news for a while.

A friend of mine, an ex cop now a NSW firearms dealer, has been told by a Vic dealer that the rumour is Vpol are gearing up for mass firearm seizures from licenced shooters for the duration of this pandemic. I'm struggling to believe this rumour, but some serious government intervention in other areas of society is already taking place.

Probably leaders talking and making rough plans for many scenarios.
If there is mass unrest in USA like civil war, mass shootings etc, the leaders here will probably use that as a reason to seize the guns her to reduce the impact of people going on a rampage. It will just leave the criminals with guns and the lawful citizens without.

Over the weekend we had quite a few break ins ( Lower Eyre Peninsular ) - food was a target, as well as cars and money.

Lockdown starts in NZ tonight at 11.59
I live 15 mins outside a 75,000 person town in NZ.
Went for walk to nearby river just now and there camped in a Dept conversation camping ground was a decent company of infantry and few armoured people movers.
Very friendly as my boy and I walked through no perimeter yet. Just putting up tents and unloading.
That was quiet positioning, but not unsurprising.

Ive seen a few youtube vids of looting tagged with coronavirus, however they are not all legit. Pays to look into background/comments as some are regurgitated from previous calamaties.
Neighbourhood watch / local police pages / regional rural crime pages are worth monitoring for a sense of whats happening in your area.

I can see them seizing all the registered guns. That won't make anyone safer though. Not sure how it'll leave the country if they do that. The police barely keep the peace at the moment and when they're running a skeleton crew and unemployment is 50%, it will be a wasteland...

Very interesting.
Italy can unlock more money for people and ensure enough ATMs are working. They may have to have more police or national guard or similar protect the supermarkets and distribution centres. They may have to organise some sort of distribution to citizens and residents. Hopefully they can calm them down and make it through the hump to where the virus is more manageable.
Interesting to keep and eye on the situation. American may be on same trajectory.

"death toll soaring past 10,000 on Saturday, as confirmed cases reached 92,472" You reckon that's a typo? If not it means the death rate in Italy is 1 in 10! Which is damn worrying!

I wonder how much of this problem is created by the vast hordes of illegal immigrants that flooded southern Italy over the last few years?

Not overly surprised or alarmed at the middle eastern unrest, that's a way of life in that part of the world.

The death rate is about 10% in Italy. Once the hospitals get overwhelmed it’s harder to save people, so people who earlier they would have been able to save, now they cannot. Purely because they don’t have enough resources to cope with the demand.

I'm thinking there must be many, many untested people with the disease in Italy. If they are counted, the mortality rate would be lower.
