Saudi Arabia and Yemen have increased its population by 50% since the early 2000s. Oman has doubled. All in desert areas with almost zero cropping other than that fed by desalination or water bores. If there is ever a real shutdown of food shipping, these guys will starve. Or they will blockade the choke points like the Straight of Hormuz, and demand food or they cut off the oil. That would be a great idea. The sooner we stop using their oil the better.

Crime drops around the world as coronavirus keeps people inside nypost.com/2020/04/11/crime-rates-drop-as-coronavirus-spreads/Presently the crime situation is down, no doubt the stats are influenced by a changed police response and changed crime reporting as well as actual changed levels of crime. Will be interesting to see how it trends from here as people get a bit stir crazy and more desperate for some.

If I remember correctly, Fortescue is going to electrify all their underground vehicles over the next couple of years. Although, then again, with the price of oil as low as it is now, they may hold off on that idea for a while.

In our area of the world, home breaks are almost zero, as everyone is home now, but business breaks are going through the roof.

Yeah, some of the high-end boutique stores in the Sydney CBD shopping precinct have evidently been removing their expensive wares from their street-front window displays. Apparently they suspect that the ram-raiders and other smash 'n grab merchants may decide to have a crack over the long weekend, seeing as all the Police have been re-deployed to manning the roads out of Sydney to enforce their lockdown on holiday travel and guarding hotels where returning travellers have been forcibly quarantined.

I drove from the Illawarra to the retreat this weekend, to do 'essential work that can't be done from home'. You know, like stock welfare check, check fences, weed and feral control The type of freedom of movement provided by owning rural land. Saw very few cops on the roads, and those that I did see didn't bother me. I guess having a non-descript white dual cab ute without 1000 spotlights, without huge mags or a dog cage on the back, without gun related stickers and fishing rod holders and a huge bull bar just made me look like an ordinary farmer, not some redneck hunter sneaking out from the city under lockdown.

Mining trucks are headed to 100% automation, so this will be a part of it. Automated electric vehicles sense when they are running low and head to the charging station. As long as it is in a pre-defined area, it works well. Diesel is much harder to do automatically and generally still requires humans to run it. The fire risk in mines is also a lot lower with non ICE vehicles.

I'm still wondering where the power comes from. And can it be scaled up? I can see it as the future of mining where lots of activity is happening in a small area but not so sure about farms.

My Ranger Green Rodeo LX Dual Cab 4x4 I bought new in '99 she looks very sun bleached and battered now but still runs great! I was hoping to deck her out but could be pushing my luck running down the freeway looking like this! Anyone reckon NSW Highway Patrol might raise a flag ?

Only thing happening in my local area is an increase in vandalism and minor property crime, which is very typical during school holiday periods. Few cars getting spray painted and keyed is about all. Last year there was a long running saga of kids making pipe bombs and blowing up public toilet blocks with them, or setting fire to the toilet paper rolls in the toilets trying to burn them down.

A friend of mine, an ex cop now a NSW firearms dealer, has been told by a Vic dealer that the rumour is Vpol are gearing up for mass firearm seizures from licenced shooters for the duration of this pandemic. I'm struggling to believe this rumour, but some serious government intervention in other areas of society is already taking place. I won't be surprised when we see the dickheads actually run with this! On our local ABC radio they are always running radio clips with someone saying we should ban all sales of guns during this pandemic. The clip pops up all the time - doesn't sound at all like propaganda to me!!!
