If the Russians get bogged down in the cities they will haemorrhage men and equipment at an unsustainable rate. 360 degree battlefield where every man and his dog has a manpad or stinger, where civilians and soldiers blend in together, where the Ukrainians have nothing left to lose and everything to win.

There is much inaccurate shite coming out of Chris Smith's mouth in this vid that bloke should be ashamed of himself, but Molan is on the money here! The "factual" stuff starts at around 4.40, some of the comments are good also.
‘Smart money’ is still on the Russians to overpower Ukrainian forces
The Russian army is likely to revert to a more “conventional attack” after being held up in so many other areas, according to retired Army General Jim Molan.
“Sadly, I think if President Putin now decides to conduct conventional warfare, using massive artillery attacks, massive military attacks … then untrained, but armed civilians on the street are going to suffer for it,” Mr Molan said.
"I think as the Russians settle into this battle, then they will revert to what they’ve always been very good at – which is absolute maximum use of firepower.
“I think the smart money would still be on the Russians.”

Yep, I agree with this. The Ukrainians have put up a massive fight and Putin under-estimated them. Severely. He's not taking the city with the forces that he has there. He can't afford to commit more (all the experienced troops are still sitting back home/over the border) troops to the ground. But he can lob things from a distance. At this stage he should know that logistics won't allow for a protracted siege no matter how many of his own officers he kills. What's the next best bet? Commit everything that you can freely use without weakening your position at home. The ultimate question is, just how resolute is he?

It's not going that badly for Russia. Ukraine is a big country. A near unopposed army can only do 100km per day. Ukraine is a near-peer enemy, not a walkover. That said, a guerilla war will still cause havoc for them if it goes that way. Wonder if Russia is also worried about chechnya siezing the opportunity.

I suspect that Vlad is attempting to do things the "easy way" for Ukraine at the moment - it helps with the PR and inevitable occupation. Ukraine would be sensible to recognise that.
If Vlad flicks the switch to "the hard way" ... if centuries of history is any kind of guide ... the body count will be tremendous, cities will be gutted and Gulags in Siberia will be full of Ukrainians. Russia might operate differently to what we are used to seeing with the US and its occupational police actions in the ME.
I'm also wondering if there will be veiled use of BW before this is over ... Ukraine might turn into a laboratory for Russian weapons scientists and engineers. Covid provides a nice cover for that kind of thing.

Covid provides a nice cover for that kind of thing. Sounds like a phrase that has been said in every single government department across the western world behind closed doors.

Friday night I was expecting to wake up on Saturday and find Kiev taken by the Russians, logistics and resistance made a difference. No easy win for Putin... It is getting very politically messy. - Bank runs in Runs in Russia.
- More weapons promised to Ukraine.
- US Stock futures getting smashed
- Turkey now closing the straits to Russian ships - major escalation......!!
- Cryptos are down 3% to 6%
www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ukraine-president-agrees-hold-talks-without-preconditions-russia-belarus-borderlso on Sunday for the first time Turkey signaled it is ready to block Russian naval access to the Black Sea... "Turkey’s foreign minister said Sunday that the situation in Ukraine had become a war, a legal distinction that paves the way for Ankara to potentially ban Russian warships from entering the Black Sea through a strategic chokepoint," The Wall Street Journal reports. The terms of the 1936 Montreux Convention is now expected to be triggered. Speaking to CNN Turk Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said: “We came to the conclusion that the situation in Ukraine has transformed into a war,” and this means “We will implement all articles of Montreux transparently.” www.zerohedge.com/markets/traders-brace-chaotic-fx-market-open-ruble-set-collapse

Maybe Western governments should of taken more notice of Garry Kasparov...he released a book in 2015 called Winter is Coming. He has called nearly all this...he knew it was coming.

Wanna see messy?
Putin takes the gloves off and smashes Kyiv with cruise missiles. Ukraine responds by sending dozens of small teams armed with stingers and atgm's into Russia to blow up civilian airliners, passenger trains, buses etc.
I saw a report that former western SF were heading into Ukraine to teach their untrained militia how to bleed out an occupying army.

Bank runs are a good way to get people irritated at their government.
Putin's going to have to put his vote-rigging machine into overdrive at the next russian election.
The Turkey thing is interesting. Turkey is NATO and if the Russians shoot at any Turkish military, they can invoke article 4/5 and bring in all of NATO to support them.

It all could get out of hand real fast...I wouldn't like to see Putin backed into a corner...could get nasty for everyone. That's the thing that gets my hackles up. Madmen rarely do well when pushed into corners and Putin's definitely of the age to start seeing shadows where there are none. Not that I'm saying there aren't any at all, just more likely he's seeing even more of them than exist!
