Yeah same. Nobody must know what you have stored. Stand in the breadline with the rest. Gather resources the way the rest do. Make your house look just as bad as everywhere else, clearly occupied so as not to attract 'gatherers', but look like you have nothing. Even mobs make risk/reward decisions.

Basic flaw in your plan......staying in the city. Get out ASAP.
If the shoe fits, put it in your mouth.

Basic flaw in my plan (amongst several others). Have a partner that will not move to the countryside.

No, that's my job...
It's why I've adopted a 'bug in' strategy. Not gonna pretend it's as good as being a self-sufficient farmer, but there are trade-offs to be had.

Our strategy is also to bug in. We are at our bug out location and setting it up, but plan b is to clear out into the National Parks that surround us and fight on.
However, if we have to do that, its almost all over and the whole world is gone to hell in a hand basket. Its the last resort.
Theres not much left to chose from.
Am selling stuff to get more ammo and some night vision gear, which will be needed soon I suspect. Why night vision ? I can ask the same question as to why over 20 years ago I bought a Geiger counter. Why ? Do I need it ? Not yet, but in the future ? Who knows.
If you associate with the wise, you will become wise as well.

For those who have to urban bug-in I would reccomend reading Selco's account of that situation from his Balkans war experience. Our communities are far less cohesive than they were in the past and criminal elements will be amongst the first to exploit an absence of police. Even if it were relatively short duration chaos overall, if it involved widespread grid down for more than a few days I'd suggest you'd want to be ready to fight for your life because there are some evil & sick puppies out there who will jump at the chance to do what they like in an unsurveilled world overlaid with chaos & panic.

A thought......
Fireplace smoke.... Unless it is quite overwhelming, most people, town people anyway, may smell but will not pick up to put 2 and 2 together from just a wood stove, fireplace, back yard camp fire and the like... I'm going to say country, bush people will pick up on wood smoke quickly because of forest fire type possibilities.. However... If anyone is burning garbage in your fire, that smell will likely attract a lot more notice and attention..
Light and noise discipline are like said... When there shouldn't be light or noise, don't do it.. If you must make light, make as little as necessary... If you must make noise, make enough that others will think ..I don't want to be near that....

I am in a small but growing coastal town. there are so many ifs and but with this, but even gaming out a run to the countryside scenario comes to an end that doesnt work for me. I will try an adapt to each situation, and in my head, trying to move to the country where there are less quality education, resources and opportunities for my family doesnt make sense. the plan is to get the kids through high school and move to a tiny fishing village for a semi off grid/self sustaining life. Until then our eggs are in this basket and I will play that hand when it comes.
in this scenario though, I would imagine having to semi stave ourselves to fit in. imagine the mass weight loss when the trucks stop. maybe a overlooked prep item will be elastic waisted pants and smaller belts.

When we moved here, nearly 20 years ago, we looked at schools, etc, and even though the school bus, both primary and secondary, pass our front gate, and the schools were rated very good, we decided to home school. Never regretted that decision.
Yes, there are not as many choices at the local shop, and things are more expensive, but, the advantages are many, not the least of which is that the local shops all know u by name, and can get almost anything special u need. Once a week trip to the big smoke (a town of 5,000, vs 50 locally), means we plan what we need.
Jobs are an issue, but when u get land, u can start immediately saving by growing your own, having a hose cow or goat etc.
Besides, as long as you want to work, jobs are always available on local farms, even driving a feed truck.
Add in no electric bills (solar etc), select a property with wood resources for heating, a dam and water tanks, and you find you don't need as much money to live as you used to.
I suppose I am saying not to write off that option.
If you cant run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

Bikies will be the biggest problem. Already armed. Already organised. Many of them are now controlled by those from the religion of peace. It's not gonna be good if they run amok.

Wonder of they bounce when they hit the road after the front Tyre has a 'blowout', caused by a small piece of lead passing through it ?
Just doing some firewood, using the 240 v electric chainsaw and was thinking that its a very quiet way to process wood into lengths to put through the swing saw. Easy to start as well !
If you say nothing, no one will repeat it.

Gunna need a bigger gun safe !! If you wish work done poorly, pay in advance. Yip, managed to convince the other half to get a shooters license, it has cost a new gun safe, and another caliber to cater for. Caltrop spikes: will take out most unwanted vehicle movement. Cheap and easy to produce. The bike gangs don't' worry me post SHTF, they will go for easy targets: there are no cops to protect them and no medical backup. I think most will have aversion to running into a scrap the could cause injuries. Any hostile force needs to be wounded as much as possible: it reduces manpower as they have to attend injured and moral is devastating. It is much easier to defend than attack, still true for modern warfare. The Russians with overpowering numbers and firepower are struggling in Ukraine.

Caltrops are prohibited weapons in NSW. Nothing in NSW is legal including carrying a pocket knife. Come the end of the world you wont be carrying a pocket knife.. It is a RFS recommendation kit to carry a pocket knife in an emergency situation. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/prepare-your-family/emergency-survival-kitThings don't just deteriorate to Mad Max overnight, plenty of time to do what is required to protect your dwelling, if have some old wire or nails available in TEOTWAWKI/Mad Max Scenario. Just take some nails from inner walls of your house. Or you could prep accordingly. Desperate times desperate measures.

I can't remember the last time I saw a bonafide Bike gang doing a run. Not since the early 90's. Where the heck have they disappeared to?
