Been on a bit of a Jack reacher kick lately and an eBay seller had the first 22 as a group lot so even though I already have a couple that makes things a bit easier.
What about you lot, what are you reading currently. You know, other than news articles about how the world is fooked.

I actually read a lot of fantasy fiction. When I want to escape reality by reading, I want to go WAY out of the bounds of reality lmao. That being said I do also enjoy the occasional Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum book that I snag out of my hubby's collection when I get bored. I'll be honest, I used to be a voracious reader when I was younger but ever since I've had kids I just don't seem to find the time for it. I'll default to a quick youtube video or something most times instead. I should get back into the habit. Now that I think about it, it's very probable that I stopped reading so much when my eyesight got worse (pretty common in pregnancy) so maybe I just need to get a kindle so I can make the font larger.

Fiction isn't worth reading... I trust the irony of that statement on this forum isn’t lost.

What's up mate? Your comments all seem to have an arrogant undertone to them! In fact you are coming across like one of the newer breed ex-ADF self-labelled "Veteran" types that I've been required to work with lately. Do you have a problem with the people here specifically or it's just how you communicate with everyone?

Give Audible a try Stealth... I did try that. You know what I found? THEY READ TOO SLOW!!! 🤣 I decided to try it out when we were on a return trip from a family holiday. I think the mistake I made was using a book that I've read previously so I knew what was coming up and got annoyed that I couldn't spead-read (listen?) the boring parts to get to the interesting bits haha. I did try with another book later down the track and found it wasn't too bad, that was a non-fiction book that I hadn't read before. But I think I'm one of those weirdo "I need to hold the book" types. I find fiction and non-fiction equally valuable. But if I'm reading for entertainment I tend to lean towards fiction. Non-fiction is reality, and reality can be entertaining just as much as fiction so I'd never say that I think either one doesn't have it's place. It's just that if I have the time and energy to dedicated to reading for several hours I'll tend to go for something that lets me totally remove myself from reality for a while. I think it's a bit of a brain space thing for me. I have to make time and energy to read non-fiction because I'm generally reading that specifically to learn. That means I need to focus closely enough to retain the information. Whereas fiction, it really doesn't matter whether or not I remember individual specific facts. Then again occasionally you'll find me reading about the Great Emu Wars or Ferret Legging purely out of curiosity.

I watch all YouTube videos at 1.15 speed - you can’t really tell and they’re much less frustrating to listen to. With Audible you can set it to 1.1 or 1.2 - for some readers you may want even faster. But if you don’t make it too fast it doesn’t sound sped up.

I like fiction-non-fiction.
By that I mean educational material woven into a work of fiction to make it less boring and to give examples of the concept in use.
Examples of this I enjoy include books by Andy McNab or whatever the Max Velocity guy calls himself these days.

As Tomatoes says - crank up the speed. I listen to nearly everything at 1.5 - your brain gets used to it after a while.

I just finished One Second After book and am now into One Year After. Before that, I finished Book 11 of the survivalist series and patiently waited for book 12 to release sometime next year hopefully.
If only I knew of a way that I could print off all these survival and prepping manuals I have on my computer for dirt cheap so I can start reading them lol

I think you might be taking things a bit personally, I have no issue with anyone on the forum, I might disagree with a position they take so I’ll argue the position, not disparage the person. But hey if you wish to discuss it further feel free to drop me a message as we needn’t derail the thread.

Is it worth reading the Jack Reacher books in some sort of order or can one pick the best books and start reading? Ive seen the Reacher tv show i thought it was pretty good, so wouldnt mind giving the books a try as i tend to read a lot but only non fiction stuff. Current book im trying to read is called "Civilized to Death - The Price Of Progress" www.amazon.com.au/Civilized-Death-What-Lost-Modernity-ebook/dp/B01CO34O9S

I thought the recent TV Reacher series was excellent but the book (Killing floor), not so much. I know it was Childs' first Reacher novel but it was pretty ordinary to read...felt like I was reading a check-list.
