I watched and then read some critiques of the book. They were saying it is a book well worth reading, even if they did not agree with the death part. One called it th3 rebirth of money. They did not dispute his facts at all.

Interesting aside, I've been staying with friends who have a contact in Russia, these people are professionals (physicist and uni lecturer IIRC) but things are so dire they have been living on...you guessed it, potatoes. That is a fairly dire warning. I thought Russia's woes were from recent events but that sounds like they have been going on for a while. All there oil money must have been used for lining personal pockets and the military.

This is not quite what you asked for but I am having a shot! Answers should be more of a story rather than dot points. You can add any extra facts but have to live with the events as delivered. You don't have to live this scenario as many of us do not have enough family members prepared to try out privations for the sake of improvement and testing. The scenario will unfold and your plans will need to be based on future events that are not in your control.
Part one It has not become general knowledge yet. Through ausprep and mathilda's research, Gray has joined the dots and lays a compelling argument that shtf is imminent. You check your facts from many diverse and unconnected info sources and come to the same conclusion. We have passed peak oil and the glut of oil is a very temporary measure by opec to try and hide the facts. They can no longer just increase their reserves without new discoveries. facts: we have one week before an announcement is made to the general public. US has begun building their strategies reserves which in itself will drive prices up. Australia will implement severe restrictions as a precaution very soon It is known that there are twelve super tankers that have fuel and are headed here as part of normal restocking. So it will not be immediately that fuel will actually be low. So with the restrictions we should have a couple of months to prepare.
What are the first steps. You can base it on your own lifestyle. Be careful as part 2 is coming. if you have any nasty suggestions to add to the scene pm me and I will try to add them to future parts

People who lived through tougher times had different problems than currently faced by us in Australia. It is easy to see the world as selfish and reliant on others hard work. But really that is only the case in fossil fuel supported western style society. Remember the coke bottle in the movie " the gods must be crazy" people in primitive society will be happy as lorry if the shtf in the rest of the world. There will be no more bulldozers in their forest clear felling. The bushmen will not have to worry about development in their patch of ground. iPads will be silent no matter what colour they are. I liked it just fine when I had to actually dial a phone, or even walk to my mates to talk to him. Reset of any significant kind will be potentially horrendous and I am far from ready, but it will come sooner than expected just cause that is how suddenly works.

To me both of you Petes are correct. My bov is a 96 Vitara 4 door with a tow bar. It is only thing I can afford as all I have is invested in my land. If I have to leave it will be to go parents farm. I grow my own meat and poultry. I am a amateur vegetable grower and I know clearly I cannot support myself with whT I grow now. But I try and I learn. Last night we had loin chops with spuds, zucchini, sweet bite tomatoes and peas. We grew it all bar the peas. The peas are on the garden but not ready. Probably won't survive a genuine teotwawki but it the is a sustained grid down or interruption to essentialls we will be ok and so will most of my family. There is a very limited wild life, fuel water, etc to make bugging out anything other than a temporary measure.

It’s a surprise for many to discover one medium potato (5.3 oz) with the skin contains: 45 percent of the daily value for vitamin C More potassium (620 mg) than even bananas, spinach, or broccoli; 10 percent of the daily value of B6; Trace amounts of thiamine, riboflavin, folate, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, and zinc …and all this for just 110 calories and no fat, sodium orcholesterol.

By coincidence I dug these up yesterday with the Xmas pitch fork. Grown from about 1.5 m2. and today I planted kipflers in a 100 ltr tub to try that. you are completely right about learn now. I only just learnt in time that green catereplilers eat potato leaves and nearly lost them. Used a garlic, chilli spray to get rid of them as picking them off was not viable in a bigger crop. i think the famine also shows don't put all your eggs in one basket. lot of work to do on potatoes before I call it a skill and move on to corn and sunflower

The boss is/was sick. She makes the Christmas family secret sauerbraten sauce. So I said "rest up darl' the prepper has it covered". I pulled out the last four jars from the last Christmas. She always makes a massive batch, so last time I confiscated the leftovers and canned it. Everyone said it was as good as fresh. It is nearly 50% vinegar so canning was probably not reqiured, just bottling would have done but I wanted to try out canning last year. I would give y'all the recipe but I only know what goes in, not the quantities. But it has a look and consistency of pumpkin soup. It went so well she has promised to make a batch solely for canning.

Bow is legal crossbow is prohibited weapon That has always confused me I think a cross bow is a proscribed weapon which means you have to get permit to own. But once approve you can have many. you just need a good reason. Like a shoulder opp so that you can't use a long bow for hunting. My bad it is a prohibited weapon. Other stuff is ok about permit etc. better get a cross bow and shoot and 'eat crow'
