Ah sweet. Yeah i've cooked some pretty epic soups between multiple stockpots so i think it'll handle the weight. Mentioned it to the missus and seemed interested so probably going to pull the trigger...
Only other thing is it says using it as a sterilizer will void the warranty... Anyone know the why behind this??? Would be good to be able to do mushroom grain...

Yeah noticed this in my inbox this afternoon... One question, almost everything I read on these talks about gas burners, anyone used them on an electric hotplate? Cant see an issue but figured Id ask... For that price would be a wonderful bit of kit to keep the missus busy/happy... Not a bad prep either

Yeah, if staying at home on my semi-isolated homestead fails... I'm heading for the (Adelaide) hills!
Ticking 3 of the 4 boxes... need to finish that bunker.

We'd best keep this story under our hat. If the masses find out we'll have to move from 2% of stuff all to 2.5% of stuff all so people can again pretend we can defend ourselves against world super powers...

Whilst I did not take the time to watch the videos, my reading of the situation is people are definitely worse off.
Its the height of arrogance and egotism to think you can see problems as an outsider, think you are so smart that you know what is best for the country and use war to improve a situation.

While I do think religion can play a role in these things it is rarely the true cause in my opinion. Most of the time denomination or sect is determined by family history and regional factors.
These tribal/political power struggles always exist and the fact different methods are used to define the "in" and "out" group does not mean they are the true cause of the struggle.
Religion, race, nationalism ect are all used as ideas and ideologies to herd people into conflict. It is often a small few power brokers trying to keep or take control that lead to these events and I feel for anyone but those leaders, be they political or religious figures, to determine a specific "cause" is pure speculation regardless of what the fighters on the ground tell the "experts"...
I'll keep my religious opinions out of this thread and just say there will always be a group of people following their darker self; chasing power, money and resource control.

All email/forum work takes place on the phone. Would struggle going back to a desktop! Yeah I have a $29 Telstra ZTE, does all I need.

Whilst my comment was tongue in cheek... The fact we have all this going on in the world and i have to listen to stories about pokemon on supposedly 'serious' news outlets does bother me... I understand there may be some benefit to gaming that insentivises excercise and seeing the world... But the fact the latest trend in mobile gaming is a system that tracks and records locational data (I understand this is not new to mobile gaming, but the scale concerns me) leaves me wondering how far this will go. This has data-mining ramifications along with privicy concerns. Will be interesting to see the first law inforcment request for this data. iPad isn't letting me quote paranoia, but I know some people are being stupid with Pokemon and letting young kids out alone at night to play. But as a young adult I've had loads of fun running around (while being road safe) and have never had as much fun while exercising before. Walked 6kms which is decent for me while having fun with it can't be a bad thing.

There are definately a lot of things going on right now pointing towards us heading towards big changes in the coming year. I dont think we're even looking for a spark to ser things off, these things just running their course will come to a crossroads soon.
One point not mentioned in this thread yet is the rise of the pokemon, this recent development bothers me... I thought we put that to bed years ago!

Completely agree this is not a system for a government department with a very narrow task and with paid staff where their performance does not affect their quality of life. Its a very different mindset to talking about a group of volenteers trying to move a community forward. I disagree a community needs to run as though it was a corporation. This topic is probably larger than this thread and I'm sure we'll find spaces to debate it going forard

I think the difference in opinion here probably stems from a difference of community. I live on the outskirts of a small town, most people know each other and people actually care about things that affect us all as a whole.
The idea that people wouldnt care about a decision that affects the group and themselves seems a bit strange to me. You must not have a very high opinion of those in your future community.
The question at hand is very open ended with far too many variables for there to be one right answer. If the question is what would I do, I'm pretty comfortable in my response. There should be a different answer for every person as we all have a different scenario in mind.
I'm also an Anarchist which obviously biases me towards less centralized decision making...

This criticism is often thrown around of such systems. I've been on committees much larger than 3 and it isn't that had to get people to agree to sensible things.
You've never got a single person to agree with you? You don't need a consensus...
It all comes down to if you think people actually *need* leadership to be able to live their lives.

I would attempt to lead people away from the "one person makes the decisions" model. If one person is in charge there will always be people trying to take that position, ususally those unsuitable, like Mindy.
The flip side is if everyone has a say, nothing will get done.
I propose a system where no less than 3 people are in charge of any decision, these people are selected from the community like a jury and would change on a regular basis say weekly/fortnightly. You could go through a pool of everyone who was interested until you started again.
No closed door meetings, any community member is welcome at any discussion.
Doesn't directly address the issue of Mindy, but would solve it in a way. I disagree with the whole idea of one person in charge.
