SR I disagree, the topic "guideline" of a location wouldn't have too many dramas (outside a mad max, and if that happened no where would have the "perfect" balance but without numbers might as well embrase slavery)
To a trade store, there has to be profit (or how would the person running the store survive, also that will be in a post apoc world a very dangerous job)
The total point of this is to float ideas for a last ditch plan, so a battle to survive is worth it, as "preppers" we have a unique way of looking at the future, but everyone is so focused on "the event" not post event where after "years" of fighting to survive, a slight sence of nornality will be more welcome than a hot meal
There are many options here to play around but if the focus is just on trade and greed....

- In regards to islands and what not, there are a lot of islands up north here in WA, and I imagine that there are similar formations in QLD as well, however those bloody cyclones are a pain in the ass so while the weather would probably be better for a lot of food production and the rainfall is nice and high, you could lose everything overnight because mother nature is having a bad day +1 Yes there are a few island chains, most are occupied, and I wouldn't rush to recommend any (I know a small one that will be great as a meeting platform on the gold coast, but only that) Are there any in wa roughly between Sydney and Bundy (opposite coasts I know but you hopefully get the pic) that are at reduced risk of nature or 2 legged animals (aka humans) The thought of travel is what it is, not the best thing to go from east to west in oz, when everything is safe, add a apoc to the equation and asking for a hard time, but if the "ideal" location is in the state of WA then so be it, I still prefer oz for the location tho as its common ground and we have already adapted to current climate... Radio/comms, with ham its "unofficially" the com of choice for preppers but its a open form of communication... And can be tracked...

Ill look into it, I think there may be some off Monkey Mia but ill check the locations.
In regards to comms, what do you believe would be the best way for us to communicate and talk in an environment where internet is not available?

Comms your guess is as good as mine I don't think there is anything on the civilian market that I have much hope in, ham is good to ears drop but once you start broadcasting you open yourself to the "risk" of been tracked down (paranoid I know but once it hits I would be extremely paranoid)

i can definitely understand the paranoia but i think it would be a risk worth taking. If done right we should be able to minimise risk, maybe by using short bursts with a generic ausprep callsign, have a formula for figuring out the channel\frequency based on the date or something like that.
I could try smoke signals but i would need to set the whole wheatbelt alight to get info to you guys :-)

Forum wise, I doubt many of us will attempt to keep in touch unless there is a local trade alliance or something
But good point, I do know there are ham networks (I think on the 2m band) that preppers do love and use to keep in touch with amateur radio, but not quite my kettle of fish...
Most info broadcasted would be hearsay and rumor....
Its not something that I am dismissing (as it has a very good purpose) but in my current situation, not quite worth while...

fair call.
In regards to islands off WA, the only ones that far south I can find that are reasonable is Dorre Island, which is off Canarven, it is 3km wide at its wide points, however it is 30km long. It also has another island of similar size just north of it which is only half a km away
There is a large island called Meade Island just south of it but that i very very close to the mainland so i am off 2 minds as to whether that would be suitable. Obviously easier to get to for friendlies..... but also for everyone else.

Need to look at it more closely, but they look man free, desert like?? No major infrastructure, and if you look at the mainland coast not very desirable... (Very dry) The chain of 3 islands gives a lot of freedom in security procedures, and space is a great thing.... The lack of water dose concern me and how dry it looks, the cliff face coast tho is like awesome... (Even if not a plan z expect me there in a "zombie apocalyptic bs event" struggle wile making the land use able but... The security bonus makes a prison look like a afterthought)

Islands till something better turns up Stradbroke is very well known and has people living on it now, its greener than the WA island listed, but will be a more popular shtf location, so a pain in the but Also access is quite easy to straddy... (Have a look at the WA island suggestion on google maps, its not 100% ideal but offers lots of security options)

nicer islands are all throughout the dampier archipelago, I used to camp there as a kid and fish was abundant, the cyclones didnt really affect them much (i was told it was due to the archipelago messing with the wind currents but im not 100%). They seem to be quite green and are quite close to the mainland so you can access them with a dinghy or even swim from one to another if you are so inclined.
I personally think they would be better options for WA but i know the cyclone thing can be very unpredictable

Osfg, if you have a min some fantasy input please mate,
2 island locations, one is a slither shape just north of Perth wa, the other has a link here
The fantasy is 1500 "ausprep forum" survivalists, have lost everything/too dangerous to live at their bol unless they choose to be a slave or die...
Need your unique views (if you choose) but play with the fantasy, nothing fancy, the idea basiclly of no matter what we do were screwed and a final possible bol

The trouble with the locations proposed so far is that they are either too far from the guys in the west or too far from the guys in the east. I think we should be looking for an island somewhere in central Oz so it's a reasonable distance from all of us.

The trouble with the locations proposed so far is that they are either too far from the guys in the west or too far from the guys in the east. I think we should be looking for an island somewhere in central Oz so It's a reasonable distance from all of us. That's kinda the idea, it would take me roughly a year to get to either of those locations, but, population density and the undesirable locations for the sheep, and the "too hard basket" all make ideal as a plan z, also given the location, choice of land, sea and air transportation plans can be played with.. And hopefully less chance of "stumbling" into undesirables when in a situation that dire where we have left all our supplies/life behind, and we are in the completely screwed basket, a far away "haven" makes the struggle worth while... The fantasy part is big on this, one of the key points of this location that getting there is so undesirable, that the "sheep" and "trolls" think we are completely stupid, but the end result gives us the much needed time to organize, train, recover.. So we can get some form of "peace" Tbh i dont want to live the rest of my life in a post apoc world just surviving, and end up like a sheep, i want to have the option to live, play, be human, yes it will take a lot of work but been able to "forget" the world as we knew it is over, but i cant stummic the only option is "live on the run" and "go from place to place randomly" or "live as a slave" When we have a unique oppatuinity to have a "parradise" even if only a few dozen of us show up, it gives a final goal when we are in a word f&*%ed

Keep playing with locations SR This could advance further to a state by state meeting/note leaving hub, to anything... Comms wise, I have no idea of any method that would work country wide (some systems exist) that would help outside ham

Location location location:
Any other suggestions?? Or do we settle between the 2 island groups in WA?? there has to be other locations worth while??
But how about some broad rules (some have been repeated)
Water Hard to get to (has to be in too hard basket, this is a last hope point) Not already inhabited?? (Its a case where we don't want to fight to control it) Easy to secure Space = room Low disaster risk (floods, cyclone, fire, etc) High possible food source Clean
Any ideas??
(Remember its not a what I say goes, there maybe better locations elsewhere, the WA suggestions are the only ones we have so far, that are not already inhabited by 2 legged monsters, there is not much in qld unless you want inland and state park, both too easy to get to, and also base jobs for the "first" to get to the bol so it can accommodate expansion... This is not a primary bol unless your caught with your pants down and have no options, this is not the first time I have floated the idea, but us the first time with active feedback..) The overall point to this, we all have local plans, all have local retreats/bol but very few have back ups of back ups, and this back up needs to be hard, needs to look "random" needs to be a last hope and treated as such... A lot won't finish the trip, some won't even try, that's the idea, the fantasy part is best case numbers...
The use, full breakdown in current society many events can trigger this, its not a war base or ice age base, its things like desiease, emp, full $ collapse ect
