BCE1, the new laws in NZ state All semi automatic firearms, including shotguns, but excluding .22 calibre rifles with a magazine capacity of no more than 10 rounds, will be banned.
This means all semi automatic pistols are gone as well. Last time I checked a pistol was indeed a firearm.

No pistols are specifically excluded in all the sections of the Act - in brackets after each reference to firearms it says "(excluding pistols)" fortunately - and regulation of pistols has been put forward by politicians as an example of safe and appropriate regulations - so I think they are safe, but don't want to jinx it !!
Here is the NZ police link -https://www.police.govt.nz/advice/firearms-and-safety/changes-firearms-law-prohibited-firearms
They have pulled a swifty with all semi-automatics - the draft had semi's with an internal 5 round magazine was ok - but the bill that was passed excluded them - smoke and mirrors. But very few on market here so no real impact - but feels dishonest and has annoyed me.
Lots of recently turned over garden plots in NZ

Another awesome example of a "Practical", "Scout", "Utility" rifle!! @#$% Who makes this ?? @#$% I have been interested in the Scout concept since it came out. I have stuck with my "tried and true" companion, well, because it is tried and true. Also it has the power needed to back up any situation. (bears) ... This is an old school, late 1940s, early 1950s, Vietnamese Huskqvarna, commercial Mauser 98 action classic sporter in 30-06. The Scout concept has evolved from the early conversions to a point with the combo of good iron sites, light weight, changeable magazines, most excellent long eye relief optics are available now and lighter weight I would be interested. The 308 Win is more than enough power for my needs. However it seems they are quite expensive. I've been told I'm too spoiled because at the time my old Husky was about $200 CDN....

Lots of recently turned over garden plots in NZ Mate don't forget they are Politicians first off, so honesty, truth and integrity doesn't exist when it comes to passing legislation! Re The garden plots, I reckon many will leave their guns in "Government Custody", there are loads of National Parks and State Forests in NZ where that stuff will be securely parked! Under the wife's Rose bush wouldn't be the smartest place! Get the message out mate, learn from Australia's grim experience, now this crap has started it never stops, the Politicians, Public Serpents and Police just keep ratcheting it all tighter and tighter. Without remorse the stormtroopers just keep smashing away at Law Abiding Firearm Owners! If I knew back then what I know now I would've handed nothing in! It's all designed to stuff you around over and over until you give up and walk away from the sport you love, your freedom and your lifestyle! Many of our gun laws in Australia are just pure idiocy that only Politicians and Public Serpents could dream up!

I'm not encouraging or condoning anyone breaking the law irrespective of the massive injustice it represents, it is however an insight into what will now happen! bce1 hand them in take the money and then go legally buy "better" ones. I like semi autos and wish they were still legal but I don't feel "undergunned" at all with the awesome collection of Bolt Actions I now own, matter of fact those Bolt Actions have simply made me a better rifleman and shooter in general!

New synth stock, red dot, threaded barrel, 520 rounds of Chinese ammo...$250. I was happy with that. Dammit what a SCORE! Can we bother you for a picture sometime mate, could carry a lesson or two for some of us here? I'll take a pic soon.

Despite the apparent ever-increasing restrictions I do often see signs of hope. For example, in QLD they stopped renewing handgun licenses for property owners last year, farmers who had owned a hand gun for decades we being refused a renewal.
But just today at the range I heard that after a couple of court cases that didn't go in favour of WL they are now renewing them as per what was the status quo.
Also in QLD, Nioa are building a huge munitions factory in Maryborough, it will apparently create 200 jobs so the state Gov is well happy. Nioa are also the largest firearms importer, so I'm thinking that this factory will give Nioa some pull with the state Gov.

The more I've looked into the MVP Scout the more I am concerned about the reliability of the action, aka why buy a rifle that needs to have the action 'fixed' in order to cycle reliably. I think I'll stick with a quality European brand, possibly a Sauer or Tikka CTR 20" .308. I like the quality/action of my other Tikka and the CTR is a modest weight compact alternative.

That one I'm not so fond of, the CTR weighs a kilo less than it does.

Yes good one! A kg is quite a weight saving! Here is another of my all time favorites! Been "stalking" this one on the net for a few years now! All it needs is green / brown spray can for extra speed and dump the bipod!

I quite like my 30-30 lever gun. Short, light, powerful, shoots quick but reloads a tad slow.
