New synth stock, red dot, threaded barrel, 520 rounds of Chinese ammo...$250. I was happy with that. Dammit what a SCORE! Can we bother you for a picture sometime mate, could carry a lesson or two for some of us here? Here are two pics.

Is this legal in NZ or here? For Aus I don't believe so based on the fact that it looks like a military semi auto and we have some firearms appearance laws in Aus. I think those appearance laws need rationalising but they are what they are.
The long magazine and folding stock would be illegal/restricted in various Australian states.

I was wondering more about the high capacity mags when I asked that! I forget we have appearance laws because I prefer items more like this.

Here is a real BUBBA gun! Ugly as all f**k off but at the same time, potentially a very practical option! The scope though should be binned and either a Red Dot or a 1-4 compact variable installed. You can do a lot with very little!

You can do a lot with very little! I like things like this... A bunch of years ago, I had a Bubba built Ishapor RA1 (762x51, 308 Win) with a bolt on 2 piece sporter stock and a bolt on (no drill) scope mount. It worked very well. The stock wasn't great, it took a lot of cleaning up flash lines from the mold, the scope mount was rock stable after in letting spots for the set screws to anchor in. And like said a short 1x4 power compact scope made it half a playing card accurate at 100 meters. More than adequate for anything in the bush here. Like many things, it was butt ugly so I traded it. Wish I still had it at times.

Something nice just got this off ar15.com:- Shorten the barrel a few inches get some back up iron sights and a red dot on there and this becomes an awesome utility rifle!

now my beautiful XM15 looks destined for gun confiscations I have been thinking on what are nice multi-purpose - farm and hunting - bolt action centre fire rifles. or semi-autos with internal 5 round magazines. any thoughts from the assembled crowd?
What XM15?

@#$%^ This describes every SKS in Canada. They all must have the magazine pinned to only hold 5 rounds. Most do it by putting a leg under the follower.
I have always liked the SKS every since my big brother was sending home "interesting things" wrapped in a bolt of silk from Viet Nam..
Ugly as hell, heavy now that I'm an old guy, simple, rugged to a fault, dependable, easy to care for, more than effective, and reasonable cheap compared to most things. I've seen big game and game that would be considered dangerous taken with even the cheap Chinese soft point ammo at moderate ranges.
I take 10 round stripper clips, cut off one end at the point where the spring tension part in the middle is, drill a hole and put a short pop rivet in. Makeing it a 5 round stripper that only goes in one way. Not the best maybe, but better than handling individual rounds to load.
There is certainly much better equipment out there. But more than adequate.

But more than adequate. Great idea! My AIA M10 pictured at the start of the topic is for all intents and purposes a "bolt action SKS" it is all wood and steel, rugged, heavy, unrefined and a bit of an agricultural implement. It does however take detachable 10 round mags, I've got a mag loader and was actually thinking of cutting those 7.62x39 strippers in half as they are way easier to run through with five rounds over ten, they tend to bind less feeding in.

These days that's a bargain! I'm sending my B1 out to a Gunsmith shortly to have it taken down to 17 inches, nice rifle but they are heavy and a little long for carry around on the farm bike.

Another good one folks! I hope these images are inspiring and uplifting enough for those who have lost their Semi Autos and especially those in NZ who are about to lose them! Keep your chin up folks! Perhaps one day the scumbags who took our guns off us will be forced to give them back via more intelligent Law Abiding Citizens and the ballot box!

Another very practical, very clever carbine for real world use! But still expensive for what it is! This bloke has been trying to sell this for a few months but is asking too much! Calibre/Item: 7.62x39 Make: Lithgow Action: Bolt repeater Comment: Custom Lithgow #6 look alike, built on a 1921 Lithgow SMLE 111* action. It has an excellent bore, the bolt head & magazine is a work of art.

There are some real thieves in the gun and firearm parts marketplace. The markups are incredible. A recent example is a guy who bought some pistol mags off one dealer for $60 each and now has them listed for $175. Another is a select fire M4 that one Sydney shop is asking $10k for but would cost under $2k, brand new, to source yourself (providing you have the correct licence).
