Australian Politicians of all brands have been wilfully immersed in this CCP BRI stuff right up to their chins! It will be very interesting to see what happens if Morrison cancels Andrews' BRI deal.

I agree and can only hope he does this. It is my own personal litmus test to see if i bother volunteering to defend this country or not if push comes to shove. I won’t defend a country with such an active fifth column. What’s the chinese word for welcome?

Beno I wouldn't recommend someone from AusPrep joining the defence force under any circumstance. They outright discriminate against white males, which seem to be the majority of this forum. It begins in recruiting and never stops.
History also shows what happens to those who are not the 'chosen ones' during conflicts.

I laugh my arse off when I hear our "intelligence" chiefs trying to justify spying on it's own citizens!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but I think that is one of the worst pieces of advice Ive ever read. Service in the ADF will always be beneficial and provide plenty of opportunities for betterment.

If you enjoy going through a longer wait during recruitment due to being male, being held to higher standards due to being male (Eg: fitness tests that will see you kicked out if you repeatedly fail), yeah, it's great. An absolute honour to put your life on the line to serve an establishment that discriminates against you.

As bad as the CCP is, the only government that has every really done things to harm my family is the Australian government, in particular the Victorian state government.

Bug, the fitness test for recruits is different, yes; For men: 15 push-ups, 45 sit-ups, 7.5 shuttle run score. For women: 8 push-ups, 45 sit-ups, 7.5 shuttle run score. Less push ups. To get to basic training (Kapooka), one needs to pass the PFA. Once at Kapooka, on the 2nd day, you must pass the PFA. If you fail, you go home, and get to try again. Male & Female! The standards ( education, medical etc ) for entry are the same across the board. Don't meet the standard, don't get recruited!

Those fitness standards aren't just for Kapooka. The different levels continue once enlisted and must be passed on a yearly basis.

Military service can create many opportunities after you leave. My daughter is a good example. Went into army straight from high school, not a great student, did 5 years, came back from deployment with an $80k deposit on a house, now earns $120k a year plus bonus (up to another $20k pa), working 9 to 5 in an office as a contractor for ADF. She is 29, single, and will own her house in Canberra outright within 2 years.
I think there is little chance she would have achieved so much had she not served.

Have been lurking for a while, but had to sign in to tell everyone that as per above^^^ I work in China, with a bunch of fat wankers who fiddle with their phones non-stop all day! Most of them are in their mid-thirties though, so I guess can't really be classified as young. China still has compulsory conscription for all males upon completion of year 12 (unless there is two or more sons, in which case only one needs to do it). Reality is that very few people actually do any service though, as they are often pretty shortsighted the time they finish school, and therefore don't meet the sight requirements. I reckon this is only partly due to playing on phones though, but more likely also due to doing homework in poor light until the wee hours for 5+ years at middle and high school.

That number seems very low. Would be just one of many. Only news because those in it are high profile.

If you have enough data on the right people [aka someone with power] you can control them using their fears. Oh look you cheated on your wife.. oh look you look at ____ porn and it would be embarrassing if people found out. It's why agencies collect data. For the average joe blog it's meaningless.

That's been a tactic of intelligence agencies for a very long time. CCP is no exception.

Hmmm, maybe I should pretend that I work for ASD and hope the Russians, Israelis and Chinese tempt me into a honey trap with various very attractive women. And when they send the 'action shots' to my Mrs she'll probably just laugh, say thanks for giving me the night off. And for those who think I'm joking, my profile pic is my girlfriend (the blonde) and my mrs. I'm lucky they get on so well.

This video from India's propaganda outlet is probablly on the money with respect to the political tensions between China and Russia over Russia's support for India in the India/China border clashes.
Bottom line as I see it is there is not much global political support for Chinese aggression as it has been unfolding and there is clear rhetoric & trade & arms sales actions against China's aggression.
