When war with China kicks off I wonder which side the Australian Government will be on? Like I'm really hoping that all the Politicians, Public Servants and Police will renounce their sordid CCP alliances and actually stand with the Australian People! And whose side will the Chinese living here be on? Will they side with us, glad to be here, or decide, "better to be the devil's right and than stand in his way?"
No offence, fellas, but this will be an issue if you hold dual citizenship.
I think you will find most Chinese here are anti CCP, except they are afraid of a minority here who are openly pro CCP, and who use coersion and threats to keep them quiet. I know more than a few who would gladly take up arms to defend Australia.

A little video I ran across today....
Direct threat to Australia it seems... A threat in so many words....
How do you think that will go over ?? ??

Note his comments about Iron ore.
Exactly what I've been saying for a long time ... its the one economic weapon we have. Lets make sure we use it to our benefit and not theirs.
This will require a government with balls of steel because the mining Barons and Baroness would rather squeeze the nuts of OUR elected Government, to keep their huge profits rolling in, than those of the Chinese government who is savagely punishing all other areas of the Australian economy.

I think the Chinese have shot themselves in the foot. Australian grain exporters have found new markets to sell grain into, and without going through the loops the Chinese made us do, we can sell almost all our grain at equivalent prices. I will try and find the article about it and post it.

Meanwhile the Philippines president has had enough after those 200 Chinese "fishing fleets" found their way into Philippines EEZ.

Yep.
How about we stop messing around planting new lawns and putting up new soft buildings at military bases (ya know ... to support ScoMos much beloved Tradies and Contractors) and instead start populating the bases, as they are, with way more actual weapons systems and troops (to support our National Defences and everybody who lives here).
I suggest investing in lots of SAM systems as a very high priority.

I put in a request for 500 of these. I'm sure it will be approved.

Pffft Duterte will sit back and let them do whatever they want. He already admitted that there's nothing they can do about Chinese incursions of 'fishing vessels'. He did say that he wouldn't allow them to stay if they found oil... As if oil is the reason that China is banging on their door . So China now has the only way that the Philippines would fire up (as much as they can) and it's something that is extremely easy for China to avoid. Duterte knows they aren't there for oil, so he picked the one thing to chest-puff about knowing that they'll never have to worry about that condition being set. Typical grandstanding little man syndrome. Gotta be rough when you're the biggest little man in a little country though heh.

And having sorted out air defence ... we can have plenty of these ready ... just to do parades and look cool during live fire exercises.

I personally don't care if the Chinese take out a few useless latte sippers in our capital cities.

View AttachmentI put in a request for 500 of these. I'm sure it will be approved. S400 series is such a long range you wouldn't need 500 of them! I would also say for the uninitiated, all the recent wars on terror would have been quite different in conduct if the adversaries were adequately trained and equipped with highly capable air defence systems like that. Worth thinking about when considering conflict with major powers as opposed to crackpot states.

Can you ever have too many air defence assets ??
And for sure ... war between properly tooled up adversaries with similar capability is very, very much different to the asymetrical warfare adventures we have been seeing since Korea.
I genuinely wonder if Washington has any appetite to engage in it with China when push comes to shove. Or ... how long they'll stick at it if they do at least make a start. Very long casualty lists will be a reality very quickly.

@spinifex ... yeah nah, more is good if you've got the budget & people. If China were coming for us with air & naval forces I'd be wanting (aside from S400/patriot capability) SSNs, ++AEW&C, ++P8's & Superhornets (inc ++ Growlers) with a bucket load of JASSM & LRASM. That would complement our layered defences nicely.
A couple of carrier battle groups would be nice... I wish.
