Never trust the US government. They have a long history of abandoning allies. Just ask any Montagnard warrior or Afghan interpreter.

This is an own goal for the West! Every PC millennial punter is cheering on the over the top Economic Sanctions and the "Freedom Fighters" not to mention the former Miss Ukraine! The fact is this is going to go Full Retard very soon and Putin backed into a corner has absolutely nothing to lose! Mainstream Media is erroneously and negligently talking Chemical Warfare here but I say Bullshit, Nukes are a very real possibility!

That might be because the news sanitise the coverage. If they screened the unedited footage, like of those Ukrainian militia who ambushed a Russian convoy thinking trees would stop hmg rounds and got their faces literally ripped off as a result.

Russia's economy was already going down the toilet. High commodity prices had been propping them up for a while, but that all comes to an end one day. We've brought that day nearer. Interesting to see if Putin heads down the North Korea path.
Though a bad outcome for the Ukraine, the best tactical decision here may be to turn Ukraine into the next Afghanistan. There is a very well motivated, educated civilian force, with many borders of freindly countries to smuggle arms accross. Right now it would be perfect to send in a massive inventory of obsolete equipment to hide and use later. Australia has to do something with it's old F88s... Send explosives, javelins etc, but no troops. The Russian populace will soon tire of seeing conscripts getting killed, and this isn't the USSR any more.

BREAKING NEWSwww.msn.com/en-au/news/world/facebook-and-instagram-to-permit-posts-calling-for-violence-against-russians-and-death-of-putin/ar-AAUU6OY?ocid=msedgntpFacebook and Instagram users in some countries will be allowed to call for violence against Russians and the death of Vladimir Putin, according to leaked emails.
Meta, the social media platforms' parent company, will temporarily change its hate speech policy for posts regarding the war in Ukraine for the countries involved and most neighbouring European countries.Posts calling for the death of Mr Putin or Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko will be allowed in a change to the company's rules on violence and incitement, according to a series of internal emails to its content moderators.Such posts will not be allowed if they include two suggestions that the threat is credible – such as the location and method – or other targets, one email said. The emails said calls for violence against Russians were acceptable when the post is clearly talking about the invasion of Ukraine.

I had lunch with an old uni mate today who was born in Moldova, mother is Russian, father from Ukraine. Talk about a 100% different narrative than what we are seeing here in AU. I have absolutely, 100% no idea what is really happening over there now...I just cant have 100% clarity on anything.
We both have two points of agreement - war sucks and we should do more to avoid it, and that fate brought us together for the same reason; our families had enough of this European bullshit and left for a better life in the new world.

I've admired Putin for a lot of what he has done ie - putting Russia first, not caving in to the UN or the do gooders, having gold holdings that exceed national debt, arrest warrant for George Sorros etc. I like that. But, I was always wary of him, especially being ex KGB. Those mongrels (NKVD) sent my grandfather to Siberia during the Russian Civil War for refusing to join the reds ( he escaped but that's another story ). This has turned me against him. My dad spent his early years in Mariupol, Ukraine. I visited it twice in 1990. I have fond memories, and am sickened by what is happening. I was there in the USSR 2 weeks before the fall of Communism, and then 5 months later. I fell in love with Kiev ( mind you, my blonde interpreter Tatiana probably had a LOT to do with that). We have family in Mariupol, and many friends in Kiev and other parts of the Ukraine. I hope they are all ok. I just don't get why, I really don't see what it will achieve. I've read news from both sides - Putin was pushed into a corner by the US/Nato, he's enforcing the 2014 Minsk Accord ( that's a good read ), to he's a devil who wants to re create the former USSR, and all theories in between. I still don't get it. Read an article in the news (msn) the author wrote about the lack of response by the West/US. Sure we'll give you arms, and supplies, but we won't go boots on the ground, but we will write a very nasty letter to Russia and tell them how angry we are at them. It made a comparison with China, who must be sitting back watching the lack of response to the invasion of Ukraine, thinking, wow, if we invade Taiwan, we'll get a nasty letter too!!! I know there is more to it, and I wish I saved the article, and of course I can't find it - but it is food for thought. Could this conflict get global? Is the US/West letting Ukraine fall to appease Russia hoping that's the last of his expansionist plans - remember, Hitler started with Sudetenland. That stopped there, didn't it!! What is China going to do? They have just announced that China & Russia's relationship is rock solid. Petrol increasing, Ukraine can't plant it's wheat crops, ports in Black Sea all closed so no exports in/out, it's a worry. Gives one even more reason to increase the preps, it may fizz out, it may not. If I had a crystal ball, I'd tell you what to do. Just watch closely what is happening and what other nations are doing, and keep a close eye on China. A portion of my family tree (Women, kids and elderly) was brutally exterminated and any survivors expelled from East Prussia from late 1944 to 46 by hate fueled Soviet forces. I still respect Russia and its people despite that nasty part of history. Just two men are responsible for that: Hitler and Stalin. Without those two nutters German and Russian soldiers would have prefered to stay home and drink Beer and Vodka, eat sausage and Borscht, scold their kids for being annoying and cuddle their wives. There's plenty of blame to go round for this war. As there was for the rise of Hitler and Stalin. And the commencement of military hostilities in WW1. If the US had left Russia alone economically and not played political and military encroachment games at their borders ... this might not have escalated to the point it has. I'm with you though SAH ... Vlad has got his course of action very, very wrong. As usual, it will be ordinary people on BOTH sides who take all the pain and losses; both as military combatants in both Armies and civilians in Ukraine and Russia. The US ruling Elite will be LOVING this. I would suspect that Russian troops would have very little appetite for pressing on with hostilities at the moment, and as such, will under-perform for a while. Only when enough of them are maimed and killed in combat will a proper hate fueled combat ensue. It will get very, very ugly after that.

Yeah, whilst I'm happy to guess at what Putin wants as an outcome here, the plight of the Russian soldier shouldn't be ignored. These guys were on a training excersize, then told to go to war with their neighbour who used to be a part of the same country. There can't be much motivation for these guys for anything other than self preservation. Hence all the abandoned vehicles.
It's very similar to Australia invading NZ because Morrison thinks they are getting too close to China. Can't imagine there being much willingness from Australian soldiers to shoot their NZ counterparts.

Can't imagine there being much willingness from Australian soldiers to shoot their NZ counterparts. If Morrison was an ex-leader of a notorious, murderous institution and held a gun to our head and told us that you and your families future opportunities and well being was dependent on your performance of killing these Kiwis then maybe our willingness would be different.
Bit hard to make a comparison...
