Any ADF or military buffs here? My question is would a shooting war actually succeed? It seems armies have all the gear but how many days of shooting consumables to they have to wage a war? Look at the production and logistics of ww1 and 2 and see the huge quantity of consumables needed to keep it going. I just can’t see a super power shooting war going on for long before ammo and rockets run out. We are not shooting at goat herders this time. The Vietnam war lasted 10 years. The yanks did not seem to run low on ammo/rockets. (kaching!)
Capacity: entire military/industrial complex. Use: small area of Europe.
This equation applies to USA and Russia.
Could bog down like the Balkans/Afghanistan. Lots of people old enough to remember how sh!tty it was under soviet rule. Rather die than relive that themselves or their kids, etc.
Could roll over like France after WW2 Blitzkrieg. Depends how demoralised the military-aged people are.
Succeed? Can you run a factory with each worker supervised by 1 occupying soldier? Can you send small groups out to patrol each area (wide terrain), knowing they will come back alive? OR Do you concentrate them in platoon/company sized groups for safety, and cover much, much less area, to minimise casualties (and minimise their effectiveness)?
OR Can you wipe out the population and replace them with your own (genocide)?
"Consumables" means a lot: ammo, food, fuel, people, parts... How well can your army improvise? How delicate is your gear? How capable are your people of suffering before they give in? (This is nowadays called "resilience")
This applies to China and...other smaller SE Asian/pacific nations, by the way...

Reports overnight of attacks in border areas. Ukraine gov claims it's Russian-backed separatists. If anyone's interested you can get a pretty good overview of news reports and social media posts at liveuamap.com/but USE WITH DISCRETION. As with all news/media, the posts are entirely based on what that person thinks is going on. But this site does a good job of pulling in media and reports from all different sources and you get to see 'on the ground' posts more often from locals. Just please, for the fluffing love of all things logical... DON'T TAKE THE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS AS GOSPEL. Or MSM posts. Or smaller, independent posts. Build a picture from ALL sources, and remember that hearing shelling doesn't tell you who's doing it. Or even for certain that the video was taken where it's claimed to be taken. But gold is almost certainly spiking because of the threat of conflict.

More bad Ukraine news, gold spiking and financial markets tanking.. Separatist leader in eastern Ukraine announces evacuation of residentsMOSCOW, Feb 18 (Reuters) - A Russian-backed separatist leader in eastern Ukraine announced the evacuation of the breakaway region's residents to southeast Russia on Friday amid a rise in shelling. Announcing the move on social media, Denis Pushilin, head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, said Russia had agreed to provide accommodation for people leaving and that women, children and the elderly should be evacuated first. There was no immediate commment from Russian officials or from Kyiv. I’m not sure but it looks like a big conventional detonation or ammo dump going up. I would have thought a nuke flash would have had a greater effect on driver and i think nuke detonations would be much more detectable from far away. Looks like there is some legitimate bang bang going on. What’s tungsten used for? armour piercing?

I was out doing soil sampling on Thursday. Usually my hand held GPS is within 5m, it was going round in circles at 15m. The US could of switched the error coding on their GPS network back on.
The EU and Russians now have their own GPS satellites, it is a bit different to the cold war, things are not looking good.

More war talk and activity on the ground. Massive explosions rip through Russian separatist city of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine hours after car bomb and mass evacuation of 700,000 civilians - as Biden says Putin 'WILL invade in days'www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10527897/Ukraine-crisis-Pro-Moscow-rebels-start-evacuating-civilians.htmlPowerful Gas Pipeline Explosion Rocks Eastern Ukraine; Biden "Convinced By Intel" Putin Has Decided To Invade(Update 5:30pm ET): Shortly after images of the gas pipeline explosion was reaching social media, President Biden appeared behind the lectern at The White House (an hour late) to tell the world that he's “convinced” that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to launch a further invasion in Ukraine, including an assault on its capital, Kyiv. After weeks of saying the U.S. wasn’t sure if Putin had made the final decision to launch a widespread invasion, Biden said that assessment had changed, citing “significant intelligence capability.” “As of this moment I’m convinced he’s made the decision,” Biden said. “We have reason to believe that.” He reiterated that it could occur in the “coming days.” "We believe they will target Ukraine's capital Kyiv, a city of 2.8 million innocent people," he said of Russian forces. www.zerohedge.com/markets/stocks-tumble-after-donbas-separatists-announce-evacuation-women-children-russia

Yeah Yeah is deteriorating into madness. The pro Russians separatists are embolden with 190,000 Russian troops to back them up and have basically trying to strart the war. With both separatist now declaring a general call up to military duty. I reckon you're on the money now. It's pretty easy being the moving target for someone that's going to pay you serious coin to be there. Having thousands of troops not far away has probably made them a bit sassy. And the Olympics finish tomorrow, which is apparently the period that the Russians promised China that they wouldn't 'start anything', if you believe some of the MSM reports. Dunno if I believe that, they've already started. Just under the cover of 'It's not us, seriously! We're just doing exercises like we do every year!' 🙄

Pity the same lesson is not done with Oz and fuel supplies.
