It's an interesting topic. Gold & silver are obvious go to items, yet there have been many 20th century examples of countries and economies collapsing, either due to poor government or war. In none of those situations did gold and silver ever become anything remotely resembling currency. If you a small, high trust community, currency can largely be done away with. The carpenter that fixes your door will expect a cut of the next animal that you slaughter etc, despite having no need for it right now. But that only works in small communities where everybody knows and trusts each other.

I doubt such a beast exists. There’s always someone who won’t put his or her hand in their pocket or contribute to the common good or who tries to rip off their neighbour. I’ve got plenty of real life evidence just in my little rural community. Rural farmers are some of the biggest Carnts in the country.

The carpenter that fixes your door will expect a cut of the next animal that you slaughter etc, despite having no need for it right now. But that only works in small communities where everybody knows and trusts each other. The USD used to be backed by gold, then they went off the gold standard. Paper money is based on the trust of the Government. Throughout history government money systems always fail and end up worthless. Gold has kept is value for 300years. The amount of gold to purchase a loaf of bread has more or less remained constant, Hence it is the go to to preserve wealth. Most people don't have the kind of wealth, so investing in skills and stockpiling makes good prepper sense. Property is a preservation of wealth but you need to be able to hold onto it. In India and China people purchase all the gold they can get, as no trust in government and other investments are restricted. Most of the European countries that had gold stored at fort Knox in the US have got their gold back - it is a trust issue and governments stockpile gold as a storage of wealth. Gold is tradeable in any country or currency, there is always someone willing to buy.

Yip 2024big changes coming all the bloggers and YTbers that I watch are going nuts with issue arising in 2024. Australia is not immune, Big container port strike and ferry strike. Poland is experiencing mass demonstration as the new EU pro gov is arresting opposition members and acting totally like a dictatorship as EU government does nothing. The next doomsday nuclear clock adjustment is 23rd Jan - will see how the woke scientists are seeing things. When left and right of politics and everyone in-between is warning of issues... Time to "bunker down and lock the hatches"

Eventually that's gonna happen, in 1, 10 or 1,000,000 years, but its a 100% probability, so it does make sense to be prepared, but not go overboard.
Indeed, other possibilities are economic collapse, Government failure, World wars, etc, but we do what we can without knowing exactly whats going to happen.
Broadly speaking, more and more people are realizing that they are their own first (and possibly last) responder.
Hey Worf, I hooked Data up to a Modem, wanna see ?

Unlikely. Probably has more to do with the shrinking membership of OPEC. In Australia (unsure about worldwide) the emission reductions due to EVs have been exceeded by the increase in average car size (Emotional support RAM trucks etc.)

The effects of it on western countries will be higher than others though. The impact gets worse the closer you get to the poles, and practically the entire western world lives at a latitude of 35 degrees or higher.

"IF THE ECONOMY IS SO GREAT, WHY ARE TAX REVENUES SO WEAK"
Can I hazard a guess ?
Three reasons, 1 The people who were sacked for not taking the jabs, now unemployed and not contributing to the economy, or if they are, doing it 'under the table'. 2 Those who had good paying jobs and took the jab and are now either dead, or their health is so compromised they can't work. 3 General apathy, why work hard so the Govt gets the benefit ?
A thought. Most airline pilots were coerced into getting jabbed, you still want to fly ?
If we see you smoking,, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action.

Tax revenues are probably falling (US economy) due to higher interest rates. People are buying less and its flowing into business - less hiring, less investment etc. etc. Our yearly tax revenue data is released in April, will be interesting to see the results...have had healthy increases in the last few years.

The wealthy don't pay tax. Large corporations don't pay tax. Many small businesses that did pay tax were driven out of business during medical apartheid.

Imagine, if ALL cars were electric....... Advertising is legalized lying. If you wen't back to the early days of petrol cars, you'd see a different version of the same issue. An oil crisis tomorrow and we'll see how people feel then. It's ok though because the middle east is so stable and peaceful that it will never happen.

Granted, early petrol vehicles were not all that reliable as well. An oil crisis doesn't concern me at all. I have the bits n pieces to make a gasifier to run a generator, or the truck, or even the brush-cutter and lawnmower on wood. So, fight it out boys !!! With enough fuel and oil stored up for 2 to 3 years as well. All stabilized and sealed. Like I said, knowledge is the key to surviving after the collapse, that and a good network of people around you, adequate ammo and suitable weapons. And we will not even go to the nuclear battery......no more charging your phone for 50 plus years. newatlas.com/energy/betavolt-diamond-nuclear-battery/Time to ditch the lithium stocks and get more uranium. I'm here for moral support, ignore the gun.
