It sounds to me by reading most, if not all the previous posts in this thread that most, if not all of you are not suitably prepared for a SHTF situation regardless of how long it was to last. Huh, how are your preps going?

Pet food. Wouldn't think sheeple would care about it at the time and as I'm covered would be good to get extra food for the dogs.
Like Frost said, lot of toiletries would be left initially and would be good for traiding/bartering.

I have had used a hammock camping out with a tarp suspended above before. Didn't like it as much as I'm probably too big to sleep comfortably in one.
Never thought before about wild dog packs when setting up camp. Should keep that in the back of my mind from now on.

Looking to getting a Bivvy bag as a change to my sleeping arrangements with my BOB as well as for my usual camping/hiking trips. Was wondering if anyone else used Bivvy's. What advice you would have for purchasing one and whether one would be a good idea for a BOB/GHB.

Yeah thats a real tough question. Especially difficult at a time of a SHTF. Also very easy to make a mistake at a time of stress and let the whole world know you have more then them.

Not sure why you would need anything more than a multitool blade or small pocket knife myself. If you felt you needed something bigger you could get a fishing knife and leave it with a rod and tackle in your car to help avoid a ticket for unlawfull carriage of a knife. I never carry a blade in my car. I might have a multi tool on my belt though. I do how ever have a 6 "D" cell mag light sitting beside the driver seat of my car. The light out put is secondary to its real purpose. Already had the boys in blue spot it and just smile. I would also not carry cams. I would carry plain earthy based coloured clothing. I have a hatchet hooked on the side of my bag. But my bag sits next to a tool box and tool bag so I'm not too worried about it. Plus I myself am not too worried about the cops pulling me over and searching my car. A Leatherman multitool and a folder knife is all else I need.

The layered approach to food storage is the way to go. So theres nothing wrong with having "some" freeze dried food on hand.

Plastic bottles wouldn't be too bad as long they stay out of sunlight and you replace every now and then. I use mine on the garden when replacing it.
Stainless steel bottles would also be good cause you can even use them for heating up on a fire.

Listened to a podcast recently about a guy who put up a small outbuilding on his rural property. Asked "What he would do differently if he did it again?" He responded "I wouldn't ask for permission again from local/state governtment, would do anything to avoid all the red tape"
"Better to ask for forgiveness then permission"
