We are in the digital age, high quality tablet computers are readily available, Nintendo ds and even Sony has a new generation of gaming unit....
To what this has to do with kids preparation for entertainment (as that's what the first list of supplies are about) you can have a lot more options, include kids favourite movies (digital copies are available quite easily) or some educational games, favorite music etc... Gameboys and PSPs are a little more involved, all options do accept memory cards...
Only drama is protection against emp and power generation
Family photo in hard copy is ideal but photo of drivers license on this digital media will be affective too, in aus your medicare card is also a gold mine to government trying to reunite kids...
But what other supplies would be great for young children, a solid small knife (if child is "responsible") (swiss army knives have a scouts knife..) A basic survival kit, the normal stuff that grandma won't let you leave home without (a jumper/jacket)
But light is good, even set it up as a simple ghb, there is no need to go overly complex with kids bags, but having some similar gear as mummy's or daddy's bag is a good way to go...
Its not overly difficult to have a bear bones kit for kids, personally using technology here has massive bonuses, especially when children are school age...
Back to tablets, there is a wide selection of games and media freely available, but a app known as a emulator (game boy emulator for example) that will give access to old styles of games, due to the connectivity of those devices, it will pay (if mummy and daddy have a smart phone) to have that emulator and some key multiplayer games (gameboy example, Pokémon series, kids still love it)
As the goal here is to provide a form of normality or distraction to the world going to crap

Don't forget to revisit american blackout
Personally, its one I don't focus on, resupply of water needs a little more work...
But 90 days should be possible for most of us, the question also adds security issues, other natural hazards (disasters, they don't stop when humanity stops) and other spanners that will ruin the day...
90 days is a very long time to be restricted to home also...
Other revisited thoughts is during black water waste management, extended care of injuries, anti septics...
Then add entertainment, this will be a major hazard for us... Idle minds...
Other thoughts since that was a mid 90s docco, what would be the outlook for today with the changes in society.... As people are more reliant on goverment bail out packages, and assistance, also with wide use of social media, would the danger be more reported, or warnings be given earlier?? Will government attempt to maintain control or will they bug out to their super bunker??
Lots if possible thoughts, with big and small picture problems with this event

I would hope we don't take our rebuilding schedule from NZ. I was in Christchurch late last year and much of it is still in ruins, many of the buildings in the CBD are still fenced off or enclosed by shipping containers because they are a collapse hazard. That's purely to $$ to recover, Brisbane floods and black sat fires the rebuilding efforts still haven't finished, but its not as noticeable as a building on the verge of falling down, keep in mind also rebuilding is not a government problem, its a insurance issue, only basic services are government problems

Ye repeated the advice twice, for a 3rd time to stress the importance, clean water, first aid, more antiseptic you know what to do with

Been watching these events as close as able, lots of activity over the past few years..
The biggest concern is the depths of these earthquake's...
We also had a tsunami warning issued for a 3mt wave but low odds of hitting on Friday 29th April 2016
To put into danger perspective, Christchurch was a low 7 but 1-2km deep, some reports has it as a 9 yet geological report will have it at a mid 6 (3mt tsunami accompanied this one)
The most important thing to look for is the depth, low depth more damage
Fridays one was around 30km deep...
I doubt its a lead up to a bigger one, but the increase of activity across the ring of fire is worth a note, also there are random quakes happening inside the Australian mainland, low intensity...
What to do with this info is upto you, but Australian ems will be overwhelmed by such a event here, Australian buildings are not built for earthquakes, it will be a massive mess...
Looking into the earthquake in Christchurch and other large scale nz earthquakes will paint a decent picture to follow (au gov will turn to nz gov for planning and assistance very quickly)
Biggest suggestion, water preps and first aid are the top of the list in this scenario, drinking water will be non existent, medical help will be a very long wait, don't forget antiseptics and lots of it, locate a strong area in the house or utilise toolboxes or even work out a place if the home collapses you can easily get to resources...
That will cover worse case, understanding what you can and can't do is going to dictate how screwed you are
But clean water, good first aid supplies, lots of antiseptic is key, a good radio can be handy also... (Truckies channel and emergency channels are worth keeping a ear on)
Let's hope these events continue to avoid Australia

Its typical nine news crew, they still working on their 60 mins issue... Personal thoughts on it, outside the clear violation of opsec, he could have been dressed a little more main stream for the interview, he did put more a focus on natural events so gets a gold star there Another gold star there is no mention of firearms... My concern is we are been brought into mainstream media again, people know we exist but why are we back in the spotlight?? Yeah there are some more eftwawki shows out there but no more than normal (some finished up last year) movies, last disaster one I seen was San Andreas (and it was crap! So inaccurate it was a joke, both to ems but also nature) So the repeating question is why (note: 9 done a news report on California authorities doing a earthquake scenario last night)

Pacfire sells them (I think that's the name)
Option 2 if you live in a urban type area go have a chat at the fire station... The fire fighters are normally up for a chat until they get a fire call that is (they will help refine your fire plans with real experience) if rural is only option... I would try and Google fire suppliers etc

They are a half measure... And getting phased out in Qfes rural operations and replaced with p3 Thanks for replying Well since you have some a few things to keep in mind They are 1 use throw out You will still struggle to breathe but its not as bad as nothing at all You need to get goggles if your using the p2 Get your fire evac plan in order... Tbh when I had the p2 issued I have only used them in training (cutting up a car) and in the early days as a "new toy" They are supposed to help... Some long tooth fire fighters love them... I find the p3 worth its weight in gold... I have used them in less than 2 inch visibility... And still able to function at 100% (the heat is a draw back tho) Hope this first hand info helps....

Something I follow on the side is crime rates... We are close to this depression, but been triggered by drugs more than unemployment....
But I can't agree more with a economic collapse on this scale comes with a trigger... We are too accustomed to pepper money holding some kind of value... Its generational... So would take something quite massive (you know like WW1 to trigger a repeat...

Yeah its quite difficult to get your head around... A basic picture... Think a massive power surge... But unlike normal surges that limit the damage to items plugged in with no protection... The surge is generated independently inside the electrical devices... Creating a lot of smoke... If you ever work out a way to catch all that smoke and get it back into that circuit boards you will be a multi millionaire

To but in on the odds... The odds maybe low... But nothing stops anyone having ago at reresearching it... IMHO if a major emp hits I doubt the damage is going to cone close to what's "predicted" but if bad enough a American blackout situation will be very close to it
On solar panels... Apparently not affected by emp... But the supporting components will be... (Inverters, regulators etc)
A good thing to look up (good luck finding layman's language) is electo magnets and magnetic fields, transformers (elect component) and motors (elect) A emp (electromagnetic pulse) is extremely similar in effect as a transformer... Just such a high rate of energy that the electronic components fry...
Good luck

This is a very hit and miss topic...
A ammo can may work... A metal trash can or old chest freezer are other favourites
Any metal will work as long as its sealed and no gaps in the metal
To the parts question... Again very hit and miss, but a alternator, anything that has a coil and starter motor...
They do studies on emp effects on cars, trucks etc in the states... They won't release details but overall most cars should still run... They may stall when the emp hits... But there is a likelihood the car may restart

Hang on you quote me over Ukraine but now your going on about Indonesia??
Indonesia is miles behind Australia in military technology and training...
But since Indonesia is your beliaf.... What assets do they currently have?? And how do you propose they launch a invasion??
Oh FYI Australia trains Indonesian military... We know what they have... The capabilities of their forces and ohhh you don't train others at the same quality of our own...
And Indonesia invades oz. USA will give military aid under conditions... And that will be it...

And look what was done in Ukraine... Our powerful friends were also Ukraine's powerful friends totally irrelevant ! completely different situation!
do you know the difference between apples and oranges?
Actually apples with apples The ANZUS treaty is similar to the Ukraine USA treaty over the ownership and use of nuclear weapons The treaty has something about you don't need a nuke deterrent the USA will come to your rescue... That treaty is not worth the paper its printed on... Same as the ANZUS treaty... Maybe you need to brush up on "our protection" that you have so much faith in and their policies... 2000 us Marines in Darwin... You really think that is anything out of a military force of over 500,000 personal... So apples and apples

On that, don't not worry about Indonesia and China - I would keep my eyes on India as well - sure they are a 'Commonwealth' nation, but they have a HUGE army, nukes, and they will need land and water soon. But I agree with the sentiment, we need to keep our eyes open. Remember WW2 - our govt was willing to give up Nth Qld to the Japanese, if they invaded, and create a front line near Brisbane. There are a lot of similarities with our nation and Russia in WW2 - we can afford to give up land, and stretch the enemies supply lines - but would we have the 'guerilla fighters' that the Russians did? and we have no where near the manpower they could draw on from their eastern provinces (Siberians etc). The article does create a lot of healthy discussion, and some soul searching - I just hope our leaders aren't complacent enough to think that the US will save us. Finally... Someone has looked at a atlas Some stats about India India has just finished a air base in the Indian ocean (some island out there) India has a operational aircraft carrier (the old USS enterprise I believe) India has Russian, French, English, american, and EU air assets under their flag India has a sub fleet India has surpassed China as the worlds largest population As already said India is a nuclear power India is also a space power If it wasn't for the $$ (its a poorish country) it would be a superpower.. Think about that... If we were in the 1940s India today would be a superpower of the time... I'm not joking What we have going for us... India is a poverty stricken state, the gap between the poor and middle class is huge... India is also a pacifist type state (not quite but the local population is made up mostly of pacifists) Australia dose have a capable Navy and costal defenses but the "seawiz" system will render our front line defense useless.. So YES India is a real threat... And worth investing time watching (they have threatened Australia with war in the past over racism issues in Melbourne... "If the Australian government can't look after our citizens we will take matters to our own hands" This is physical invasion on our own land... But Australia could be brought into conflict in direct relation to our defence in Indonesia, or in India... (Both are the best IMHO countries to launch a invasion to Australia... But you need numbers... Lots of numbers...) South Africa (some may see as a possible) is so unstable as a state, and the continent is in so much unrest as a whole... You couldn't rely on it for the years needed to take oz... But also follow new Zealand defense assets... That is the only country you can garrente will come to our aid... The rest of our allies... I wouldn't hold my breath
