Oh on mall ninjas... There are heaps... Some are to the extreme but that's everywhere... There is a % on all walks of life that takes things to that next extreme... Are they right?? Possibly not.. But at least there is salvageable gear available in the future...
It dose not make them any worse or any better a prepper than anyone else... Just we give them less chance of survival (justified in a lot of cases) but who's to say once shtf they won't out last us...
(Oh at one stage was following this guys info until I noticed the pattern...)

You found his survival school yet???
His write up "year of hell" is very good
But since his gain in popularity in this genre his opinion articles are more damming of the movement... But he dose offer a course to fix where your lacking... Or you haven't seen that yet??
Overall his experience advice (remember he was not a prepper during the Bosnian civil war ) is good... But he blows it with other opinions on how (skateboards as a example) is a if you do this, you will die kinda feel...
Your more than welcome to take everything he says as gospel... But I won't for reasons given...
But from memory his school is the shtf survival school (they have a blog and web page) and go through his old articles and point the pattern...

Quote from Selco, who was in and lived through the Bosnia crisis whilst his city was being sieged. Sobering to say the least. This guys first hand account of what happened to him... Brilliant But his opinion pieces are kinda out there... I remember on another forum the skateboard idea... They are light, a possible weapon and can get you going at a high speed with min energy... But they do create noise Also the more I read from this guy it feels like his way is the only way to prep... He is dead wrong... To combat again he makes some valid points but its more just a dig at the tacticool commandos he sees in the forums... IMHO he is a good read, but this guy is getting more off topic and just having digs at as many people that plan differently to him (oh he preps to avoid another civil war)

OK I only have 5k @ 1k a day ATM/efpos (as I have a 1000 limit on daily spend)
Day 1, bank withdrawal of $2500 Purchase extra Gerry cans, and fill Purchase extra food and water (even more) Purchase some extra first aid supplies
Day 2, pay 600 to rent (as I'm on a lease so my rent won't change till its up for renewal) Spend another 200 on fuel/storage Spend 200 on smokes and alcohol
Day 3, get alt power sorted, don't need a lot but can work out something with a 1kbudget
Day 4, spend the last 500 in bunnings on food relacement supplies, and water collection parts...
This will give me a good chance to weather out the storm, but good topic

STORMS SHOW THAT AMERICANS ARE TOTALLY PREPARED. "I HAVE NO FOOD, I HAVE NO CASH, SO I'LL HAVE TO FORAGE FOR SOMETHING........From SHTFplan.com 13/12/2014 As the biggest storm in five years took aim at California this week cities across the state distributed sandbags, cancelled school and warned residents to prepare for power outages. And though the storm didn’t really live up to the media hype, some people did take the warnings to heart and made last minute trips to the grocery store to stock up on foodstuffs and other supplies just so they wouldn’t have to go out in the rain. But not everyone was prepared. One San Francisco resident in particular highlights just how susceptible America is to disasters and what to expect in the event of a widespread emergency. “I thought we were going to watch tv all day, but now the power’s out,” Beth Ludwig said. Her mom added that the kids had never experienced a power outage before. Georgia Virgili was one of the hundreds of thousands in the Bay Area who lost most of the conveniences of modern life. “I didn’t have power,” Virgili said. “I couldn’t get my car out of the garage, I have no food, I have no cash, so I’m trying to forage for something.” (CBS) The storm that swept California over the last 48 hours wasn’t really that severe. Moreover, the public had nearly three days of advanced warning that it was coming. Yet, even this was apparently not enough to convince people to make even the most basic of preparations. Mr. Virgili was totally unprepared, as are about 99% of Americans based on recent preparedness surveys conducted by The Discovery Channel. As many as three million Americans now fall into the category dubbed ‘preppers’ – people who are making detailed plans for the end of the world as we know it. The preppers are an ever-growing group of survivalists who take extreme measures to prepare for a major catastrophic event. Given the various threats faced by humanity, including scenarios like an economic collapse. a rogue attack targeting our power grid or massive natural disasters, one can only imagine what it will look like should the system as a whole experience a sustained large-scale disaster. To give you an idea, here are a couple of pictures taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Within 72 hours the system began to break down as transportation systems in large metro areas came to a standstill. The only supplies available were being distributed by the National Guard and availability was so thin that FEMA had to place emergency orders for more food. There was no clean water, no gas, and grocery stores had been cleaned out to the point that people resorted to digging through the trash just to find a meal: Luckily, the emergency was similar to what we saw in California, so it didn’t come as a surprise to government officials, who had already mobilized the National Guard with distribution areas for Meals Ready To Eat and filtered water: Time and again we see the same story play out during disasters. During winter storms grocery store shelves have been cleaned out. After the Haitian earthquake tens of thousands were left without medical aid and armed gangs looted and killed anything they could. And who could forget Hurricane Katrina, where the government failed so miserably with their emergency response that it took them three days just to get clean water to those stuck in the Super Dome. Now consider what would happen if something like this went on for days or weeks. What about months? A recently released Congressional report suggests that a worst-case scenario grid down power outage lasting one year would leave 9 out of 10 Americans dead. This is an extreme example, of course, but certainly a plausible one and it emphasizes just how serious and horrific it will be for those who are not prepared. That nearly 99% of Americans have made absolutely no plans to insulate themselves from disasters and emergencies is shocking, but to be expected. Most people are under the impression that all of those billions of dollars being spent by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are for supplies that will be distributed to the general population should disaster strike. The government will help, but their capacity in an extreme emergency will be very limited. Former Secretary of DHS Janet Napolitano has warned that their response teams will likely be overwhelmed and she has recommended that people have at least a two week supply of food and water. But that warning has fallen on deaf ears, as evidenced by the “tragic” stories we hear in the aftermath of disasters on a regular basis. America as a whole is not prepared. If the worst happens we can fully expect a complete breakdown of our civilized society within 72 hours. What’s astonishing is that much of what is to come could be prevented if every individual took responsibility for themselves and put together a basic preparedness plan that included some emergency provisions like a 30 day food supply, water reserves, medical supplies and a personal defense plan. Commiefornia... Its not a state to judge the rest of the USA on, same as the city detolit (Detroit) I understand your article, but from talking to USA peppers those 2 are the worse places in the "prepping culture" But on the other note, even in disaster prone Australia there are so many not ready for a 3 day power outage or loss of water for a short period of time

Quote timestamp="1418501751" author=" thereth" source="/post/25699/thread"]I was going through my computer tonight and found some old excel spreadsheets I did up yeas ago when I first starting prepping and before I had any interaction with other preppers (even via the net).... all I can say is thank God the shit didnt hit the fan then, I would be dead in a week!!! Some of the ridiculous things I wanted, the minimal number of other things (apparently 500rd .22lr and 250rds 12ga would be enough?).... it is damn near heartbreaking. Also the amount of crap I wanted to fit into my BOB, i would need to bring a trailer along with me, and the worst part..... I only had 1 kid when this was written, I now have 3 and probably have about half the amount of stuff in my BOB and theirs. It amazes me how far I have come, and shows me how far I have yet to go when I am constantly learning new things from you guys and makes me appreciate having a solid group of like minded people to bounce ideas off. Have any of you guys had a reminder of your tender days of prepping youth? Any big purchases or plans that in retrospect make zero bloody sense? For me, out of all of it, the worst seemed to be the complete lack of first aid supplies. oh I thought I was clever and had basic gauze, bandaids and the like, as well as some painkillers, anti inflammatries and antihistamines.... but thats it, nothing more then you find in a badly stocked medicine cabinet.
Well I still remember the 3 days prepping goal (yep 3 days) but overkilled it, even with 3 days i was good for a few weeks... Also bug out plans and introduction of bobs, those were only introduced to me in forums (be nearly 18 months now) But... The running to the hills concept, would be one of the dumbist plans i have made, no bobs/inch, no real plan for supplies, no real hope in hell to survive lol, those were the days....

These next ones are very dry and LONG and hard to read unless you're an engineer, but you will get some info.
I can't find the link to the E2 pulse, but if you're really interested, I have the document and can e-mail it.
[/div]

What's the point your getting at here? Money is infrastructure! Sure people want to put it in their bank account where the general population can't benefit from it, that's only natural: but money is still social infrastructure! ...to vote for copper internet necessarily dismisses rationale on all levels! You sooking over the nbn?? As I still don't get your point outside you hate money.?

Just ordered a multimeter, wire strippers/cutters, mini gas soldering set to be the basis of my self-teaching electronics projects. And for my first project, adding a work light to my hilux, I also ordered a 2250 lumen row of LEDs, a bunch of wire and a 12v illuminating toggle switch. I've now got all the items for making mead, just need to melt the hole in my container for my airlock, wash everything thoroughly and follow the recipe. Then need to source a siphon. AT, I would be more than happy to help you with your electronics projects. Also try ebay for a siphon www.ebay.com.au/itm/Easy-carboy-Siphon-Syphon-1m-hose-home-brewing-NEW-/280725930365?pt=AU_Barware&hash=item415c91c17dOr your local homebrew store. Back to the electronics, as far as Auto work goes it really pays to do it right, use a relay, use a fuse, use a switch, wire it correctly and when adding relays and fuses try to take advantage of the blank or spare spaces already present, rather than just wiring one in mid way through a circuit and hiding it behind a piece of trim or bolting it somewhere inside the engine bay. Also on top of that gear get some heat shrink tubing too. Vote 2, relay and heatsrink.... Heat srink makes the connections look neat and helps last longer The relay is to spread the load, you don't "need" one if you over killed it with the switch... Good luck, not the first project I would have suggested, a rf bug "kit" is a great start for a noob, (IMHO) and you need to use a solder heat sink (a clip) on the transistor, if you get one together and working it is a great first steep..

Its interesting, some processes were skipped like keeping the blade cool (maybe not required but good practice)
And the bench grinder has a "rest" plate thats designed to put a edge on blades
