We are just recovering from the Vic fires Very interesting prepper experience Apart from the fire preps- which are a way of life in rural Vic- we had to deal with 2 weeks of no power and draconian road closures We had lotsa minor injuries/ burns but no houses lost in our street Our community was fabulous and though I’m the only prepper I know of- everyone came together and we did well My food and medical supplies were well appreciated and my wife has a new respect for Prepper’s

Last minute panic buys are not a good prepper thing. I would do-seeds/ seedlings - bulk stock feed for pigs / chickens / goats / dogs etc till I can get food stocks growing ( we buy ton Buller bags which last months) - batteries( especially rechargeable - fuel( if possible -!likely long queues) Would avoid supermarkets like plague as hordes would have descended

Ok, now that I have 2 shiny new decks of conflicted finally, here is the first challenge for you guys, this is a random pick from the Southern Prepper 1 deck, the latest release.
What are the pros and cons of using modified shipping containers as a survival shelter?
This should be a good one, considering how many times it gets brought up on forums/facebook. Have several shipping containers for storage Pros- seal food and other stores really well -easy to bring in and set up -allow you to build a shed around them Cons-stick out like a sore thumb Screams of something is stored here -can’t be buried - hard to live in without major mods Ie airtight so can’t cook/heat with solid fuel -poor all round visibity/defence unless major mods We are in Victoria so colder climates make outer living more seasonal- know some northerners have different views but more outdoor living

When u have a group of like minded prepper individuals, everyone has there own special interests/ skills they are really good/ passionate about , and the rest of us dabble in Multiple prepper related topics I would love to have a ham licence/ expertise, and if a group member presented that as their area of expertise they would be a valued member I have too many prepper related interests/ hobbies to pick up another one and not do it properly!!

Interesting when you feel your making no/ little progress and then u reevaluate the last year( or a friend remarks on how much you’ve done) Makes u feel better- though still heaps more to do

Pressure canning is easy- don’t get too worried about it Even if you just do fruit and vegies to start, even meat is easy( if it looks Suspicious don’t use it)

Agree with you bce1 100% off grid/ self sufficient would be a full time job Even more if shtf Aim to have the infrastructure:Vegies poultry( inc incubator and breeders) stock( pigs cows inc breeders)fodder crops greeenhouse crops irrigation( solar) off grid power etc etc May be beds of weeds greenhouse unused and fruit trees neglected if life gets too busy- but can ramp up if shtf Can’t run it all while working full time

Bags of salt are certainly in my food stores In desperate times can be dried out and used again Old methods of food preservation would be vital

That's a hard one Especially coming from a caregivers perspective where you spend every day helping people This has been discussed in our meets and our solution was to put ex military/ police on " the front gate" I'm too damn soft and would try to help everyone so they've put me in the rear somewhere😞😞

I think the older you get the more times you've lived thru " the world is going to end on___) the more cynical u get!! When I was a teenager Nostradamus was all the rage To me prepping has common themes((food water shelter defence) and I enjoy all the things associated with it These themes are the same not matter the scenario-bushfire solar flare etc While we can't influence what will happen the preps are the same

Prepping waxes and wanes with other commitments work family etc Having a rest for a while doesn't hurt If you have property I find the burnout less as food growing firewood animals workshop etc make it far more interesting than just buying and storing stuff( and upsetting the wife)

No problems if people can't do the drive for a day, at this stage I wouldn't push longer until we have a general idea of how things went. How does Saturday Oct 21st or 28th, or Nov 4th sound for dates that are more suited to some people here? Oct 28 good

There is a lot to cover for sure In our experience the first meet is a meet and great and people talk about their preps and areas of expertise From this u can work out a programme of teaching and training That's the theory anyway 😜-ours still degenerate into beer good conversation and good company You'll be surprised at the level of skills and expertise u have amongst members

I've always loved they idea of prepper meets/training/education sessions It's great to meet love ke minded people and you'd be amazed at the skill set/training resources you can muster There are so many prepper type sites on the netb(ind Facebook- zert bobaus etc etc it would be great to have some continuity This was raised on some Facebook Australian prepper sites Love to be involved in this token Likewise would be happy to host a similar meet east of Melbourne See how this goes and we'll go from there !

We have had meets here for several years now- getting up to 15-20 people My thoughts are 1 first meets are great informal chats as people swap notes and meet people in person they know from forums 2 show and tell flows from that 3 as meetings get bigger some structure/ format is required as it turns into multiple repeated small conversations rather than an efficient structured learning session Love to come Heaps of notice for rosters work family etc etc would be great
