I think you”ll find they are harvested very quickly in SHTF and become a very limited resource any where near population centres. Humans do a good imitation of locusts when there is limited food available. Research some of the mass migrations due to starvation and you’ll see lots of references to roots, grass and bark and the distances from major migration paths that everything was stripped bare.scary thought.
meat in my freezer now is preferable to hunting with 20,000 other hungry mouths. Or you could live in the semi arid areas and eat meat all day every day without competition. Just buy a few pairs of good boots and get used to walking long distances with heavy loads.

Abc foot and mouth
Looks like they are getting serious with the foot n mouth issue. Bali is now a hotspot in Indo and anyone coming back from there are getting extra biosecurity checks.

Thanks.
Japanese encephalitis has been found in wild pigs in FNQ. There is no getting rid of the disease now.
Indonesia is battling foot n mouth. Lots of nasties on our doorstep.

Good info thanks. a couple more questions. What do you think will happen to small operators or people like yourself? Will you still bee able to produce decent quality and quantity honey without chems? Is getting into bees something new starters should even bother with at the moment?

The bio security order has now been put in place and will last for 6 months. Not only does it prohibit the movement of bees around NSW, but also you cant harvest honey, re queen, split boxes, feed the bees, or carry out any other normal tasks to your bees. Inspections for the mite are allowed, and apparently you can move boxes around on the same property. She who must be obeyed says its a great way to decimate this industry as well. Veroa mite can be controlled, as has been done overseas with Oxcilic acid, but its not easy. Luckily its winter and the bees are not to busy, but, with the wet weather we had, access to the boxes was impossible and hence honey was not removed before winter, so they are pretty well full and come warmer weather, will swarm and spread the problem. Answer to solving this problem ? I don't know. Imagination is our only weapon against reality. How the heck are they going to control mites in wild hives? It is going to be a case of getting used to liveing with varroa. Apparently the increased spread was in transported hives.

I heard they have spread to approx an hours drive to the north and nw. They can destroy production hives bit good luck checking every wild hive between the three locations.
Our area has had a boot load of feral pigs come in. Those little buggers can spread disease pretty well. I might have to increase my wild pork intake! Deer are a couple of years away too, a delectable mixed grill.

Wait.. you man I should spend LESS than I earn?!? Well this is brand new information. His advice in David Copperfield was this: ‘Annual income 20 pounds, annual expenditure 19 [pounds] 19 [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income 20 pounds, annual expenditure 20 pounds ought and six, result misery.’ Gov are spending way more than they receive from taxes, and continuing to expand, there is one outcome misery.. Australians have the highest personal debt in the world, US savings rates are dropping due to inflation. The consumer gig economy is going to implode. tradingeconomics.com/united-states/personal-savingsThey became obsessed with our savings over the past 18 months. It looks like the US was quicker to get their grubby digits onto their citizens had earned. Philip Lowe from the reserve bank could not stop stop talking about how everything will be relatively ok due to Aussies having something like 250 billion in the bank. Like every other pool of money the government manipulates watch those saving evaporate in 6 months.

They have started eradicating hives in the local area. hopefully it’s not too late to prevent it’s spread but my experience says this won’t end well. I feel for those in the firing line and losing hives and income.

Female participation in work was economic reform disguised as woman's rights so is 100% tied to economy, WW2 planted that seed in many companies heads. 75% plus the women in my cohort hate working and raising a family simultaneously but they now h….no option due to economics of house and living prices. Many actually say in semi seriousness they they dislike their kids but really this is a symptom of not being the superwoman that the feminist agenda promised they’d be. They were promised a land cruiser and given a lada.
religion is not an issue in my circle or anyone i know and social acceptability (based on environmental concerns) is negligible. economic factors dominate.

Look at fertility rates down most western and Asian countries. People not getting married, getting married much later then struggling to have children. The world has an aging population with worker shortages. It is not because life is good and people have faith in the future the opposite is true. That’s assuming that it’s cost of living pressures are the reason people aren’t getting married/having kids which is a large assumption As someone who is fecund and actively so🤟 i can assure you it is not a large assumption. Kids are now more planned than a trip to the moon and the result is much lower birthrates.

If it hasn’t popped yet then i don’t think it will. I suspect a vocal minority won’t be happy but most of everyone else will move on.

Wow wee! it looks like varroa mite is now here. Far out how any more dodgy imports can this country afford? Asian bee Indian house crow Covid 19 Monkey pox invasive molluscs from ship ballast Japanese encephalitis. Asian tiger mosquito insert your info here….
We are under constant threat. Go watch that show on ch7 about border security. Our most recent “citizens” don’t give a crap about our primary industries and constantly bring in all sorts of junk . I know of a storey about an old mate who like some grass from the US and introduced it to Au under his belt through quarantine. I guess the term “one planet” is literal.

Caltrops are prohibited weapons in NSW. Nothing in NSW is legal including carrying a pocket knife. Come the end of the world you wont be carrying a pocket knife.. It is a RFS recommendation kit to carry a pocket knife in an emergency situation. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/prepare-your-family/emergency-survival-kitThings don't just deteriorate to Mad Max overnight, plenty of time to do what is required to protect your dwelling, if have some old wire or nails available in TEOTWAWKI/Mad Max Scenario. Just take some nails from inner walls of your house. Or you could prep accordingly. Desperate times desperate measures. The law is the law regardless. Whilst i may agree with the sentiment, are you willing to risk the possible situation of saying “ yes bubba” with you mouth full before actual SHTF?

We just swing the guttering away from the top of the tank. If all the worlds a stage, why don't I ever get any rehearsals ? Yep. And if you forget enjoy the extra nutrients and minerals!

My rainwater tanks are all integrated to shift water from my uphill tanks off my shed to my house tank or vice versa if needed. The only filter is the screen on the inlet. I have pumps on dam, creek and bore for use on gardens, stock and whatever i need it for.
My dam pump is semi automated. I can switch it on from the fusebox and pump for as long as i want. It shuts off due to pressure switch but i still use the circuit breaker just in case.
Lessons learned.
Use the one pipe diameter, mix n match sucks for maintenance and convenience. 1 1/2 inch or 40mm is enough to do what most rural blocks need. Use gravity to your advantage. solar will be your friend there. Try to electrify your water pumps. Electric are reliable. Don’t go too crazy with over engineering your water. it’s wasted money. But definitely buy the best products you can afford. Have a good supply of spares like joiners, pipe, taps, orings, teflon tape, hose clamps etc.
in future i want to document pipe location. i was not provided a plan on sale. I have a lot of water head potential to possibly use as a stored water battery (tank on a hill running to a turbine). I will do the calcs one day to see if worth the effort. an extra kw of constant production for a couple of hours would be good.
