I wasn't accusing obese people of being lazy or incapable, just not interested in longevity of life. Not a trait that a prepper should have. Im not sure that i subscribe to the measurements which determine a person obese, or morbidly obese, or the ever changing science and views regarding having some chub limiting life span either. Of course, being really heavy 'can' cause issues, but i would disagree on all the determinations of such if that makes sense.

Never underestimate an overweight person, whether male or female, its a massive mistake and i can prove this in multiple examples.
Im in my 40's, but i have body building/fitness experience, as well as having worked with huge amounts of overweight people, male and female. I also have hunting experience with pushing the body to sometimes pretty hard extremes in order to take quarry. Once, my legs stopped working and seized. I couldnt move for a time because my body couldnt take it anymore. I later invested in a PLB because where i go and the things i did, to be honest were extremely dangerous and i would quite possibly never be found if i had an accident.
Enough of me, i say this as a flash credential for also having been overweight myself, as well as getting around in all these events with very overweight people.
I will never ever look at someone even with their guts hanging over their belt and hanging down through their t shirt. I have seen explosive power, incredible weight lifting strength, whether weights or animals, or steel beams used to raise houses by people obese.
I have hiked with these, cut wood with these, know of folk who can swing massive chainsaws all day everyday for 10-12 hours who are overweight. Once, an overweight lady, hand split a massive load of firewood, i could not believe it, the job would have broken most men.
Ive seen them reign in stock, and horses, pick up animals and slam their to the ground.
As for fitness, i know of a number of women that would have lean and or muscly lean mean puking their guts out in the corner and begging for mercy, and although it is difficult to watch these women wear lycra and wonder what on earth they are thinking, massive respect when you see the work ethic and stamina.
My point, i have learned not to judge, because early years taught me fat doesnt mean lazy, weak, lack of stamina or strength, and much more.

Has anyone considered the birds that frequent their yard for immediate food in a societal collapse?

...I have a friend who lives 10 minutes from me, her yard is invaded by up to 10 wild deer on a regular basis... Easier to just go to the shop. I'm guessing venison is a lot cheaper over east than here in Perth... I'd certainly put in a day's work for a whole deer or ten. Me too! I would be all over that like a fat kid on cupcake!

I used to shoot when I was in my late teens, but only targets. Also did some fishing and marroning around that time, but never got much practice at it. Done a bit of foraging for wild veg / slash edible weeds, however, again don't know much about either. Have lately been seeing people doing a lot of fishing in local waterways, and being pretty successful in a short amount of time just by putting a net the whole way across the mouths of local streams. Then again, while they were able to catch a meal or two in a half hour, I don't know that I'd particularly want to be eating fish caught in the filthy stinking canals these people like fishing in. Well said. This is something that a lot of people don't realize, even in the burbs and yet can yield a lot of food, rough waterways, drain areas in certain spots etc. Best to get your experience now, even if you are putting the fish, yabbies or eels back whilst you have food. It's the practice people need NOW! To deal with concerns of eating something from bad water, put it in a bath or large bucket of good water for a day or two whilst still alive, this will clean the animal out and ready it for eating. I have eaten various things from worrying water straight however, carp etc, no issues, its all in the preparation.

Yes agreed, but it might be the way its prepared too. Pink salmon cans are the bomb, i throw the whole can less the water with the bones and all into a blender and mince the lot. Add some sweet mayo, salt and cracked pepper and your away for a patte that goes really well on toast. ... or coat the patties in panko breadcrumbs and shallow-fry. Amazing. YUM!

Just wondering how many folk on here hunt/fish/trap and harvest their meat on a regular basis if not always?
The reason for my question here is to ascertain how many preppers either raise and harvest their own meat, or fish, hunt, or trap and harvest their own meats to help me understand what type of pressure on game and wildlife might be out their in a food shortage situation.
Is there anyone who has put themselves out there and provided meat for a time from hunting or fishing for a large family or their group?

Heck, I could write a list of the tuna varieties I have... An interesting note: just last night I tried some canned Red Salmon - which is considerably more expensive than pink salmon. I was seriously unimpressed, so I won't be adding any more of that to the pantry. Yes agreed, but it might be the way its prepared too. Pink salmon cans are the bomb, i throw the whole can less the water with the bones and all into a blender and mince the lot. To those who are limiting a vpn to 'tracking' only, there are a whole other bunch of reasons why you should run a vpn other than this. Its important to do some research on just how much they do and why its important to run one.

After my brother's house was broken into a couple of times, he applied to the local council for a large fence around the property. Of course, they disallowed it, on basis of a fence blocking visual access to the connecting road and therefore liable to cause an accident for drivers. The fact that there are now several large trees already blocking the view and that his neighbour over the road already has a 2 metre fence blocking view on that side didn't sway them. After months of backwards and forwards with the council and heaps of hassle, he was finally told by a sympathetic worker that the council cannot stop you growing high bushes on their side of the fence, as long as their not deemed to be a hedge. The result - several types of thorny and prickly bushes all the way around the waist-high picket fence, forming a pretty much impenetrable barrier to within about a metre into the property. This is accompanied by a 2 meter high gate across the driveway (which is allowed as its technically not a fence), with the permissible "scray" pointed tips. Oh, and a new alarm that sets off a recording of blood curdling dog barking whenever anyone gets within about a foot of their fence. Not quite as good as a barbed wire topped wall, but the council allows it and no more break-ins since it was all installed / planted last year. Nice! Nothing like a real dog that will bark and tangle though.

They can only get data right based on what folk do or dont tell them. And with the last 'mandatory' be fined $180 every day you dont tell us, rot that they pulled, good luck getting the facts. I would stick with a possibly 'indication'.

I taught my children what was, in my opinion, morally right and wrong. The law was irrelevant. You always did what was morally right, even if it was against the law. For example, if someone invades your home and attacks your family, you use lethal force until they are no longer a threat. What the law or police say is irrelevant. The police can be as much your enemy as your friend. I agree. And there is a lot more to this subject than a simple respect. I have a reasonable amount of experience in this field as well as education. The Police are bound by a system which has many broken procedures which call 'good' as 'evil' and 'evil' as 'good', Frost has brought up one such. Along with this, it is not possible to obey all the laws of the land as there are simply too many, and many which take away and or restrict human rights. Citizens have no clue when they are breaking many laws, so it is not possible to be a law keeper 100% as you will fail. Along with this, the issue of 'over-criminalisation'. That being put upon 'civil' matters is absurd. You can be seen as a criminal if your dog isnt registered, or you put in a water tank without a permit or you dig a hole in the ground for a pond, or you clear an area of a local plant which is protected, or you burn an old log which 'might' have been habitat for a lizard, or you type something on this site which is just freedom of expression and discussion of a matter to look into it and consider it, et cetera et cetera. Our system works by votes, not necessarily citizens votes. Of course they vote in their respective person who then has to shake hands with everyone else who might be a nutcase, take the Greens for instance. If they get their way, youll get fined for not walking your dog everyday in the Gold Coast! So the Bean counter you voted for wants to push his Bill (Law) through parliment to have it accepted, but the Bean counter from the Greens holds the vote to stop it unless your Bean counter lets his 'Dog Fine' Law go through, and your Bean counter does it, and thus we are now deemed as 'criminals' if we dont walk the dog. The Police are those who are to be the 'enforcers' of Laws, they are not be here nor their of them by the letter of the Law. I personally refuse the allegation that i am 'evil' or a 'criminal' if i fail to walk my dog, what about you? So should the police be respected, yes of course, but more importantly, it is important to be educated as to who and what their Boss is, in order to understand the office we are to respect and fear rightly, from the aspect of the office that binds them to do nasty things to good people just trying to live clean and right. I feel very sorry for Police Officers today as a result of the system they must serve under, and of which forces them contrary to their conscience and better judgment in many cases, i am aware their are many good officers out there, as well as many calloused. My children are taught to respect Authority, but to understand the balance of a broken system they serve under.

I've never heard of a vpn, but I'm watching this thread as it sounds like something I should know about. But I need a step back from all the info from token and joey. What actually is it? Is it a way to access internet instead of Optus/Telstra/etc? Or is it something you have as well as those? You need one! You shouldnt be using the internet without one! Virtual Primary Network (VPN). It is software that you put on your computer and connect to before opening your web browser to surf (go online and try a free one like Tunnel Bear, that will give you the idea). Your internet service provider by law now must keep all of your metadata. In a recent study of meta data, a whole bunch of folk were given a random persons metadata, and they were able to find out who they were and their habits, locations and much more almost always and with frighteningly good results, their mothers house, how many kids they have, where they work, where they have coffee, who they bank with etc. When you go through a good VPN you become anonymous (theres a lot more that can give you up, but this is just the entry level). You are using the IP address that the VPN server assigns to you, from there any sight you hit records the IP address of the VPN server, not yours. Would you believe Canada put it out there to make them illegal lol. Thats how much Gov's hate them, as they want to watch you without warrant to do so. If you go to China, how will you get around the Governments inet censoring (the Great internet wall), you do so with a VPN.
